The water-filled fissure finally empties into a smooth spherical chamber at least 50 feet in diameter. Your attention is caught immediately by the transition between the rough, broken walls of the fissure and the obviously artificial greenish tiles which cover every surface of the sphere; the recent seaquake has apparently unearthed chambers buried so deeply in the earth that it is difficult to even estimate how long ago it must have been constructed! In a few places, the tile is rippled or missing, possibly damaged by the subtle movements of the earth over time. Besides the fissure, two 1O-foot-diameter circular shafts access the chamber, one to what you think is the north and the other to the south.
