Book Marked - In Character Conversations

6/23 TMO

I had quite honestly completely forgotten about this conversation.

[from the 7-15-2016 Chat Log]

[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] last night there were twelve red scrolls, this morning there was four
Branwyn (Lisa) sighs, So how many total?
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] I have decided to inventory my office
Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master) shakes his head
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] no that is what I mean. Last night there were supposed to be 5, but there were 12. This morning instead of 12 there were 4
[Branwyn (Lisa)] That is interesting
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] I want to take the morning to lay out everything in my office and see which ones have which and then see which ones change. I am not quite used to the level of magic that you have brought to the household
[Branwyn (Lisa)] How very scientific of you. Good idea.
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] but I am seeing that it will take some experimenting
Ilero (TMO)] Good time to leave town for few days, hye t'ink.
[Branwyn (Lisa)] You could put little tags near them or on them
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] The tags I put on are the things that change. The ribbons.
[Branwyn (Lisa)] I meant little parchment tags next to the scrolls with the ribbons
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] I have given some thought to what Jennevive said
[Branwyn (Lisa)] so if you marked one black and came back an hour later and it was red you would know which ones
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] and I am beginning to suspect that what is happening is that the scrolls themselves are changing. But what happens to the ones that changed? One from the Mages Guild I would mark.
[Branwyn (Lisa)] So I am missing potentially important correspondence?
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] But one from the Silver family comes marked
Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master) nods sagely
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Demons have hijacked my mail
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] I am suspecting that perhaps that is part of it
Marisu (TMO)] So you think it's replacing real scrolls, not creating new ones in the basket?
[Branwyn (Lisa)] That is even more annoying than hellhounds
[Phillipe Gaston Enquire (Master)] scrolls that you do not want to see filling up your basket
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] That fits. I do believe now that it is a Demon, but all the effects we have seen are from the Hells
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Did you learn anything while we were away?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] That was my working plan, but if they are switching out scrolls
[Branwyn (Lisa)] But we knew it was a demon all along didn't we?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] it confirms
[Branwyn (Lisa)] demons like to mess with the mail?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] the demon is from the abyss and thrives on chaos, but the name seems to be from a foreign land, not in our language. I believe it is from the far eastern lands
[Branwyn (Lisa)] what are the odds that we may receive a scroll with a guest inside it who can speak with us?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] I suspect that a demon has been sent to hell for a reason and he is trying to get out. He needs his book that is here in the library. We will need to find the reason he is in Hell, where in Hell he is, and how or if we should return his book. I would like to know what happens when he gets his book back before giving it to him.
Shurkural (TMO)] We … We're going to take a book to Hell?
[Branwyn (Lisa)] He promises to stop destroying our correspondence?
[Shurkural]] (TMO) is looking at Jennevieve and Branwyn with a clear 'Are you nuts?' look on her face.
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] The scrolls might be an attempt to communicate
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Through fire and cursed wands? There are better ways
Shurkural (TMO)] And hellhounds!
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] I am not sure he knows where the book is
Shurkural (TMO)] Don't forget the hellhounds!
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] or who has it
Branwyn (Lisa) laughs
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] so those might be welcome advances to a Devil. Gifts so to speak
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] (and pauses as everyone digests that bit, grins )
[Branwyn (Lisa)] What would be welcome advances?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] The scrolls the Demon has sent
[Branwyn (Lisa)] But do you think there is a chance that one of these scrolls will contain any form of communication other than attempts at mass destruction?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] Demons thrive on chaos and destruction. They do not think like us
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Yes but it is not an effective way to get their book back
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] from humans true
[Branwyn (Lisa)] If he did kill me he would never get it back. What would be the point in that? I thought this was a hunt. Like a sport
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] Perhaps he does not consider that someone so fragile could have controlled his book?
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Who's fragile?
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] Humans are not often found on the paths of Hell
[Ilero]] (TMO) raises his hand.
[Aunt Jennevive (Master)] It is rather a shame we decided to remove the Abbot of Hades from our midst
Aunt Jennevive (Master) looks at Ilero
Ilero (TMO)] Hye very fragile.

21-10-1266 TGR - After Hellhound attack

Branwyn slipped lower into the water and leaned her head back against Lord Branadarus’ chest. Sighing peacefully she said, “A bath was a very nice idea. Kenna can heal our wounds most masterfully, but it doesn’t seem to get the scorched, burnt smell off a person, does it? Thank you for your help this morning. That was the worst scroll we’ve seen so far and I was caught quite off guard. It doesn’t help to fight off these demonic creatures if I can’t cast, and it puts far too large a burden on the others if I cannot help. But, I’ve been thinking about that and I have an idea. An idea that will allow me to get at least one spell cast. My spell that conjures jaws that will rip flesh from bones only needs my concentration to cast it and then again only if I wish to redirect them. The trouble is finding the time to bring them forth in the first place in the middle of being attacked.’

‘But what if I was not the one to open the scroll? If I could conjure a force to open the scroll by itself while we hid, then that might buy me the time I need. It might help a bit. We could even put the scroll in the fountain so it would be in the water before we opened it. I wonder if the demons would even be unleashed if an innocent opened the scroll. Would they start killing everyone in sight or simply move past them looking for me? There are so many questions that I am not sure we will find the answers to unless we try. I know this is extremely dangerous, but I can’t help find it somewhat fascinating at the same time. I am quite horrible in that way. Always seeming to get myself in trouble for my own amusement.”

Lord Branadarus wrapped his arms around Branwyn with a warm chuckle. "If this is the reaction I get from a few hell hounds I can't wait to encounter a dragon with you." Feeling Branwyn stiffen at that he squeezed a bit tighter, "Later you can tell me who, right now enjoy the warmth."

Letting Branwyn slip down a bit more he continued on distracted, "I am not familiar with all the ways of magic. I would hazard a guess that you are correct in you have to open the scrolls or any random person on the street might be conjuring a new dangerous pet. Can you cast this ripping flesh jaws spell on anything? I have heard the mages laughing about being told to cast magic missile at the darkness! I do understand enough to know you need a target for most spells."

Branadarus quieted for a moment thinking. "Why did you not want to follow Aunt Jennevive's advice about jumping in the fountain? You like the water enough it seems....." he said with a quick chuckle and with a quick PUSH he dunked Branwyn's head back under the water in the huge pool of a bathtub.

Branwyn stayed beneath the water for a few moments before re-emerging to the surface. She ran her hands through her hair and then resettled herself nestled up against Lord Branadarus. “Thank you, I enjoy water very much. Warm water here. Not the freezing water of the fountain in winter. But that is not why I did not go in. By the time, I understood what Jennevive was calling out about, the hell hounds had pretty much resorted to biting rather than shooting flames, and Anton was quite heavily wounded fighting that hound by himself. If I moved towards it, it would begin attacking me. I hoped that you would follow and assist. I could not run away when others were injured and still fighting.’

“And yes,” she continued. “Most of the time you need a target to cast upon. The jaws I can conjure only can affect living flesh. I cannot use them to prune the hedgerow. But if I could create a cloud of noxious gas for instance, I could cast it upon an area and anyone who walked into it would feel the effects of such. It just depends on the spell. I am hoping that because the force I send to open the scroll is connected to me and that I shall not be far away, it will work. I suppose we shall find out when we start this all over again tomorrow.”

"Well then we have two more scrolls to open right? Let's go get started."

Branwyn laughed. “Philippe may have been right about you. You are only interested in me for the adventure that follows me. No, we shall open scrolls tomorrow. Anton is most likely shopping for weapons right now and Kenna is quite spent. Anyone who gets injured would need to be put to bed hurt until the next morning if Seremella doesn’t return. The elves seem to be a cautious lot. I need to adjust to that,” she said sighing as she thought about it. “Ellenara needs to spend some time learning new spells or she shall never feel ready to join in any confrontations we encounter. And Seremella asked me what she should do and I did not give her explicit instructions. I feel that people should be in touch with their skills and spells and should use their best judgment, but perhaps I shall need to provide more direction in the future. Tomorrow would be best for scrolls. But I do think we should start thinking about leaving the bath. The water is beginning to cool.”
