3rd Watch – Levi, Lirtimya and Temperance
Rothuss Carder: squats down next to their bunks.
Rothuss Carder: Ladies, time to wake up.
Rothuss Carder: taps them on their shoulders.
Temperance: rubs her eyes and stretches.
Temperance: 'm up, I'm up.
Lirtimya: Sits up, and prepares for the final shift
Temperance: blinks at Rothuss' face.
Temperance: What happened to you?
Lirtimya: Trying a new look out?
Rothuss Carder: Apparently I'm practicing for a new role in the group - if you run out of paper, I'm your replacement.
Rothuss Carder: grins
Lirtimya: I'll keep that in mind
Temperance: muffles a laugh.
Temperance: I'm glad you're at least positive about it.
Rothuss Carder: Fun is fun, and payback is even more fun.
Levi Reed: go away
Temperance: Good luck with that.
Temperance: shakes her head and climbs above board.
Rothuss Carder: cracks his knuckles.
Rothuss Carder: Oh, definitely.
Rothuss Carder: rolls into an empty bunk.
Lirtimya: Makes her way to the helm of the ship
Levi Reed: begrudgingly makes his way to the deck or whatever
Lirtimya tries to check the ship’s navigation, but really only gets a good grasp on the weather in the area.
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Navigation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 14) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 18]
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 16) [FAILURE by 1] [d20 = 17]
Temperance: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 16]
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Weather Sense [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 9] [d20 = 4]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Alertness [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 3] [d20 = 12]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Direction Sense [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 2] [d20 = 13]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Distance Sense [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 11] [d20 = 3]
Temperance: does not notice much in the dark.
Lirtimya: Has lost where they are, and can't seem to figure out where they got to
Levi Reed: Pretty sure we're on the right track, just keep going
Lirtimya: I'll just keep us going in this direction, or if you both feels it's a better idea we could drop anchor instead
Temperance: Might as well keep going? I think Vee was on watch before ours. She might've steered us in the right direction. I hope.
Levi Reed: Heck no, we're not dropping anchor. Vee will murder us if we stop for no reason
Temperance: walks and sees if the anchor is still dropped.
Temperance: I... stand corrected? Might as well keep going, right? I'm not too sure about whether this thing is anchored, though.
Temperance: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 7] [d20 = 6]
The seas seem to be calm and safe
Levi Reed: Just keep sailing just keep sailing
Lirtimya: If it's anchored I say we keep it anchored, the ship might've gotten turned around while sitting still
Levi Reed: Well, you're the first mate for a reason, I'll defer to you
Levi Reed: And blame you if Vee gets cranky about it
Temperance: nods in understanding.
Temperance: I'm sure Vee will understand.
Lirtimya: Better to stay still than get farther away
Temperance: She might have temper, but she knows her ships.
Temperance: The waters are appearing calm, at least.
Levi Reed: She does, and so does Lirt. So she might also be like 'why'd you keep us anchored, you dumdums? It was perfect sailing weather!'
Temperance: Hm... flip a coin, then?
Levi Reed: I'm going with whatever Lirt wants, she's the navigator
Levi Reed: But I'm not taking any blame for a wrong choice, either!
Temperance: We'll try our best to keep you out of shanking range.
Temperance: grins lightly.
Lirtimya: This much wind may not be able to move us far anyways, so whichever we end up doing we probably won't get far
Lirtimya: Do either of you have a coin?
Temperance: rummages in her bag for one.
Temperance: Perhaps...?
Temperance: finds a coin in her bag and flips it up in the air.
Lirtimya: Heads keep going, tails we keep the anchor down
Temperance: Well, that's heads.
Lirtimya: Let's raise the anchor then
Temperance: glances down at the coin in her palm.
Levi Reed: Why are you second guessing yourself, Lirt?
Temperance: I'm pretty sure it was this lever to pull the anchor...
Temperance: tugs on the lever.
CLANK CLANK CLANK as the chains and ropes go splash
Levi Reed: slowly backs away and keeps watch in the other direction
Lirtimya: Tries to keep them going on a straight path, which probably isn't hard with such weak winds
Levi Reed: So. How'd you sleep?
With the anchor now raised, the group on watch takes another look around.
Temperance: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 7] [d20 = 6]
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 16) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 19]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Alertness [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 18]
Temp sees that creeping up onto the side of the boat
Temperance: What kind of sea creature- We've got company!
Temperance: calls over to the others.
Levi Reed: heads over to see
Levi Reed: What is it?
Lirtimya: Looks over the edge to see
Temperance: Don't get too close, it looks rather large-
You see that crawling UP over the railing
Temperance: backs away a couple steps to get her bearings.
Temperance: It appears to be some sort of crocodile.
Levi Reed: Good eating on those!
Lirtimya: If we can kill it, I'll make sure to cook you some
Temperance: It's got some rough skin, hopefully it won't take long to pierce through that.
Levi Reed: Machetes should be able to handle that
[ROUND 1]
Levi Reed tries to attack Strange Crocodile 2 with his machete but misses.
Levi Reed: Er... maybe not
Temperance shoots an arrow with her Shortbow at Strange Crocodile 2 but misses.
Temperance: No shortbows either, huh.
Lirtimya: watches for now, seeing if the other two can handle it, or if it needs magic like the elemental, or can't be damaged like those other things
Strange Crocodile 2 tries to bite and swipe Levi with its tail but misses.
[ROUND 2]
Levi Reed tries to attack Strange Crocodile 2 with his machete but misses.
Levi Reed: This... uh... might be a problem
Levi Reed: Anyone got anything we can try to feed it?
and Levi sees that on the other side now too
Lirtimya: I'll run down and wake people up, another one just boarded!
Temperance: Maybe they're just hungry, like the shark?
Temperance: searches for some fish onboard or in her pouch.
Temperance shoots an arrow with her Shortbow at Strange Crocodile 2 but misses.
Temperance: A little help over here? There's some massive crocodiles on board!
Temperance: yells as loud as she can.
Lirtimya: Rushes under the deck and shout to start waking people up
Levi Reed: Ugh, Vee is going to decimate me for not being able to handle a couple of crocodiles
Temperance: runs through her spells to see if she can cast anything.
Lirtimya: We have been boarded by a couple crocodiles, and we haven't been able to crack through their armor
Temperance: Just put the blame on me, I don't mind.
Vee, Zora and Rothuss wake up from their slumber at the crocodile warning.
Strange Crocodile 2 swipes at Levi, hitting him.
Levi begins to think about crocodiles.
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Alertness [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 13] [d20 = 2]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Ranger Tracking [2] [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 1] [d20 = 14]
The crocodiles are moving very slowly
Temp and Levi are up on the deck fighting them off
Lirt came down to wake everyone
BUT that meant that the one moved forward and is now blocking the doors to the hold
a big heavy slow object is laying on top of the hatch to get to the deck
Temperance thinks about what she is seeing with these strange crocodiles.
Temperance: [CHECK] Wisdom (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 2] [d20 = 14]
Temperance: Those crocodiles are moving very slowly. They appear to be undead, Levi!
Temperance: runs a hand through her hair and mumbles something about 'what is with these ghosts and undead these days...'
[ROUND 3]
Rothuss Carder: hops up the ladder and shoves the point of his main-gauche through a hole in the slats, aiming for a weak spot at a joint, like elbow or shoulder.
Rothuss Carder tries to stab Strange Crocodile 1 through the grate in the hatch with his Main-gauche but misses.
Inv Zora Polasis: goes to the other side of Rothuss and tries to stab the crocodile
Inv Zora Polasis tries to stab Strange Crocodile 1 through the grate in the hatch with her rapier but misses.
Inv Zora Polasis: Maybe if we both pushed on the hatch we could push the crocodile away?
Levi Reed attacks Strange Crocodile 1 with his machete lightly wounding it.
Temperance summons the power of her god and turns the zombie crocodiles, causing them to flee the boat. The group is now safe once again.
The weight over the hatch suddenly dissipates
and the three below come up top
Rothuss Carder: What the heck were those?
Levi Reed: They just... left?
Vee Barlett: Why'd y'all wake me up??
Levi Reed: There were crocodiles...
Vee Barlett: Out this far?
Temperance: There were two undead crocodiles above board, of massive size. I'm not really sure what happened to make them go away so suddenly.
Lirtimya: They were undead? More undead?
Vee Barlett: How ya not know? Didn't I hear ya yell somethin'?
Vee Barlett: Hmm, ya think Firebeard got crocs? That's a cool animal companion in retrospect...
Lirtimya: Undead crocs for an undead pirate
Rothuss Carder: Hmm... does garlic work against undead?
Temperance: I did try willing them away by turning them. I don't have a lot of experience with the undead, so...
Vee Barlett: Huh, well good job, I guess?
Rothuss contemplates the concept of undead crocodiles using his knowledge of local history.
Rothuss Carder: [SKILL] Local History [MOD:CHA] (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 11] [d20 = 5]
Rothuss has never heard of undead crocodiles
It is always humans turned into ... but he did encounter those goblins that the Chupacabra turned
Rothuss Carder: Well, garlic supposedly works against vampires, but I haven't heard of it working against zombies.
Rothuss Carder: I mean, it can't hurt though, right?
Vee Barlett: It can if ya can't do nothin' with it and get yer arm bitten off.
Temperance: Apologies for calling all of you up in the middle of your sleep.
Rothuss Carder: We'll have to get some garlic and see if it keeps the undead crocs away.
Temperance: smiles lightly.
Rothuss Carder: It may do nothing, or it may do everything!
Inv Zora Polasis: I'm just glad you got rid of them
Levi Reed: Wasn't my choice to wake you, for the record. Pretty sure the machetes could've handled some crocs
Levi Reed: Levi lies
Vee Barlett: And did they?
Temperance: Put it on the grocery list. At least we'll be able to use it for cooking.
Inv Zora Polasis: Think I'll go back down to sleep. I did pull a double watch
Inv Zora Polasis: goes below to try to sleep
Vee Barlett: Yar get some rest. We'll be in Mizzen soon enough.
Levi Reed: They were getting there
Temperance: I'll owe up to try and waking you. I got a bit nervous when another one showed up, and my arrows weren't hitting. As usual.
Vee Barlett: Uh huh.
Temperance: laughs lightly.
Since she is awake, Vee tries to see how the boat is doing.
Vee Barlett: [SKILL] Navigation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 10) [FAILURE by 6] [d20 = 16]
Temperance: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 5] [d20 = 18]
Vee Barlett: It's fine, but I'm not sure where we is so supposin' I'll take a nap, too.
Lirtimya: I'm sorry for waking you all up, it didn't look like we were making any progress
Vee Barlett: Lirt got this. Wake me when the sun more fully up.
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Navigation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 1] [d20 = 13]
Temperance: nods in understanding.
Temperance: Go and get your sleep.
Rothuss Carder: Back to the bunks!
Vee Barlett: salutes and heads back to sleep
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 10] [d20 = 6]
Temperance: Thanks for coming to try and help.
Rothuss Carder: jumps down the ladder.
Temperance: shakes her head at Rothuss' antics. Lirtimya resumes successfully navigating the boat. Levi stays alert and the three on watch begin to discuss the events during the watch.
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Alertness [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 12] [d20 = 3]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Direction Sense [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 19]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Distance Sense [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 3] [d20 = 11]
Temperance: Lots of encounters with ghosts and undead recently.
Lirtimya: I think we need to start off willing undead to go away at this point there's so many
Lirtimya: Chuckles
Temperance: laughs lightly.
Temperance: Well, at least it worked this time. I've never actually tried it so I wasn't sure if it would be effective.
Temperance: I wonder if the quarterstaff I have works with channeling this willing the undead away thing I've got going on...
Lirtimya: I'm very glad it worked, they would not have been fun to fight them
Levi Reed: How did you know they were undead?
Temperance: They were moving unusually slowly even for crocodiles of that size.
Temperance: I guess you could say it was a bit of hunch too.
Levi Reed: That's it? Hell, you should've thought Jericho was undead
Lirtimya: Laughs
Temperance: Jericho isn't physically slow, from what I remember...?
Temperance: hesitates a bit at the end, a bit unsure.
The time is 8:30 AM
The date is Pen____de, 6th Sin (Late Summer), 587 SGR
Young Moon's phase is Waning Gibbous
Old Moon's phase is Waning Gibbous
It is morning
Lirtimya checks her navigation as the group wakes.
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Navigation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 1] [d20 = 13]
The group is two hours off the coast
Vee Barlett: yawns and walks back up on deck
Vee Barlett: [SKILL] Land Scent (Mizzen) [PERCENT:Land Scent (Mizzen)] (vs. Target 50) [FAILURE by 30] [d100 = 80]
Vee Barlett: sniffles from morning allergies
Vee Barlett: Someone otta dust this boat better...
Rothuss Carder: snores
Vee Barlett: Smells like fish and dust.
Vee Barlett: sneezes
Temperance: There's dust on the boat? I would've expected it to be washed off with all the creatures splashing up seawater...
Rothuss Carder: Nah, I bet she's just allergic to land
Vee Barlett: Yar, that's more likely.
Rothuss Carder: does his morning stretches.
Temperance: laughs lightly and nods in understanding.
So at 10 am the group arrive at the port rather than what they expected to be 8
Vee Barlett: Alright, maybe we go clean up then find the Duke?
Levi Reed: Hey, we made it!
Vee Barlett: Boat slow, but yeah.
Levi Reed: Yeah, fishing boats don't go fast, it'd scare all the fish away
Rothuss Carder: So.... I wonder if an undead croc's guts are in the same place as a live croc's...?
Inv Zora Polasis: Why wouldn't they be?
Temperance: They appeared to look similar in physical appearance.
Temperance: I'm not sure about their innards.
Rothuss Carder: Maybe you have to move or take them to make it undead?
Rothuss Carder: It's some sort of ritual, isn't it? Rituals get weird.
Vee Barlett: They probably rotten like them goblins.
Vee Barlett: Remember them?
Rothuss Carder: Not really...
Vee Barlett: Not surprised.
Levi Reed: I remember the goblins
Inv Zora Polasis: So you have dealt with zombies before?
Temperance: Zombie goblins?
Levi Reed: Yep
Rothuss Carder: Yes! Of course! ... maybe...
Levi Reed: Didn't know chupacabras could change things into undead, but that's clearly what's going on
Levi Reed: Got a far reach, too
Vee Barlett: Yar, at a cave near Achild.
Inv Zora Polasis: Good you have had the experience
Vee Barlett: Found a weird horn near it. I meant to get it looked at.
Temperance: Chupacabras can turn things into undead? Interesting.
Vee Barlett: The chupacabra has a suspiciously manly boot print.
Levi Reed: It probably ate whatever made the boot print
Rothuss Carder: Maybe it goes to the Chupa Cobbler's?
Vee Barlett: rolls eyes
Vee Barlett: Anyways, we need to clean up.
Vee Barlett: Think that church here will let us?
Inv Zora Polasis: Temperance, did you feel your god's power moving through your arm like lightning? Priest Kelpper used to say that when he described his adventures banishing undead
Temperance: I... perhaps? I'm not too sure. It was spontaneous and in the heat of the moment, so... I didn't have a lot of time to register.
Inv Zora Polasis: But then you couldn't get through a meal without Priest Kelpper describing some story of his
Vee Barlett: Kelpper? Did he... gather kelp in his previous life?
Levi Reed: Tempe is the only person I've ever known who doesn't exaggerate anything
Temperance: I did feel some tingling, like I usually do when I cast. I'll see if I can remember the sensation a bit better if I try it again.
Inv Zora Polasis: I always wondered what that seaweed connection was
Levi Reed: Big Seaweed
Levi Reed: Gotta watch out for those guys
Vee Barlett: What?
Inv Zora Polasis: He'd always stand up in the middle of dinner and point across the room like he was turning the dessert tray. But it was a vivid picture. I wish I could have seen you really do it
Vee Barlett: Well we keep runnin' into undead so ya might get to see it again, 'specially if Firebeard really is undead.
Inv Zora Polasis: That would be exciting
So landing at the docks and....
Temperance: If the Church is alright with letting us freshen up, then maybe they'll have some material about the undead that I can review.
Vee Barlett: Either them or the Bard College but then we gotta pay entrance fee...
Levi Reed: I would LOVE to visit the temple here
Vee Barlett: Let's stop by the church, see if we can clean up since we doin' churchy stuff, then go try to get an audience with the Duke?
Temperance: Fine by me. I want to see what makes this Church of Mizzen so interesting. Levi seems excited about it.
So the group goes into town and heads over to the church
Marianne Proske: Welcome friends,
Rothuss Carder: waves and looks around.
Temperance: Hello.
Temperance: bows her head in greeting.
Vee Barlett: lets the churchy people take lead
Temperance: My name is Temperance. I've heard some of my friends have visited here before?
Marianne Proske: I am glad for that
Marianne Proske: Everyone should be welcome
Levi Reed: You got a donation box nearby?
Marianne Proske: Certainly we are happy to take what you feel you can spare
Temperance: We would appreciate if we could stay a bit to freshen ourselves up. We've had... quite a journey.
Levi Reed: hands over a silver
Inv Zora Polasis: And a meeting with the Duke later
Marianne Proske: We are here for everyone, and especially those who serve the church
Marianne Proske: That is very nice, are you meeting with him for good or for a problem?
Inv Zora Polasis: Apparently he has a problem and we were sent for
Temperance: It seems that he requires a bit of our assistance.
Rothuss Carder: He has the problem, we're his good. I hope.
Marianne Proske: Then you must be very important people
Marianne Proske: Do you like being important?
Vee Barlett: We like bein' clean.
Inv Zora Polasis: laughs
Marianne Proske: laughs happily
Rothuss Carder: She's not important, she's invisible.
Levi Reed: Nah, we're not important, just helping out the church
Temperance: chuckles lightly.
Temperance: We simply assist when we can. That is all.
Inv Zora Polasis: What are your thoughts on the Duke? If I may ask
Marianne Proske: There are bowls and basins in the back you can use, and sand to scrub your self clean
Marianne Proske: The Duke is a nice man, he tries to remember that not everyone has the same privilege he does, his son has not quite learned that yet
Levi Reed: I heard his son is kind of a jerk, yeah
Marianne Proske: The youth need to learn
Vee Barlett: How receptive is he to visitors? Can we just... go right up there and tell him we're here to talk to him?
Rothuss Carder: Thanks, I'll go take advantage of those. I scribbled on myself in my sleep again.
Rothuss Carder: heads to the back.
Marianne Proske: You said he was expecting you, so I would think that he would welcome you
Vee Barlett: Bad habit, but them scribbles look nice!
Vee Barlett: nods
Inv Zora Polasis: You know of our arrival? But of course you do
Vee Barlett: Good. Hope it go smoothly then. I'm gonna go clean up, too, while you all talk churchy stuff.
Inv Zora Polasis: And of the Admiral?
Marianne Proske: I always pray in the morning to ask if there will be anything I should prepare to help people with today
Marianne Proske: and today I felt the need for bathing and flowers
Inv Zora Polasis: smiles
Marianne Proske: So I took a nice scrubbing session on the beach
Marianne Proske: and I have these flowers
Marianne Proske: she hands a bunch to Zora
Inv Zora Polasis: They are beautiful. Thank you
Marianne Proske: What about the Admiral? I have not noticed him around lately but he is a busy person
Levi Reed: goes to wash up with the others
Inv Zora Polasis: I am not sure of all the details, but it is said he has been kidnapped
Marianne Proske: SHOCKED
Marianne Proske: What?
Marianne Proske: How could that be?
Temperance: Do you happen to know when you saw the Admiral last, by chance?
Marianne Proske: I would have to think, but he does not come here very often at all, he has his own priest for his fleet
Temperance: Ah, I see. We would appreciate whatever details we can get.
Inv Zora Polasis: There are rumors but they seem to silly too mention
Marianne Proske: If you do visit the Duke then ask for Jereth of the Fourth Circle, master of the winds
Marianne Proske: He would be able to tell you about the Admiral
Temperance: Jereth of the Fourth Circle, Master of the Winds. Thank you.
Inv Zora Polasis: nods in thanks as well
Inv Zora Polasis: He would be useful on a ship
Temperance: Do you have any additional questions Zora? Shall we follow the others as well?
Inv Zora Polasis: I suppose we should get clean before anything else
Inv Zora Polasis: We shall be back soon. Thank you for your kindness Marianne
Marianne Proske: I am glad to help
So taking some time to clean up then start towards the Duke's residence
Vee Barlett: Alright that presentable enough, I supposin'
Vee Barlett: Let's get this over with.
Inv Zora Polasis: washes and re-does her hair putting one of the flowers in her hair
Levi Reed: Disappointing Roth. That was a good look on you
The group leaves the church, heads down the street towards the market square.......
Levi Reed: Would've given the Duke a nice first impression
Vee Barlett: An impression of some sort for sure.
Ruffus DeOrange: My lovely violent Vee I am SO glad to see you
Vee Barlett: Fuck.
Ruffus DeOrange: Not here
Ruffus DeOrange: Later perhaps
Vee Barlett: You'd run away again.
Ruffus DeOrange: You will just have to exhaust me next time
Temperance: blinks at this new person.
Ruffus DeOrange: So that I cannot
Vee Barlett: Maybe just be upfront that ya ain't last long in bed next time, yeah?
Ruffus DeOrange: But I am very glad to see you now here with everyone
Vee Barlett: Why's that?
Ruffus DeOrange: I need your help
Vee Barlett: Why would I?
Rothuss Carder: Is this that guy? The whosit guy?
Inv Zora Polasis: Who is this?
Vee Barlett: Reason I sharpened my knives.
Vee Barlett: to Zora
Lirtimya: Do we really need to help him? or can we become the second, more imminent problem?
Ruffus DeOrange: I need you to prove that I am not the Dread Pirate Firebeard
Vee Barlett: barks a laugh
Temperance: Why would you need to prove that?
Temperance: You're not the Dread Pirate Firebeard?
Ruffus DeOrange: No I am not
Ruffus DeOrange: THANK YOU!
Ruffus DeOrange: Someone believes
Vee Barlett: Of course you ain't! You not even good at pretendin' to be a pirate!
Rothuss Carder: checks the ground under his feet.
Rothuss Carder: No glowing green boot prints.
Inv Zora Polasis: looks critically at Ruffus
Vee Barlett: looks to see if he has a beard instead of a goatee
No beard, goatee, facial hair, etc.
Temperance: You just didn't seem like much of a pirate, so...
Ruffus DeOrange: See you have smart people Violent Vee
Vee Barlett: Violet.
Ruffus DeOrange: Violent Violet
Vee Barlett: You ain't earned callin' me Vee.
Ruffus DeOrange: Should we call you VeeVee for short?
Vee Barlett: Gag.
Levi Reed: rolls eyes
Ruffus DeOrange: No that is later on, again, you need to learn to wait
Vee Barlett: I didn't specify who was bein' gagged.
Vee Barlett: You get shived, not gagged.
Temperance: So who are you, man who is terrible at being a pirate?
Ruffus DeOrange: I am Ruffus DeOrange
Ruffus DeOrange: I am the ... I am My Own Person
Ruffus DeOrange: and I am NOT a dead pirate
Ruffus DeOrange: However
Lirtimya: Pinches the bridge of her nose
Vee Barlett: Just a spoiled man who pretends he's a gentleman.
Ruffus DeOrange: Some people have been speculating that
Vee Barlett: 'Cause they ain't just think that for no reason. So what reason?
Temperance: [SKILL] Bureaucracy (2) [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 11] [d20 = 2]
Temperance knows this is a (rumored) spoiled brat of a child of a nobleman in Osterhold (where your Temple is) who is known for causing problems
Temperance: looks more and more dead inside as the conversation continues.
Ruffus DeOrange: I was impetuous in my youth
Vee Barlett: rolls eyes
Vee Barlett: Shocker
Rothuss Carder: sidles up next to Zora.
Rothuss Carder whispers to Inv Zora Polasis: Well, Investigator. What can you tell about him?
Inv Zora Polasis whispers to Rothuss Carder: I know I don't like him.
Rothuss Carder: nods.
Inv Zora Polasis whispers to Rothuss Carder: If he was impersonating Firebeard I don't think he would be pleading for people to help him prove it
Ruffus DeOrange: I would like to help you with the Duke
Ruffus DeOrange: To prove that I am not a dead pirate
Vee Barlett: Give me a reason. I got a grudge with you.
Vee Barlett: You ain't A pirate.
Ruffus DeOrange: Exactly
Ruffus DeOrange: See you understand me
Vee Barlett: And if you gonna die, it gonna be by my hands.
Temperance: Rumors from Osterhold say that you're known to cause a ruckus, and we have enough of those.
Ruffus DeOrange: SO you can help me
Vee Barlett: But you ain't give me a reason yet.
Inv Zora Polasis: Maybe if he was dead we could really tell. Hard to tell with all that talking
Vee Barlett: Rum a good start. An apology. Pearl? Diamonds are great, too.
Ruffus DeOrange: If I travel with you to go find who ever IS the Dead Dread Pirate Firebeard then you will have lots of chances to ....
Vee Barlett: At least that goatee gone.
Vee Barlett: Nah. That what YOU want.
Ruffus DeOrange: What I want is to not be told that I am a pirate
Rothuss Carder: sniffs the air for any scent of brimstone.
Vee Barlett: You gotta earn my bed now.
Ruffus DeOrange: Gladly
Vee Barlett: First round of drinks are on you.
Vee Barlett: And I'm goin' top shelf.
Ruffus DeOrange: If you remember I did give you rum and.....
Vee Barlett: And left me naked and tied to a bed.
Vee Barlett: Ain't a good look.
Ruffus DeOrange: OH I would disagree
Vee Barlett: More serial killer vibes there.
Temperance: continues to look more and more deadpan at the topic of conversation.
Vee Barlett: So why the Duke Son not vouch for you? Ain't ya buddies with him?
Ruffus DeOrange: Ahhh he is .... missing? not here?
Vee Barlett: He can't sail worth shit. Probably can't pay someone to sail him outta here after he crashed his way to here.
Vee Barlett: pinches bridge of nose
Vee Barlett: Why ain't it ever simple?
Inv Zora Polasis: How did you even know Violet would be here? Popping out of nowhere at her
Ruffus DeOrange: I have been waiting ever since I told the Duke to send to the Church of the Orange Sunsets for help, I knew they would go to Vee to get help,
Vee Barlett: Ah fuck you? What?
Inv Zora Polasis: You were the one that sent for us?
Inv Zora Polasis: sighs
Ruffus DeOrange: I did NOT send for you
Ruffus DeOrange: I only told the Duke where to send for help
Vee Barlett: That conniving there. Didn't know you had it in you... wait, no, that's on par.
Ruffus DeOrange: BOWS
Vee Barlett: You don't seem the type to let things go. BUT
Vee Barlett: If we help ya, because it aligns with what we already doin' then you behave or I'm gonna shank ya, got it?
Ruffus DeOrange: Thinks
Temperance: I would encourage you to think faster.
Vee Barlett: And I'm getting top shelf liquor after all this. On you.
Ruffus DeOrange: If I come with you to solve it then that makes it easier to solve it and to shank me
Inv Zora Polasis: We're not bringing him to visit the Duke!
Inv Zora Polasis: We aren't, are we?
Vee Barlett: This dumbshit has an in with the Duke so not a bad thing for him to come along.
Vee Barlett: Bad for me and my patience, but not for our goal.
Inv Zora Polasis: It would make us seem ... associated with him
Inv Zora Polasis: We already have an invitation to see him
Inv Zora Polasis: the Duke
Ruffus DeOrange: Yes
Ruffus DeOrange: He sent the key right?
Vee Barlett: I can shank ya here or there, ain't no worries there.
Vee Barlett: What key?
Temperance: raises an eyebrow.
Inv Zora Polasis: there is no key for you
Vee Barlett: playing dumb
Ruffus DeOrange: I told him that he needed to prove it was an official request so he should send his Ducal Key
Vee Barlett: Why he listen to you?
Vee Barlett: And ya still ain't told me why you a suspect.
Ruffus DeOrange: Because I brought his son back from the mermaids
Vee Barlett: tries to keep her obsession from latching on to that
Vee Barlett: So why can't he prove you ain't Firebeard?
Ruffus DeOrange: It is hard to prove you are NOT someone
Ruffus DeOrange: until you bring in that person
Vee Barlett: Firebeard dead.
Ruffus DeOrange: I am hopeful that he is
Ruffus DeOrange: BUT
Vee Barlett: isn't sure she is
Vee Barlett: But?
Ruffus DeOrange: Someone is out there doing things
Ruffus DeOrange: and the Admiral is missing
Ruffus DeOrange: Leans in....
Vee Barlett: grips her dagger handle
Ruffus DeOrange: Could it be him?
Ruffus DeOrange: Or?
Inv Zora Polasis: Someone who is not dead. Like you are not dead
Ruffus DeOrange: I need you to help on this
Vee Barlett: Not dead. Yet.
Ruffus DeOrange: Exactly, I am not dead
Vee Barlett: Yet.
Temperance: presses her lips together and gauges the situation quietly.
Vee Barlett: Fine. I set my terms. You agree to them. We set off, capisce?
Ruffus DeOrange: So what do you say, will you help me catch an not dead dread dead pirate?
Vee Barlett: No. I'll find out about this supposed pirate and you can tag along.
Ruffus DeOrange: That sounds fun
Rothuss Carder: Yep, sure does!
Inv Zora Polasis: sighs
Vee Barlett: And we can decide later if we catch 'em or kill 'em or what.
Temperance: exhales softly as well.
Ruffus DeOrange: We just need to bring back proof that I am not dead
Inv Zora Polasis: This is not about you. It's about the kidnapped Admiral
Rothuss Carder: has a gleeful twinkle in his eye.
Vee Barlett: Don't do anything to make ya dead then.
Temperance: Just waltz around screaming, I'm sure people will know.
Ruffus DeOrange: You would be surprised how ineffective that has been
Temperance: My, what a shame.
Vee Barlett: I can stab ya now if it helps prove it to others.
Vee Barlett: Let's go.
Lirtimya: You're fueling it by denying it so hard
Rothuss Carder: Pretty sure the dead have no rhythm. You could try dancing. Maybe Vee will be your partner?
Inv Zora Polasis: shakes her head grumbling to herself “ this is a mistake.”
Vee Barlett: Glad I got a second dagger. One to stab each of ya...
Vee Barlett: mutters
Lirtimya: There's nothing more suspicious than denying too much
Temperance: shakes her head at the new turn of events, but endeavors to keep herself civil.
Vee Barlett: takes a deep breath and tries to center herself and stuff away the rage before the meeting
Inv Zora Polasis: yanks Vee back for a minute
Inv Zora Polasis: What are you doing? He's not trustworthy
Vee Barlett: Ack! What?
Vee Barlett: I'm aware.
Inv Zora Polasis: Then why?
Inv Zora Polasis: Ohhhh you like him, don't you?
Vee Barlett: He shady as shit but he does keep his deals.
Inv Zora Polasis: All that complaining. You just want him back
Vee Barlett: Don't make me shank you, too. I only got two daggers and they got names on them. I'd have to go with a stone knife and that won't be pretty.
Vee Barlett: But he got connections, money, and knowledge. He gonna be an easy one to get to talk and do what we want.
Inv Zora Polasis: For telling the truth? What do we need him for?
Vee Barlett: If nothin' else, we can rob him later.
Inv Zora Polasis: Do you really go around robbing people?
Vee Barlett: shrugs
Vee Barlett: As Dad says, light fingers make light work. And somethin' else.
Inv Zora Polasis: You're not going to rob him and I'll bet you a gold piece you're back in bed with him before this is all over.
Inv Zora Polasis: But you're in charge Violet so off we go
Vee Barlett: Maybe I gotta try that oyster picker on you...
Inv Zora Polasis: sighs
Inv Zora Polasis: You won't do that either
Temperance: You both alright back there?
Vee Barlett: Look, I say we see what we get out of him and if he useless we drop him later.
Inv Zora Polasis: We're coming!
Levi Reed: Hurry up! I bet this Duke's got a good spread he's going to feel obligated to serve us
Vee Barlett: Just discussin' violence. It's fine.
Inv Zora Polasis: laughs
Temperance: nods in understanding.
Rothuss Carder: No hurries, ladies. You just stay back there and gossip all you want.
Temperance: I'm not surprised.
Lirtimya: If it's violence against him, don't leave me out next time
Rothuss Carder: We'll be up here discussing manly things, like betting, and beer.
Vee Barlett: Hmm... okay how about if he don't live up to his end of the deal, I'll let you shank him? That make ya feel better, sis?
Inv Zora Polasis: laughs
Temperance: takes out her notebook to keep record.
Inv Zora Polasis: Gladly
Vee Barlett: Good. Glad ya actually just lookin' out for me and ain't questionin' my fake crushes.
Vee Barlett: 'Cause Thurmund has a better chance at that.
Vee Barlett: returns to group
Osip Shukov: Welcome to Mizzen Manor
Osip Shukov: How can I help you?
Vee Barlett: We here to see the Duke. Temple of Orange Sunsets sent us.
Osip Shukov: That is very nice
Vee Barlett: Sure.
Ruffus DeOrange: Hello Shukov,
Osip Shukov: OH hellow
Inv Zora Polasis: to Temperance, Maybe show the key
Temperance: is waiting on it until she needs to.
Rothuss Carder: He's here to prove he's not the Dread Pirate Firebeard.
Ruffus DeOrange: Now don't give me that, you can see I am here with friends
Vee Barlett: We can leave him behind if it helps our cause.
Osip Shukov: Friends? or FREEEENDS?
Temperance: furrows her brows.
Ruffus DeOrange: You wound me
Rothuss Carder: Only 2 e's
Temperance: What's the difference?
Temperance: They're both the same words.
Ruffus DeOrange: These are actually people who know me and have traveled with me before
Inv Zora Polasis: I ...
Inv Zora Polasis: stops herself
Ruffus DeOrange: They have, well some of them, have spent time with me
Temperance: pats Zora on the shoulder in understanding.
Osip Shukov: As long as you are paying for the rounds I am certain Sir
Levi Reed: Um
Lirtimya: Fidgeting with one of her bags with spell items in it
Levi Reed: You're putting it generously
Vee Barlett: We ain't his normal ruckus.
Ruffus DeOrange: Sadly I cannot help that my friends like to drink
Rothuss Carder: So, I think we have some sort of certificate of authenticity or something, to say who we are?
Levi Reed: That part at least is true
Inv Zora Polasis: Yes!
Ruffus DeOrange: OH we do not need that
Rothuss Carder: Oh, not including him, of course.
Vee Barlett: Well yer presence don't seem to be helpin' so maybe we do.
Temperance: keeps one hand on the box with the key in her pouch, waiting to see if they need it.
Ruffus DeOrange: We just need a quick moment to show our bonifieds
Vee Barlett: More like a barnacle on a ship...
Rothuss Carder: We like to call him “ Local Color” . Because his name's Orange, y'see?
Osip Shukov: You want to vouch for these people I am not going to stop you,
Osip Shukov: Just remember I removed the bushes from the east side windows,
Rothuss Carder: sidles up to Osip.
Vee Barlett: Why that matter?
Rothuss Carder: quietly out the side of his mouth asks, “ Umm.. would it help or hurt if he vouches for us?”
Temperance: raises an eyebrow.
Ruffus DeOrange: The easiest exit not out the front doors is to the east
Vee Barlett: Already startin' to regret you bein' here....
Vee Barlett: Ugh, we just need to see the Duke.
Temperance: mumbles to herself, “ at least we know which windows to throw him out of”
Osip Shukov: I have no opinion on this
Osip Shukov: Very well, I cannot stop him or his guests
Rothuss Carder: steps back. “ Understood”
Osip Shukov: Welcome
Vee Barlett: Thanks, I supposin'
Ruffus DeOrange: Thank you so much Shukov
Ruffus DeOrange: I will be sure to remember this at some point
Vee Barlett: Empty words ain't flatterin' so better fill those up.
Inv Zora Polasis: shakes her head again
And you are led into the palace through the waiting halls
Temperance: lifts her hand out of her pouch with a soft sigh.
Rothuss Carder: slips Shukov a gold piece.
and when the guards see the group they halt; then they see Ruffus and go send for more help
Osip Shukov: Thank you sir, (to Roth)
Vee Barlett: pinches bridge of nose again
Rothuss Carder: For all you do and put up with around here.
Vee Barlett: Gonna owe Zora a drink at this rate...
Inv Zora Polasis: mumbles, “ mistake, mistake”
Eventually after a bit of time you are in the official hall, with the Duke and his wife
Constance Bluebleeder: Hello Ruffus
Levi Reed: Well this is turning out to be an adventure already
Constance Bluebleeder: What have you brought us today?
Vee Barlett: Vee from the Temple of Orange Sunsets, sir. You sent for us?
Ruffus DeOrange: BOWS
Vee Barlett: nods to Tempe to show the key
Vee Barlett: and clumsily follows the bow
Duke of Mizzen: Are you actually from there?
Vee Barlett: tries to hide her discomfort
Temperance: takes out the box with the key in it.
Temperance: Were you the one that sent this item?
Duke of Mizzen: Waves away the formality from the group
Vee Barlett: nods to Zora
Vee Barlett: And a letter to the Cathedral.
Duke of Mizzen: Bring that here
Temperance: approaches the duke and hands him the box.
Vee Barlett: shifts from a bow to crossing her arms
Rothuss Carder: gives the Duke and his wife a good looking-at.
Duke of Mizzen: Opens it and holds up the key
Levi Reed: Also if you want to kick the riffraff out before we start talking, we're fine with that.
Levi Reed: glances at Ruffus
Duke of Mizzen: He takes the key out of the box and expertly disassembles it into the five parts
While the Duke handles the key, the group looks around and assesses their skills.
Temperance: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 17]
Vee Barlett: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 12) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 15]
Temperance: [SKILL] Bureaucracy (2) [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 1] [d20 = 14]
Lirtimya: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 16) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 20]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Alertness [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 10] [d20 = 5]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Artistic Ability [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 10] [d20 = 4]
Temperance: [CHECK] Intelligence (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 12] [d20 = 1]
Inv Zora Polasis: [SKILL] Statecraft [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 5] [d20 = 18]
Temperance: [CHECK] Wisdom (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 2] [d20 = 14]
Duke of Mizzen: Pulling out the final small piece he pulls a small piece of paper out of a hollow spot
Duke of Mizzen: He looks up at you
Temperance: watches what she hopes is every detail.
Inv Zora Polasis: is annoyed she did not find the paper herself
Duke of Mizzen: Apparently you did not try to steal or sell this as an artifact
Vee Barlett: Nah, we smarter than that.
Rothuss Carder: *are*. We *are* smarter than that.
Vee Barlett: Not you.
Vee Barlett: to Rothuss
Levi Reed: Some of us
Temperance: And a bit more lawful, I sincerely hope.
Rothuss Carder: Sorry, Duke, we're still trying to housebreak her.
Duke of Mizzen: Yes this paper is enspelled to burn if it has been attempted to be sold or bartered
Levi Reed: ... again, some of us
Temperance: I see.
Duke of Mizzen: At least one of you
Vee Barlett: bites her tongue from a retort given the company
Duke of Mizzen: and I know it was not Ruffus
Vee Barlett: We in agreement there.
Ruffus DeOrange: Sir I would never sell something of yours
Ruffus DeOrange: If I knew if was yours
Levi Reed: What would we have gained from selling or bartering it? Seems like you can offer us anything better than an illicit trader
Constance Bluebleeder: Ruffus, you would not know and not care until you needed it the next day
Temperance: raises an eyebrow at this Ruffus with a look that reads 'why am I not surprised?'
Duke of Mizzen: It means that Ruffus was actually right for once
Levi Reed: You can just ignore him, he's not like, “ with us” we just ran into him
Vee Barlett: Even a broken sundial is.
Duke of Mizzen: When he said if I sent this to the Church of Orange Sunsets that it would bring their best investigators
Vee Barlett: You got a pirate back from the dead and a kidnappin' we hear?
Rothuss Carder: nudges Zora with an elbow.
Inv Zora Polasis: smiles
Temperance: makes room for Zora to step up a bit.
Duke of Mizzen: We have a magician trying to pretend to be a pirate
Duke of Mizzen: It cannot actually be Firebeard, he has been dead
Temperance: A magician, you say?
Duke of Mizzen: and Pirates do not come back from being dead
Vee Barlett: We run into undead so ain't gonna say never say never.
Duke of Mizzen: That is what I need you to do
Vee Barlett: How'd Firebeard die?
Rothuss Carder: glances over at Temperance, wondering if we should mention the formerly-dead crocodiles we just met that morning.
Temperance: nods in return, signaling to go for it.
Duke of Mizzen: To prove that this young scoundrel is or is not the one who is the Dread Pirate Firebeard, who kidnapped my Admiral
Vee Barlett: And if he is?
Ruffus DeOrange: I am not dead
Rothuss Carder: Has anyone actually reported seeing Firebeard, or just the clues left behind?
Constance Bluebleeder: You could be
Vee Barlett: Yer gonna have to get in line for that.
Temperance: coughs to cover a laugh.
Temperance: Excuse me. Must be the Ruffus allergies.
Duke of Mizzen: There have been green fire footprints left in Red Hook
Ruffus DeOrange: I have not been in Red Hook in months,
Inv Zora Polasis: Can you give us any details you have on how the Admiral was kidnapped? When it happened and from where?
Vee Barlett: Surprised ya weren't shanked there.
Duke of Mizzen: A short time ago, the Lord Admiral of Mizzen suddenly disappeared. Now the streets of this thriving trade port are filled with bare footprints that dance with ghostly green flames, the signature of the long-dead pirate Firebeard. Has the dreaded buccaneer come back from the grave to haunt the city that hounded him to his grave? The Mizzen Council fears the worst, and has hired a band of adventurers to determine the truth behind the unsettling happenings.
Temperance: takes out her notebook to record the details.
Vee Barlett: How'd Firebeard die initially?
Inv Zora Polasis: So he disappeared and no one knows if it was from his home or his ship? And it was here in Mizzen?
Duke of Mizzen: The Isle of Jilanth is part of the Siren Call group
Duke of Mizzen: We have patrolled the passage to prevent the unlawful behavior there from spreading here
Ruffus DeOrange: Looks guilty
Duke of Mizzen: I need you to go find Admiral Josin and bring him home, or tell me what happened to him
Duke of Mizzen: Because I do not believe that a dead pirate kidnapped my Admiral
Vee Barlett: Any other clues or useful information? We got questions waitin' for answers.
Inv Zora Polasis: So the last he was seen was patrolling the Jilanth passage?
Duke of Mizzen: I have questions waiting for a headsman's axe
Rothuss Carder: takes a half step away from Ruffus.
Duke of Mizzen: Yes to Zora, he was there and then his ship disappeared, and no one would venture into the jungles to find him
Inv Zora Polasis: His whole ship disappeared as well?
Vee Barlett: frowns and lets Zora take over
Ruffus DeOrange: Sir I promise to go help these experts to prove I did not have anything to do with this and we will bring the Admiral home again
Duke of Mizzen: Three ships disappeared
Duke of Mizzen: His and two others
Temperance: raises another eyebrow while continuing to record.
Temperance: Three ships?
Vee Barlett: You expectin' us to head towards Siren's Call? We need a better ship if that happens.
Inv Zora Polasis: And the flame of Firebeard have been seen at Red Hook only or at Jilanth as well?
Duke of Mizzen: I was told that the finest investigators would arrive and solve my problems
Temperance: Was the Priest Jereth of the Fourth Circle, Master of the Winds accompanying him by chance? We were told that he may have a bit more information.
Duke of Mizzen: I have not ventured, nor have I asked my people to go to Jilanth after this incident last week
Duke of Mizzen: Jereth is here
Inv Zora Polasis: We shall. We need as much information you know as possible so we may make quicker work of the investigation
Inv Zora Polasis: If it pleases you
Inv Zora Polasis: Ohh we would very much like to speak with Jereth as well
Duke of Mizzen: So would I
Duke of Mizzen: but he has been silent
Temperance: furrows her brows.
Duke of Mizzen: from what ever he saw when the Admiral disappeared
Duke of Mizzen: The church here has said he needs rest
Duke of Mizzen: He needs quiet
Duke of Mizzen: I say I need answers
Temperance: The Church of Mizzen is the one that recommended we speak to him.
Rothuss Carder: Is he responsive at all? Unconscious, or just non-talkative?
Duke of Mizzen: He seems to be knowledgeable of where he is but he does not respond to anyone
Duke of Mizzen: He eats if he is given food and prompted
Duke of Mizzen: but he does nothing else
Vee Barlett: IF ya don't think it'll hurt, we'd like to try talkin' to him.
Rothuss Carder: thinks
Temperance: Hm... an interesting case. I do agree we should at least try...
Inv Zora Polasis: Any known mages missing in the area?
Duke of Mizzen: Not that I have been told of
Rothuss Carder: moves over to Ruffus' side.
Inv Zora Polasis: It would seem it would be a powerful magic user to be able to accomplish what has transpired
Temperance: nods in agreement with Zora.
Temperance: Perhaps this Priest Jereth has been put under a spell of his own...
Inv Zora Polasis: Good point Temperance
Duke of Mizzen: We have no powerful mages here on Mizzen
Rothuss Carder: whispers to Ruffus DeOrange: Ruffus, just to put it out there, if you absolutely want to prove your innocence, just have them put you under house arrest for a couple of weeks. Firebeard does his thing while you're here, and you're clear.
Ruffus DeOrange: whispers to Rothuss Carder: Do you want me to go with you to help? or do you want me to stay here while you prove I am innocent?
Duke of Mizzen: If you would like to visit with him I have no objections
Duke of Mizzen: Just be quick, it has been more than a week
Inv Zora Polasis: How long has Firebeard been dead if you know? Is he legend or a recent pirate of note?
Duke of Mizzen: Firebeard died over a decade ago
Temperance: A decade...? A long time to be showing signs now...
Rothuss Carder: whispers to Ruffus DeOrange: That's why I'm not telling everyone this, just you. Depends on what you want, man. I think I'd rather have you along, but thought you'd want to know the option.
Ruffus DeOrange: whispers to Rothuss Carder: I want to go and prove, I am a man of action
Rothuss Carder: nods to Ruffus and steps back to his place, still thinking.
Duke of Mizzen: That is why I do not believe he is back from the dead
Duke of Mizzen: this much be a copycat
Duke of Mizzen: Or a pretender
Duke of Mizzen: or
Inv Zora Polasis: But easier to frighten with magic and signs
Levi Reed: Sometimes people lay low for a while. Or try to go straight and then get drawn back in
Duke of Mizzen: With magic I am not certain
Inv Zora Polasis: I agree
Temperance: nods in understanding.
Rothuss Carder: How long have the footprints stayed around?
Rothuss Carder: And have they ben seen by someone reliable, or just rumors?
Duke of Mizzen: The best way I know it to go to Jilanth and investigate
Duke of Mizzen: At least two of the encounters with them I believe, the others could be panic
Rothuss Carder: A good start. Chasing rumors is a pain.
Constance Bluebleeder: groans
Constance Bluebleeder: Are you trying to tell me that Rothuss was right to call you here?
Rothuss Carder: holds his hand up.
Rothuss Carder: Ruffus. I'm Rothuss. Pleasure to meet you, ma'am.
Rothuss Carder: That's already happened a couple of times, believe it or not. I'm thinking I may have to change my name.
Constance Bluebleeder: It would be a bit distressing to have to deal with all of his..... attachments
Rothuss Carder: Yes ma'am. I have to deal with one of his... attachments... every day. I understand completely.
Temperance: We simply wished to make certain we had all the details in line without room for miscommunication. Sometimes pieces of information get mixed around and lead us astray. We simply wish to be thorough, as this is a pressing case.
Constance Bluebleeder: I am glad for that Priestess Temperance
Constance Bluebleeder: We need calm level headed people to handle this
Duke of Mizzen: We need people who can solve this
Duke of Mizzen: I do not care how
Duke of Mizzen: Just bring him back and make things right
Rothuss Carder: Sounds fun.
Temperance: smiles gently.
Temperance: I understand your distress. We will make certain to speak with Jereth and see what more can give us a clearer picture. Thank you, for all your information and assistance.
The time is 12:30 PM
The date is Pen____de, 6th Sin (Late Summer), 587 SGR
Young Moon's phase is Waning Gibbous
Old Moon's phase is Waning Gibbous
Duke of Mizzen: I hope you will solve this in the next two days
Levi Reed: Do we have to take Ruffus with us?
Duke of Mizzen: Why would I care?
Levi Reed: Fantastic
Levi Reed: Thank you sir
Constance Bluebleeder: Dear, he can go where he wants
Ruffus DeOrange: I will go to clear my name
Temperance: focuses on the 'next two days'
Levi Reed: What happens if it takes three days?
Ruffus DeOrange: Nothing
Duke of Mizzen: We have a meeting with the other local islands other than Borinquen to discuss trade
Duke of Mizzen: So we can present a united front
Levi Reed: Hmmm. You got any homing pigeons or anything you can give us, so we can send a message when we get it sorted? That way you could get the news before we make the trek back
Duke of Mizzen: You have priests, I know they can communicate with each other
Rothuss Carder: looks over at Temperance.
Inv Zora Polasis: nods
Levi Reed: I mean... sure, we can all communicate
Levi Reed: But not instantly?
Levi Reed: Unless there's something I don't know about priests?
Duke of Mizzen: Are you capable of doing this?
Levi Reed: turns to look at Tempe
Duke of Mizzen: OR do I need to send to the Cathedral at Osterhold
Inv Zora Polasis: Not all priests focus on divination but we can speak with the church here if we need assistance
Inv Zora Polasis: Not to worry
So the group is dismissed
Vee Barlett: So what can ya actually contribute, Ruffus? Or ya just gonna be dead weight and we best leave you here?
Ruffus DeOrange: You know I have skills
Vee Barlett: No. I don't. I ain't seen you in combat or do anything except throw money at things you want.
Ruffus DeOrange: Those count at skills I do believe
Vee Barlett: Even yer thievery left a trail miles long over water. Soppy.
Ruffus DeOrange: Among other things you have seen
Levi Reed: You saying he wasn't skilled in bed, Violet?
Vee Barlett: I'm sayin' that if we end up on Siren's Call, how good or bad you are in bed only matters to the sirens. If they don't just drown ya.
Ruffus DeOrange: I have you to distract me
Levi Reed: Maybe we should take him for bait
Vee Barlett: No. Charm is useless here. Can. You. Fight.
Rothuss Carder: You are a braver man than I, Ruffus.
Ruffus DeOrange: Of course I can
Levi Reed: Or a sacrifice, if the sirens come looking for something
Vee Barlett: Can you fight. Can you sail. Can you do ANYTHING except yap yer mouth?
Ruffus DeOrange: I have won many duels
Vee Barlett: With what?
Ruffus DeOrange: I can sail better than you can
Ruffus DeOrange: You do remember that I beat you here
Levi Reed: Bold words from someone who crashed here and hasn't been able to find a way off
Vee Barlett: By shovin' gold up the captain's ass. That ain't sailin' and ya lost half yer crew AND yer ship. And ya didn't go down with it.
Ruffus DeOrange: I was here first that is what actually matters
Vee Barlett: I need to know you won't be a liability.
Rothuss Carder: checks the sun to see what time it is.
Temperance: And you wonder why people are convinced that you're a dead pirate even if you're alive....
Ruffus DeOrange: EXACTLY
Ruffus DeOrange: I do lots of very ALIVE things
Temperance: Maybe they just believe you're best dead.
Ruffus DeOrange: You wound me Fair Temperance
Vee Barlett: You could get away with lots if you were invisible. Zora could vouch for that.
Vee Barlett: Fine. We get supplies. You buyin' what we need. And you somehow convince me you won't be a liability.
Ruffus DeOrange: Are you asking me?
Ruffus DeOrange: I can get supplies
Vee Barlett: Good. Prove yer worth.
Ruffus DeOrange: What is the name of the ship you came on
Vee Barlett: We'll start with baby steps.
Vee Barlett: Jean.
Ruffus DeOrange: Very well
Ruffus DeOrange: I will go get provisions and meet you there in one hour
Ruffus DeOrange: Runs off
Vee Barlett: He gets dibs at next undead crocodile.
Levi Reed: Get arrows!
Levi Reed: And wax!
Rothuss Carder: takes Temperance's elbow and gently disengages her from the conversation.
Rothuss Carder: So, how do you think we should approach Jereth?
Temperance: I'm... trying to figure that out. I do have a detect charm spell and undetectable charm, along with several mind spells I could try, but...
Temperance: We will have to see.
Rothuss Carder: nods. “ Sounds good. Zora might be able to help with the words. I might be able to use music, if he don't do words.”
Temperance: Thank you for disengaging me from the conversation. He was starting to grate my patience.
Temperance: shakes her head with a deadpan look on her face.
Rothuss Carder: Yeah, I saw. Never seen you get that heated before.
Vee Barlett: He's an idiot. Let's see what ya can do about that priest, though.
Vee Barlett: We ain't got long if we on a deadline.
Temperance: Yes, let's focus on that.
Levi Reed: Yeah, that was a lot of emotion from you Tempe
Levi Reed: You ok?
Rothuss Carder: hooks Tempe's hand into his elbow and pats the back of her hand.
Rothuss Carder: C'mon, let's go plumb the depths of Jereth's mute mind.
Temperance: I'm alright. He simply does not have a good reputation, and is displaying that in greater capacity than I assumed he would.
Levi Reed: Ahhh, yeah. The guy's a true scumbag
an aide leads you around to the back portion of the palace where there is a garden and an older man is sitting there in a wheeled chair, watching the flowers
Temperance: watches for a bit before approaching cautiously.
Temperance: Priest Jereth of the Fourth Circle?
Vee Barlett: stands back and watches
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: sighs
Rothuss Carder: squats down nearby off to one side and just watches Jereth closely for any body language cues.
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Dragons
Temperance: Hello, I'm Priestess Temperance from the Cathedral of Osterhold.
Temperance: Dragons...?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: black wing
Temperance: Black winged dragons?
Rothuss Carder: checking to see if he's heard of any dragons named Black Wing
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: silver tipped
Temperance: Silver-tipped black-winged dragons?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Lost tails
The group thinks and tries to make sense of Jereth’s words
Rothuss Carder: [TOWER] [SKILL] Local History [MOD:CHA] (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 9] [d20 = 7]
Rothuss Carder thinks this is nothing that he has heard of
Temperance: [CHECK] Intelligence (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 7] [d20 = 20]
Temperance: is very confused by this dragon talk lol
Temperance: Silver-tipped black-winged dragons with lost tails?
Temperance: writes down the words in order just in case.
Vee Barlett: [CHECK] Intelligence [-4] (vs. Target 12) [FAILURE by 10] [d20+4 = 22]
Vee Barlett: [SKILL] Sage Knowledge, Island Kingdoms [MOD:CHA] (vs. Target 10) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 13]
Levi Reed: [CHECK] Intelligence (vs. Target 9) [SUCCESS by 3] [d20 = 6]
Rothuss Carder: I'm almost wondering if it's butterflies.
Temperance: Butterflies?
Rothuss Carder: which is stupid
Inv Zora Polasis: Butterflies don't have tails
Rothuss Carder: Yeah, maybe types of butterflies. Why would that matter to an Admiral on a boat?
Rothuss Carder: Ignore me, I went random for a minute.
Members of the group keep on thinking … Temperance: [CHECK] Wisdom (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 2] [d20 = 14]
Vee Barlett: [SKILL] Ranger Tracking [2] [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 4] [d20 = 11]
Temperance: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 11] [d20 = 2]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Ranger Tracking [2] [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 8] [d20 = 7]
Rothuss Carder: [CHECK] Intelligence (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 12] [d20 = 1]
Rothuss Carder: [SKILL] Animal Rending [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 16) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 20]
Rothuss Carder: [SKILL] Local History [MOD:CHA] (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 6] [d20 = 10]
Temperance: [SKILL] Reading-Writing [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 12] [d20 = 1]
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Botany [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 10] [d20 = 3]
So between Levi and Vee they can tell that almost everything he is talking about is types of birds/gulls, except for the word dragon
Inv Zora Polasis: Perhaps try to direct his focus to the admiral?
Temperance: These black-winged dragons you were describing... did you see them out at sea? With the Admiral?
Temperance: gently attempts to steer the conversation in that direction.
Levi Reed: We're here to help, Jereth Levi Reed: [SKILL] Artistic Ability [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 12] [d20 = 2]
As best as Levi can tell Jereth is describing things he saw, but they are jumbled up in his memory
Levi Reed: Can dragons pretend to be dead pirates?
Rothuss Carder: pulls his lute around and starts strumming a quiet, steady tune, just to see if it catches Jereth's interest or anything.
Rothuss Carder: [SKILL] Musical Instrument [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 8] [d20 = 5]
For Temperance as she described the images back to him, he smiles as Black Winged, then cringes at Dragon, then smiles again after that passes
The lute music does not seem to affect him
Vee Barlett: Can ya try drawin' a picture Levi?
Levi Reed: Anybody got something to draw on?
Rothuss Carder: My face, apparently
Temperance: hands him a notebook and quill.
Levi Reed: attempts to draw the dragon thingy as described by Jereth
Levi Reed: [SKILL] Artistic Ability [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 18]
Levi Reed: Did it look like this?
Levi Reed: holds picture up so Jereth can see
Levi can draw the head of a gull, he adds a body and dragon wings but then Jereth gets confused
Temperance: digs in her pouch and hands the Priest Jereth a spare quill to see if he would like to write or draw.
Levi Reed: You think somebody cursed him?
Inv Zora Polasis: It might be the case
Temperance: If you have a hard time describing things verbally, it always helps to write. I can try to help with your problem, but I would need your consent to cast some spells to help with it.
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: strokes the quill gently
Vee Barlett: Hey, Jereth? What's yer favorite color?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: soft quiet happy
Rothuss Carder: Definitely a bird fancier
Vee Barlett: Oh, that's a good one. What's yer favorite bird, Jereth?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Black Winged Gulls are very persistent in finding food especially along the water front
Vee Barlett: Yar, they are. And what's yer favorite island?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: I have been on Mizzen for many years, I have grown to love it
Vee Barlett: Yar, it's a good one. And whatcha like to eat?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: sweet fresh sugar cane is a treat
Vee Barlett: Mm, that be delicious, yar. And what's yer favorite: ship or boat?
Levi Reed: quietly to Vee “ Ask him what his favorite dragon is”
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Boats are for amateurs
Vee Barlett: laughs
Levi Reed: rude!
Vee Barlett: Yar, and how long ya been on ships?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: 20 years I have captained ships
Vee Barlett: quietly to Levi, we'll get there maybe, can't have him shut down yet
Vee Barlett: Mhmm, that's a mighty fine time. And what's yer favorite memory?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Sailing through a hurricane and coming out the other side with every sailor intact and the ship whole and healthy
Vee Barlett: Damn, you got stories! And what's yer favorite... *looks at the others for more ideas* ....person?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: My Duke has learned to rule with a peaceful hand
Vee Barlett: Hmm, I'll take yer word on it. What about yer favorite port?
Vee Barlett: Port of Call, I mean. Not the drink. Although what's yer favorite drink? Gotta make sure yer comfy.
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Plithoth is my home
Inv Zora Polasis: The admiral?
Vee Barlett: How's workin' with the admiral? He yer favorite boss?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Admiral Jessup is fair, he is no Klipoth
Vee Barlett: snorts
Vee Barlett: Sorry, that be a funny rhyme.
Vee Barlett: What's yer favorite animal?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: The Gulls are dear to my heart
Vee Barlett: Ahh them black-tipped ones? They be pretty, yeah?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: The black tipped Gulls are always a sign that you have arrived in a port
Vee Barlett: Yar, it a good sign.
Vee Barlett: What's yer favorite song?
Inv Zora Polasis: Like at Jilanth?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Jilanth is dark
Vee Barlett: Are them gulls there?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: lizard
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: dragons
Inv Zora Polasis: and magic?
He shuts down again
Temperance: observes the look on his face.
Vee Barlett: Oop, back up. Not a fun memory, yeah?
Temperance: Did your sailors sing any songs while you sailed?
Temperance: Was there a favorite?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Singing is for women
Vee Barlett: Shanty?
Rothuss Carder: chuckles.
Vee Barlett: What about a good shanty?
Vee Barlett: Jereth, as my favorite.... priest at the moment, anything ya need from us?
Vee Barlett: Are you comfy? Are you okay?
Rothuss Carder: Want to go see the gulls?
Inv Zora Polasis: What about Red Hook?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Oh, Elcid Barrett cried the town; How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now; For twenty brave men, all fishermen, who; Would make for him the Antelope's crew
Vee Barlett: Oooh that a good shanty! I like it.
Inv Zora Polasis: See any pirates?
and he shuts down at the sound of Pirates
Temperance: stands quietly to listen.
Vee Barlett: Hey Jereth, you got any favorite siblings?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: My sister was pretty
Vee Barlett: She not here anymore?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: She left long ago
Vee Barlett: Sorry to hear that.
Temperance: notes down which words Priest Jereth shut down on, such as 'dragons' and 'pirates'
Vee Barlett: Where your boss at?
He goes quiet and looks at the flowers in the garden
Vee Barlett: What's yer favorite flower?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Peonies are pretty
Inv Zora Polasis: Firebeard
Vee Barlett: Think thems call firewheels.
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: That is not a flower
Inv Zora Polasis: No
Inv Zora Polasis: seen a Firebeard?
Rothuss Carder: Green footprints?
And he shuts down again
Vee Barlett: Well confirmin' what we knew there at least...
Rothuss Carder: Firebeard didn't stop him, but footprints did
Temperance: notes it all down.
Levi Reed: Did someone curse you, Jereth?
Vee Barlett: Well I ain't sure what else to ask. Y'all can take over or we can pick him some peonies and leave him.
Inv Zora Polasis: takes the flower from her hair and gives it to Jereth
Inv Zora Polasis: This one is pretty
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Very pretty
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: thank you
Inv Zora Polasis: Thank you for helping us.
Vee Barlett: Maybe we can hear more of yer stories on day, yeah?
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: I am here to help
Vee Barlett: Take care of yerself, mate. You had it rough.
Jereth of the Fourth Circle, protector of gulls, vision of the squid, and friend to the shrimp: Hums to himself
Temperance: exhales softly and reviews through her notes.
Rothuss Carder: plucks the strings of his lute to the tune of the shanty he sang earlier, as the group leaves.
Levi Reed: Well, anyone know what we'll need in case we encounter some dragons?
Vee Barlett: Better arrows.
Rothuss Carder: A god or two wouldn't hurt neither.
Temperance: laughs lightly.
Levi Reed: I should have donated more at the church
Rothuss Carder: I'm wondering how he got away, if it was a dragon. No boats, just a comatose dude floating in the sea alone?
Vee Barlett: Someone let him go.
Inv Zora Polasis: He said Jilanth was a dark place and nothing when I said Red Hook. I'm wondering if we should just go straight to Jilanth. But the footprints have been seen at Red Hook.
Rothuss Carder: Yeah, I'd like to check those out if we have time.
Vee Barlett: Three ships disappear and only he comes back? That ain't luck. That purposeful.
Inv Zora Polasis: True
Temperance: nods in agreement, as she continues to jot some notes.
Vee Barlett: Might find someone who can talk at Red Hook. Or not. Just be careful there.
Vee Barlett: It on the way, anyways.
Levi Reed: We got anything to protect our brains from getting scrambled like that?
Vee Barlett: Gotta have one first.
Levi Reed: I'm too young to go senile
Rothuss Carder: So where did Jereth there see footprints at, if it wasn't at Red Hook?
Inv Zora Polasis: The Duke mentioned sightings at Red Hook
Temperance: Since I'm not sure what spells are scrambling these minds, all I can offer is a silence spell.
Rothuss Carder: Oh, do we know, before or after the Admiral disappeared?
Inv Zora Polasis: I'm not sure
Inv Zora Polasis: The ships were patrolling the passage at Jilanth
Vee Barlett: If ya want to ask pirates about a dead pirate, it be at Red Hook.
Levi Reed: Vee, you really can dish it out, but you sure can't take it
Vee Barlett: ignores Levi
Temperance: I did remember someone saying we'll need a map.
