Vee Barlett: Actually... should we check that south tunnel real quick? Ain't want somethin' sneaking up behind us.

Vee Barlett: Zora, ya got a lantern? Wanna check with me real quick?

Temperance: scooches out of the way to let Vee through.

Levi Reed: I'll wait here and see if I can hear anything up ahead

Vee Barlett: Yar, we'll be quick.

Vee heads off into the darkness

There is the opening to the south that leads to the cavern, waves lapping along the floor of that portion of the cave

Vee follows the sound of water

then there is another large opening to the “east” that has several natural columns holding up the cave but it looks large

Vee Barlett: Water there, big cave openin' here.

Vee Barlett: Oh and tunnels, lookin' like.

Inv Zora Polasis: So this is another option. Should we follow Levi northy or whatever he called it first?

So Levi is up at the fork, with Temp a bit behind him, then Melange at the entrance to that passageway, then the other three exploring the larger cave to the east

Vee Barlett: Yar... we probably gotta come back this way anyways to get the skiff.

Vee Barlett: Might as well let Levi do his thing first.

Vee Barlett: tries to determine if anything alive might be past these tunnels

Vee Barlett: Hmm but.... there is definitely somethin' living farther into this cavern...

Levi has an itch of something wrong on the left fork, and nothing on the right fork

Vee Barlett: And it could sneak up on us. Melange, I see yer light. Go tell Levi we might wanna head this way first, yeah? Somethin' alive down here that can sneak up on us. See what he thinks.

Inv Zora Polasis: Perhaps we should wait until we are all together before we see what that is?

MeLange: fine

Vee Barlett: Yar. If it were water, I wouldn't but... caves ain't my thing.

MeLange: Hey Levi

MeLange: Vee says there may be something alive down there, so we should go there first

Temperance: raises an eyebrow at the “something alive.”

Levi Reed: Well, ok... might be something alive anywhere in here, but sure

Temperance: nods lightly.

Temperance: Will do.

Levi Reed: Hey guys, before we move on ahead

Levi Reed: There was something weird up in that fork up there... I don't know how to describe it but something felt... off

Inv Zora Polasis: moves forward a little with the light

Vee Barlett: Er... more worrisome than somethin' alive here?

Inv Zora Polasis: I'm not seeing much yet

Levi Reed: I think we're taking a gamble either way, might as well check out this big area first. At least it's a little more closed off up at the top... easier to block something trying to get through

Vee Barlett: You and Zora keep front then, Melange and I'll keep back since he got a light.

Temperance: nods lightly.

Vee Barlett: Tempe squishy so she can be the gooey middle.

Temperance: scooches a bit to the side to let people move.

One thing Levi and Zora can see if this cave is much bigger than anything else previously

Inv Zora Polasis: At least we aren't in a narrow bottleneck if anything does happen

Temperance: shines a light towards the opening next to her.

Vee Barlett: ushers Tempe farther ahead of her

Temperance: and then gets lead away in front of Vee.

Levi Reed: This place is huge. I've never been in a cave this spacious before

Vee Barlett: Could hide a ship in here.

Levi Reed: You could hide anything in here...

Inv Zora Polasis: looks around for a trap or something

Temperance: motions Melange to scoot closer to the light of the torches.

Across the opening there are many webs, with a giant spider descending on Zora... also there are two bodies wrapped up in webbing pinned to the ceiling there,

Levi Reed: Uh oh

Vee Barlett: Well that definitely be many things alive.

And there is a tunnel extending beyond the spider web/lair

Temperance: looks both intrigued and shocked at the same time.

MeLange: Saw that coming!

The Giant Spider’s webbing wraps around Zora and restrains her, while the spider remains above her near the ceiling

MeLange: Careful, they can be poisonous

Levi Reed: So don't eat it. Got it

MeLange throws a Hand Axe at the Giant Spider and hits it, lightly wounding it.

Levi Reed shoots an arrow from his Shortbow at the Giant Spider and hits it, moderately wounding it.

Inv Zora Polasis: prays for miracle

Inv Zora Polasis: tries to break free of the web but fails

Vee Barlett stabs the Giant Spider with her Trident critically wounding it.

The spider retreats up deeper into the webs, into a crevice in the ceiling

you still see two bundles caught up in the webs above

Vee Barlett: Darn, it runnin' off? Guess I can't use it to chase after someone...

Vee Barlett: But wonder what else is up there?

Levi Reed: Probably more spiders

Vee Barlett: Spiders don't bundle up other spiders.

Ruffus DeOrange: Do you want me to go after it? or to try to burn the webs?

Inv Zora Polasis: No!

Inv Zora Polasis: There were two bodies up there

Vee Barlett: Fire in a cave seems a bad idea.

Inv Zora Polasis: We have to cut them down and see who they are

Inv Zora Polasis: It might be the admiral

Vee Barlett: Oh, right. Forgot we gotta care about him.

Vee Barlett: Well lets get ya free then find a way to get them bodies down.

Inv Zora Polasis: Yes please

Vee Barlett: Ya got yer dagger on ya, Ruffus?

Ruffus DeOrange: I can do better than that

Vee Barlett: Don't set her on fire, neither.

Ruffus DeOrange neatly slices Zora out of the webs

and then with a THUD the two bodies fall from the ceiling

Inv Zora Polasis: Thank you

Vee Barlett: is once again begrudgingly impressed and annoyed at being impressed.

Temperance: flinches a bit.

Temperance: I suppose it solves that problem...

Vee Barlett: Nice. Now lets unwrap them. Be like the holidays or a birthday present.

Inv Zora Polasis: Are they still alive?

Levi Reed: Well, I hope they weren't conscious or that probably hurt Then a Third Body falls out of the ceiling

THUNK

Temperance: flinches again.

Vee Barlett: Wait, where the third come from?

Inv Zora Polasis: Another?

So Zora stands to the side and the three bodies fall down and tangle Temp and Vee up into the webs

Vee Barlett: Ah, damn. Sticky things.

Temperance: furrows her brows together.

Inv Zora Polasis: takes the dagger from the map room and helps to cut them loose

Vee and Temp take 2 points of damage each from the falling bodies

and yes the lamp oil ended for everyone

Temperance: Can someone light a torch as well?

Temperance: I would if I weren't so tangled.

Vee Barlett: ..............

MeLange: spooky

Vee Barlett: Well this feel uncomfortably familiar.

Vee Barlett: Someone make sure Ruffus don't try to escape.

Temperance: wriggles around in the dark to see if she can get free.

So after another few minutes

Everyone is free of the webs and in the dark

and then pull out your second pot of oil for two of the three lamps

Inv Zora Polasis: Ruffus help me cut these bodies free. You would recognize the Admiral or the Duke's son

Ruffus DeOrange: Sure

Inv Zora Polasis: takes the map room dagger and starts to cut the webs from the bodies that dropped

Vee Barlett: pulls sticky web remains off her then looks over their shoulders at the bodies

Out of the three bodies that dropped

One is a giant spider, dead

obviously stabbed slashed, pierced

Inv Zora Polasis: Ohhhh one is a spider

Inv Zora Polasis: kicks it away

Vee Barlett: Huh, but it were killed by not another spider.

MeLange: whoa, that's a giant spider

The other looks to be a mage, dead, missing an arm

Inv Zora Polasis: Look! This one looks like a mage maybe?

Vee Barlett: Born without or ripped off before fed to the spiders?

MeLange: we should search em, you know, for stuff

The third looks to be an.... not human? weird ears, wearing leather armor

Inv Zora Polasis: This elf, half elf like person isn't dead yet

Inv Zora Polasis: It's like he is not dead but not alive either

Temperance: blinks.

Temperance: Not dead but not alive?

Vee Barlett: Elf? Like in the stories? Didn't think they existed.

Inv Zora Polasis: searches his pockets

Inv Zora Polasis: I've never seen one but ... those ears! I've heard about them

MeLange: He's in like... Limbo

MeLange: maybe

Temperance: As long as it won't entangle me in the webs or anything of that sort I won't mind casting a healing spell.

Inv Zora Polasis: Look at this armor. It's light but not. I bet it's magical

Vee Barlett: Well if he dies I want dibs.

Temperance: If this.... creature is poisoned then simple healing will not work. Slow poison will be the best I can do.

Inv Zora Polasis: No the mage is dead

BUT Zora does find a belt pouch with 50 GP and a magical scroll on him

Inv Zora Polasis: But look what we have here.

Inv Zora Polasis: 50 gold pieces and a scroll

Inv Zora Polasis: tries to read the scroll

Vee Barlett: Looks like the things Lirt likes to read when she bored.

Inv Zora Polasis: Ugh. Looks magical to me. To bad Lirtimya is studying the map right now.

Inv Zora Polasis: She can look at it later

Temperance casts Slow Poison on the elf.

Vee Barlett: Well now we either leave the elf or carry him with us.

Levi Reed: I suspect if we leave him, he'll be dead or gone when we return

Vee Barlett: Alright. Melange, grab the elf and lets move on before the light dies out again.

MeLange: oh right!

Temperance: I can try to help as well, but I'm not sure if I'll be strong enough.

MeLange: goes to grab the elf

MeLange: hoists the elf

Inv Zora Polasis: The passage continues but we have to pass under the spider nests

Vee Barlett: hmm let me draw map...

Levi Reed: Ruffus, you got anything that can cure the poison on this... er... elf?

Ruffus DeOrange: Well One I am not a Priest, so no to healing poison, and two if that is really an elf, .... should we take it to a museum?

Vee Barlett: No one try to poison you? You ain't carry anything on ya just in case?

Levi Reed: Surely a man like you has been slipped poison before

Spider nest in the ceiling to the north alcove there, Temp can skirt around it and see the passageway is clear and looks to go east then north

Temperance: continues down the passageway cautiously, skirting around the spider nests and webs.

Ruffus DeOrange: The only people who have tried to poison me have done it in drink, and I am ..... slightly immune to most alcohol based issues?

Vee Barlett: snorts

Ruffus DeOrange: Temp is heading deeper into the island, farther into the jungles and unknown territory

Temperance: This passageway is getting narrow...

Temperance: furrows her brows and pauses for a moment.

Vee Barlett: Yar maybe we go back to the fork then.

Levi Reed: Be careful

Vee Barlett: That's goin' away from the water.

Temperance: glances at Zora who followed behind her.

Vee Barlett: Although maybe that's how to get on the island. Cave suppose to be entrance to the island.

Temperance: Did Vee say something?

Temperance: The water in my ears still hasn't cleared out all the way, it seems....

Inv Zora Polasis: I don't know. She keeps guessing where the path goes

Inv Zora Polasis: Think we just have to find out

Temperance: Shall I keep going?

Inv Zora Polasis: Sure. Right behind you

Inv Zora Polasis: Come on peoples!

Inv Zora Polasis: follows Tempe

Temperance: takes a couple steps ahead of her, looking around cautiously as she does so.

Temperance: continues to look around cautiously as she moves forward.

Levi Reed: If we're going this way, maybe let me go first?

Levi Reed: No offense Tempe, but I can take a hit better than you can

Temperance: laughs lightly.

Inv Zora Polasis: makes room

Temperance: Feel free to take the spot up front.

Temperance: has scooched to make room.

Temperance: I'm not used to taking the lead anyhow, with being soft and squishy, as Vee would say.

MeLange: soft and squishy can absorb the hits

Past the end of that map you go about a quarter of a mile with no real change

Levi cannot tell how much farther this might go, cannot tell you for certain if you should continue or go back to the other caves and see if there is an exit there

Vee Barlett: Y'all. We only have so much oil and this takin' us far from the boat.

Temperance: Well... shall we go back?

Levi Reed: We surely can't carry this elf thing around indefinitely

Vee Barlett: Yar, that be what I was sayin' earlier..

Temperance: It was hard to hear you the further away I walked.

Temperance: I couldn't tell if you wanted us to return.

Vee and Levi both feel that there might be indications that this passageway has been used at some point over the last couple of weeks/month or so but there is no clear indication that this is the right way to go and yes Vee is certain this is leading farther from the boat

Vee Barlett: Yar, thought you was the smart one. Let's backtrack, yeah?

Levi is certain this is the only place you have seen recent activity other than the spiders

Levi Reed: There might be something for poison on the boat. It's a long shot, but there ARE some venomous fish in the sea

Temperance: nods lightly.

Temperance: Ready when you are.

Levi Reed: Definitely looks like something's been through here recently, but I don't know that it's a great idea to carry the dead weight with us while we look into it

Vee Barlett: We can leave 'em in the skiff covered and check out the rest of that fork then see what clues we find.

Temperance: scooches in an attempt to make room for people behind her.

Vee Barlett: If nothin' else we ain't got light if ya don't know how far this goes, ain't sure we have the light for it. But yer call, caveman

Temperance: Let's go ahead and backtrack.

Temperance: It sounds like a good idea to leave the elf in the skiff covered.

Vee Barlett: Two votes for that and the rest abstain. Levi, lead on.

Vee Barlett: Yeah alright still carryin' the elf, Melange?

Vee Barlett: We can check up here then put him in the boat if'n we need to explore that long passage after.

MeLange: got it!

MeLange check on elf

Inv Zora Polasis: just leave the elf in the map room

MeLange: drops the elf off in the map room

The gibbets are rotting and lean wearily. The dead pirates hang at the end of frayed ropes, clothes and flesh hanging like threads from their yellowed bones.

and so you spot many skeletons of dead swashbucklers aiming towards making sure you are hanging from the mast as well

Temperance: Er... did it work?

Levi Reed: looks like it

Temperance: That's good... I'm glad it's working.

So you have the one still menacing you

the rest are retreating down that other passageway

Levi Reed attacks Swashbuckler Skeleton 5 with his Machete moderately wounding it.

MeLange tries to hit Swashbuckler Skeleton 5 with his Battle Axe but misses.

Vee spots that these are all swashbucklers... so former pirates

Vee Barlett attacks Swashbuckler Skeleton 5 with her Trident heavily wounding it.

He is guarding the other fork of the passage

Vee Barlett tries to hit Swashbuckler Skeleton 5 with her Trident but misses.

Vee does not spot anything

Vee Barlett: Nothin' so let's go follow the rest of 'em.

Temperance: Alright. Follow them down we go.

Ruffus and Vee are in the dark, alone, quiet away

and Temp joins them

and Mel runs back to Levi

as Zora picks up the perfect femur bone to use as a club

MeLange: Hey Skeletons, I got a bone you can pick!

Vee Barlett: Tempe, scootch carefully around the corner, yeah? So the light shines around it.

Vee Barlett: But keep to the wall so we can get past ya.

Temperance: Alright. Carefully around the corner, against the wall...

Temperance: scooches around them towards the right side of the wall.

Inv Zora Polasis: Let's go

Inv Zora Polasis: The others are leaving us

The 11 WERE turned.... until you went after them and cornered them

Levi, Mel and now Zora following behind

Around the other wall is Vee, Ruffus and Temp

Vee Barlett: But there another tunnel so maybe it open in the back?

MeLange: very possible

Vee Barlett: That how caves work? I dunno but worth lookin' yeah?

Temperance: There's another pathway behind me, I think.

Vee Barlett: But if we see more skeletons, gonna need ya to heal me up, Tempe. Feelin' a lil' sore but I can keep goin' fine for now.

Temperance: scooches back a little more to make room for others.

Levi Reed walks into a small chamber.

This small chamber has clearly been ransacked long ago. The crates, burlap sacks, and barrels that fill the room have been opened, ripped-open, and upturned so that their contents spill out onto the ground. Rotting clothes and blankets, stained rugs, shattered grog bottles, and a variety of weapons cover most of the floor space.

Levi Reed: Buncha garbage, it looks like

Temperance: scooching around trying to find the best place to shine the light.

Vee Barlett: tries to get to the front

Temperance: scooches over to let people in.

Except for a layer of dust, the room beyond hardly looks as though decades have passed since it was sealed. The furniture is all in its place. A stove sits ready to warm the teakettle sitting on its top, and a bunk appears to await the imminent return of its owner. At the foot of the bunk is a sea-chest, and beyond is a large desk topped with maps and souvenirs from exotic lands.

Sitting behind the desk, draped over the mahogany surface, is the mummified remains of the “Voodoo Witch of Jilanth.” Her skin has turned grey as her body dried out, and it appears as brittle as paper.

Levi Reed: spooky

Temperance: Well... that's... interesting.

As you enter the room the chair scrapes across the floor and she rises up from the chair and points to the group
