2011 Log

This is how I keep my self on track towards meeting my daily/monthly activity goals.

I was successful in 2009 in exceeding my goals. In 2010 I greatly exceeding my original goals. I want to keep to that level and need new goals to help me stay there. I do not think I can realistically keep beating my goals like the year I had in 2010 but I will stay active and I have a plan of differing levels of goals for this year.

My basic goal is to reach 2,011 miles in 2011. But I will also set some tougher goals as well. That means if I meet my acceptable goal for walking I will need to add in 500+ miles on the bike as well.

For my acceptable goal I will keep to the 1,500 miles walking for 2011. That is a good steady 10,000 steps per day that seems to be popular now. I know I can reach that level most days. One problem I have always had is falling short of a goal and then exceeding the next month. I want to try to meet my goals each month this year in addition to the overall yearly goal.

I will add to my basic goal of 1,500 walking miles the idea of 1,000 miles on the bike. I know I can do this if I push just a little bit harder and ride in the wet or cold.

To further push myself I will put a high goal of 1,200 miles on the bike. This would force an average of 100 miles a month. It seems crazy but it only entails riding to work 10 days a month or less if I take the scenic route. Plus I renewed our Florida State Parks pass for the year so I have those trails to explore as well.

So:

  • Acceptable Goal: 2,011 combined miles
  • Realistic Goal: 2,500 combined miles
  • High Goal: 2,700 combined miles

As always I will post to keep my self honest and see just how I do through the year.
