Birthday Game 2021 - Summary
Session: 20210917c
Executive decision. Since birthday game was a continuation of this session, I'm putting the summary for this session on this summary page. The summary writer has spoken.
- It all started at a morning meeting before an upcoming ceremony to celebrate the completion of the road. Would we get through this meeting quick enough to enjoy the feast Jilly was preparing? Of course not.
- Mayor Charlotte and Hornbeak Orthaginal tell Branwyn of a little problem they ran into near the Gnome Mining Village. You see, Bran (not to be confused with Branwyn) uncovered something he apparently wasn't supposed to uncover (not that the gnomes actually stopped them, just warned them, then handed the problem off elsewhere). Anyone up to rescuing Bran from potential goblins, lions, and who else knows what? At the very least, we need to see what's there to make sure the villages and people crossing the road will be safe.
- When you say lions, do you mean lion lions or lions with the head of a man? You know, like Gerry told us about? They roamed these lands back in his day? Way, way back in the day? Only one way to find out!
- It should be mentioned Bran (not Branwyn) is the one who told us about the fire-breathing goat that ended up being neither. So yeah. This'll be interesting.
- The drainage ditch that accidentally uncovered the goblins and lions was closed in so we'll have to go via surface side. Also these are likely the same goblin tribe that tried to kidnap Brer long ago, attempted to trade him for Raelynn, and nearly decapitated Howard. No guarantees we'll let the goblins off with a minor warning.
- Also Hornbeak's help? Bixi. She's a gnome from a nearby village. He knows her village. Offering her already offered help is helping! He's definitely not a useless gnome or anything and has made some quick easy friends with his attitude!
- At least after all of this there is an abandoned wizard tower in the middle of the wastes we can explore? Certainly not foreshadowing. Anyways, to the goblins! With a dash of name contemplating and therapy.
- As we need, we see a person up ahead. Wait, no. We see something that looks like a person, but is not moving. Dead or decoy? An attempt at an ambush, at least. A few spot bushes moving and hear goblins trying to be quiet. How do we spring it to our advantage? By walking right into it. But prepared, honest!
- Indigo gets pushed to the ground by the goblins. While he makes his save, he's forced to hack and slash while on his back. He fights back (ha) pretty well all considered. Between him, Talwin adding his sword, N'laea adding her bow, Snee adding her hammer, Craigh adding his... lasso? attempts, and the goblins failing and running away, we survive the ambush with minor issue. Unfortunately, a few of the goblins survived, too.
- The thing not moving? Just the clothing of Hicks who had been standing guard. Clearly not standing guard now. A bit of tracking and we find ourselves to the secret back door of the goblin caves which brings us to....
Quotes of the Night
[Master] Horse or mule or cow to pull the wagon?
[N'laea (Carissa)] (...fire breathing goat!)
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] What's with YOUR name?
[Mayor Charlotte (Master)] Charlotte? it is a good old fashioned name
[Mayor Charlotte (Master)] My mother said it was about someone who was wise with words
[Indigo (Lisa)] (does she look like a spider?)
[Talwin (Michael)] (Talwin hopping in place, waiting his turn to and doing the ancy pantsy dance)
[Indigo (Lisa)] (and Talwin should have gone before we left)
Session: 20210918c
Birthday Game! And limited attention span for summary. Let's see how this goes...
- Goblins from last night we track to their cave. Arrow slits pointed at us, a hidden door in an archway, and a door opened from the inside by sticking your hand through a hole. We're off to a great start!
- Emerald decides to brave the potential arrows to the knee. With Indigo throwing a rock to knock, and her hopefully safe enough, the goblins answer and... want meat or slaves. You can't eat metal! Well, you can, but it'll break your teeth, constipate you, or kill you. Overall very unfulfilling and not recommended by your doctor (or at least in that form; technically things like sodium and zinc are metals and those are essential for survival!).
- When negotiations don't go as planned, you can always use explosives. I mean, maybe not applicable to real-life (don't do that), but here? Yeah, it's fine.
- We who are taller than a goblin, halfling, and gnome have to crawl through the cave. There is a ledge. Branwyn asks N'laea to look, N'laea asks Indigo to hide the light for a minute, the goblins attempts to surprise us when it is dark. None of us are surprised, but the goblins? They dead now.
- There are three passages: a ledge with a drop, a slope, and... another slope. Or something. Anyways, before we can debate which way to go, some goblins jump out of a room and attack us. They dead now, too. And we got free food out of it! Not eating them, but, you know, some lunch or something they hid under some sacks in the room. Anyone want some of the remaining ham on a bone? You can wash it down with hunks of bread!
- We move along, debate paths, all paths converge, and come upon walkways. Rope bridges? Creaking? Ambush waiting? Why do we hear roaring and commanding non-goblin voices in the distances? Is someone else in charge of these goblins? And how endlessly deep is the pit below?
- We decide to let the others take a break while N'laea scouts as gas down the pit. She's not really good at it. Paints herself into a corner, doesn't explore all the twists and turns, gets out early, let's the (redacted) know something was down there. You know, all the things scouts aren't supposed to do? Oh, and forgot to count how many (redacted) she saw while there because she was too worried about being trapped down there with (redacted) so she got out before the potion wore off.
- Meanwhile, things try to come up. Indigo rushes over to slice the pulley system. He succeeds, it crashes down, we hear a roar, and kLoOgE crashes as well.
- N'laea returns to the top, on the other side, gets attacked. She yells loud enough for the others to find her and help her kill those goblins.
Things happened. I'll have to update later. They explore the room behind them, find extra cables , ropes, and pullies. some rope is taken with them. There are extra cages nearby, too. In conclusion: only way down is to take the pullyvator.- After things happen, Talwin kills Manticore while Indigo, Emerald, and Bixi take out the Hobgoblins. Or maybe they all hit the same things. Either way, things are dead downstairs now.
- A manticore accuses us of killer her son, throws some spikes, and flies off.
- We all go downstairs where way too many hobgoblins are waiting for us. Did you know they're illusions? Most of us didn't until the end.
- Manticore mom gets blinded, near death, offered a chance to yield, attempts to rip off Branwyn's face instead, then is killed.
- What three magic items and scroll did we find along with all those platinum pieces? We'll find out next Friday. Goodnight and Happy Birthday, Bob!
Quotes of the Night
[Master] for the arrow slits picture a normal door in your house, each corner has a slot for things to shoot out, and where the door handle would be is a hole to put your hand in
[Indigo (Lisa)] (then picture yourself going to Home Depot and buying a new door)
[Raelynn (Carissa)] N'laea: Tracking check: (d20) [1d20=13] 13 - ROLL SUCCEEDED against 17!!
[Emerald (Lara)] (i'm confused are Nlaea and Raelynn two entities in the same body?)
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Branwyn: Attack: Magic Dagger: ((17-(d20+0))+1) [1d20=20] -2 [MODIFIED (+1)]. HITS Goblin #12 (AC FINAL: 6)!!! [CRITICAL HIT_(Roll Again)_]
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Branwyn: Attack: Magic Dagger: ((17-(d20+0))+1) [1d20=20] -2 [MODIFIED (+1)]. HITS Goblin #12 (AC FINAL: 6)!!! [CRITICAL HIT_(Roll Again)_]
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Branwyn: Attack: Magic Dagger: ((17-(d20+0))+1) [1d20=15] 3 [MODIFIED (+1)]. HITS Goblin #12 (AC FINAL: 6)!!!
[Master] WOW
[Master] she is pissed
[Michael] Jeeze. Bates with the Knife up in here
[Lanek (Spring)] all of this looks like a bad plan
[Indigo (Lisa)] What plan?
Lanek (Spring) gestures to the entire landscape ahead
Master] You found the secret back door
[Lisa] (if Red Cloak is running a goblin slave mining operation I will be pissed off)
[Talwin (Michael)] Bob I can honestly say I have no idea what the problem is and how we should solve it
[Talwin (Michael)] Cuas I have only a vague notion of what we are learning here :)
[Craigh (TMO)] (that's the problem, Michael. And the solution is to get Bob monologuing)
[Spring] we keep trying to not genocide the goblins but they make it hard
[Branwyn (Lisa)] (someone could jump and Branwyn would save them)
[Craigh (TMO)] (I don't think anyone would assume this was possible unless Bran set it up in advance. ;) )
[Carissa] (talk about trust fall)
[Craigh (TMO)] (I'mma just gonna jump off a 200' drop and assume Branwyn will save me. :) )
[Carissa] (team building!)
[Craigh (TMO)] (I don't trust my team that much)
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (Lol, so we are following Talwin now? For some reason that worries me... might be because of his desire to murder millions of goblins but who can say for sure...)
[Master] Talwin is leading you into goblin carnage
[Talwin (Michael)] Can you describe the Carnage? What killed all of them?
Master points to your group
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (Lol, Michael, I think he means YOU are causing the carnage)
[Talwin (Michael)] Uh bbo. Which is it?
[Master] all the dead goblins that you left behind
[Talwin (Michael)] Jesus. Did I go in a cricle
[Master] It was a joking reference to Talwin being in charge and leading the group to go cause more carnage amongst the goblins
[Talwin (Michael)] At this point I do want to cause CARNAGE LOL
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (And here I thought I would finally have a good reason to use a fancy spell lol)
[Lanek (Spring)] plainly aint needed here
[Talwin (Michael)] (You do have a fancy reason. Heal my sorrey ass)
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (That's not fancy, that's just normal)
[Carissa] (his ass or your spell?)
[Lanek (Spring)] (Lanek don't heal nothing)
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (both)
[Master] and there is zero cover here
[Craigh (TMO)] (not true! there are dead bodies on the ground, incuding a manticore)
[Talwin (Michael)] (crawl in the Manticore for warmth and cover TMO)
[Master] And I thought they smelled bad on the outside
[Howard Plum (Lisa)] (find Bran and naked Hick)
[Howard Plum (Lisa)] (we should have brought his clothes)
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (He can wear manticore on the way out)
[Snezana (Spring)] if he comes back alive, his friends will call him Naked Hick forever
[Indigo (Lisa)] (he really has no place to go - bob said no cover)
[Master] only behind the dead child
[Craigh (TMO)] (targeting is how the game handles asking a swing at someone - being blind should give it penalties to hit, but can still target)
[Raelynn (Carissa)] (blindness is lovely)
[Craigh (TMO)] Craigh: Attack: Lasso: ((18-(d20-1))-2) [1d20=14] 3 [MODIFIED (-2)]. HITS Manticore #2 (AC FINAL: 4)!!!
[Craigh (TMO)] (eeeeeeeeeeee!)
[Craigh (TMO)] (now, how the hell does this thing work again?)
[Master] LOL
[Master] LOL
[Bixi Fizzlebang (Lemon)] (Is it a lasso of truth!?)
[Master] LOL
[Master] oh man
[N'laea (Carissa)] (uh oh, did we break Bob?)
[Master] No
[Howard Plum (Lisa)] (I hope so)
[N'laea (Carissa)] (LOL)
[Howard Plum (Lisa)] (drat)
[N'laea (Carissa)] (so close)
[Branwyn (Lisa)] I don't know what you are doing down here, but I cannot have you take the gnomes and humans who live in the villages of the wastes. It is our land now. Hiding below the surface you cannot rule the lands above.
[Manticore #2 (Master)] Then I will take them back
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Then you shall lose
[Master] Manticore #2: Attack: Claw: (12-(d20+0)) [1d20=20] -8. HITS Branwyn (AC FINAL: 6)!!! [CRITICAL HIT_(Roll Again)_]

Branwyn (Lisa) smiles
[N'laea (Carissa)] Then you must be gone.
