Castle
Just one of my new favorite shows, so please watch or if my record is any proof, it will not last more than one season.
I just watched the first episode of the new crime drama “Castle”. While you can read the concept on the shows website, here is my rather personal perspective.
I watched the first episode only because I like the star, Nathan Fillion, from Firefly/ Serenity and a nice little role on the last season of Buff the Vampire Slayer. he was also the star of about seven episodes of a cross county race series, think Cannonball run on TV, that just did not find an audience. From his other works, you may realize that crime drama is not my normal genre, and certainly not the actors, though he had played parts on other shows. He is a great character actor and can play the same character as a swashbuckling space pilot/mercenary, an supernatural preacher from hell or a race car driver, and now a mystery writer. I am not saying he is not skilled, just that his dynamic persona comes through and he plays to his strengths. In a few ways, I have to compare him and his new show to David Boreanaz and his hit Bones. Both are handsome men who got their starts in sci-fi, touch guy roles (do I have to say “Angel”) and both have gotten to more mainstream shows with strong female counterparts. I see Castle doing as well as Bones as long as it gets a fair chance. It is different enough of a crime drama and personally, I am really taken by a crime show from a writer’s point of view.
I saw a note this weekend that this got picked up for a second season, might be a rumor but is hopeful for you at least!
Still one of my favorite shows of all time, probably second behind House for non sci-fi show.
