Conversation between Rose & Paul
Paul (In Character)
While I appreciate your information, it should more like an issue with your family then mine. Maybe you need to tell me more but now is not the time. If you feel you need to deal with this now, there is only one I trust to go with you and handle this delicate situation, but he may be more of an issue than assistance. My trusted friend Khan is in Roadhaven, in the stone buildings or the tavern. Tell him I sent him to you. I must be off.
(Out of character) You should be able to get to Roadhaven through the pool before the rest leave. Let me know if you want to say or do anything else before we jump to the encounter with Khan
(This was my way of role playing Paul, trying to talk down to the little people. Paul really does not like being called Sir Paul and Rose did from day one. Also out of character, I wanted to get Khan involved in case Paul was needed else where)
-- (This is Molly's introduction to the story, as it was in the e-mail, it was started in the middle of the Illithid story line (Insert link here))
- watches as the Dragonslayers leave, then turns to Sir Paul.
- :
I need to speak with you, Sir Paul.
- eyes the others around him
- :
Alone, please.
- waits for the others to leave
- :
The Dragonslayers know me as Rosethorn. My full name is Esmeralda Rosepina Thumoleonas Magnus. I come from a group of elves known as the Guejedas, some two weeks journey north of here. Their leader, Alsatius, is my father.
- sighs and rubs forehead
- :
Contrary to what the Dragonslayers may have thought, I didn't walk into their tavern in Roadhaven ten days ago on a whim. My people have known about Enoch and the Pieuvredoue, or the Illithids , as you humans call them, for some time now. I came looking for the DragonSlayers deliberately.
- eyes Sir Paul
- :
Enoch is the fourth in his family line to align himself with the Illithid. I know this because I've slain or helped kill his father, Oswalt, when Enoch was still in his mother's womb, and before that, his grandfather, Chastain, and great-grandfather, Ulrich, the instigator of all this. Whether Enoch was enthralled by them, or joined them willingly, I don't know, and don't much care.
- shrugs
- :
I doubt his victims would care much either. We believe he was using his townspeople as guinea pigs for his experiments. The spells he had that I saw were almost identical to the ones his grandfather, Chastain, used. As I understand those, they were basically a form of human alchemy, designed to turn humans into Pieuvredoue. The original spells were destroyed long ago. How Enoch got copies of them is a mystery to me.
- sighs
- :
The allied Elves, including the Guejedas, the Anasari, who live in this area, the Kagonesti, who live to the south, and the Carnachs, who are in the far northern territories around Stormport, have been keeping an eye on the humans around Stormport and other trouble spots for more than a century now. As I told Ramone, we've known the Illithid have been planning something for quite a while now. They wouldn't keep coming back otherwise. We have reason to believe that whatever plan they're devising is coming to a head. There were more Pieuvredoue this time around than in previous encounters. I was sent to stop Enoch, and to do my best to ensure a minimum of human casualties, while the Elven nations gather to prepare for a probable war against the Pieuvredoue.
- rubs forehead, then eyes Sir Paul
- :
Which leads me to my lovely, erstwhile stepmother. When the Dragonslayers were first here a few days ago, you may have noticed I came in a bit late?
- waits for his nod
- :
I was meeting with a few Anasari, encamped not far from here. Among other things, they told me that they'd seen four to five humans meet up with a Drow woman several times in the woods not far from here a few days previously. They recognized the humans as living in and around Gon, so I presume they would be loyal to you, Sir Paul. They weren't able to recognize the Drow woman, as she was heavily disguised at the time. They told me about these meetings they had witnessed, and left it up to me to inform the local human constabulary
- nods at Sir Paul
- :
namely, you. When I arrived at the tavern, I was able to instantly recognize who the Drow was because of my past association with Myrtle. Her essence on you and Kit was very faint, which told me that you two had not had direct contact with her, but rather someone you had been in close contact with.
- eyes Sir Paul
- :
Myrtle is a traitor to the Elven nations, and is responsible for the deaths of two highly respected Elder elves, as well as more than a dozen humans. We have reason to believe she knows at least something about what the Pieuvredoue have planned. Whether you choose to believe me or not, Myrtle is a threat to you and to your people. Will you help me find her and her associates?
- sits back and waits
- :
-- (Paul in character)
Whoa.
- lets head stop spinning
- :
Let's pretend I have not been with the DragonSlayers for this whole adventure, because I have not.
Let's pretend I am not good with names, which I'm not and lets pretend don't know you, because truly I do not.
If I understand you, Enock is a human leader in Stormport? If that is so then someone will still have to deal with him.
There was a Drow woman walking around in Gon? While I was here? I find that hard to believe and lastly.
Are you trying to say Myrtle is your step mother is this Drow? If that is so then surely you state the obvious, all Drow are the evil twins to all other Elves and are a threat to anyone who lives on the surface, what they consider their roof.
If this is all as I understand, then everything else can wait.
No, Wait, let me go tell my wife.
(out of character) This is much more then I expected. I was trying so hard Friday to find an area North of Stormport to "pool" too. Now we find out there are Elves already aware of the situation. The DS should have started there.
-- Rose:
- watches Sir Paul carefully upon his return
- :
I hope your wife took the news reasonably well.
- sighs and rubs forehead again
- :
Enoch was the local nobleman of Stormport, as you are, here in Elvenshire. He was slain several days ago by our Dragonslayer allies and I, so he is no longer a problem. There is a sheriff back in Stormport who remains a bit of a problem, but he can be taken care of by either the Dragonslayers or my people at a later point in time. The Guejada believe that the Illithids' plans are coming to a head. Their presence has progressively been getting stronger and more dangerous over the years, until this latest encounter. Your people, though powerful, are few. The Elven Nations wish to spare as much human suffering as possible. When the Illithids' plans are more well-known, the Elven Nations will join your human army to fight them.
- eyes Sir Paul
- :
Myrtle is a touchy subject with the Guejada, as Kit probably is with some of your people. My father, Alsatius, was devastated when my mother died, and their bond was broken. He spent more than a century trying to recover from her loss.
- looks away, lost in memories
- :
Myrtle is half-Drow, half-Ghiaccia, or arctic Elf, as humans call them. She's a master at enchanting people and disguising herself. She's beautiful on the outside, but deadly underneath the skin.
- looks back at Sir Paul, steel in her gaze
- :
When she met my father, his melancholy vanished. He was a new man, and the entire Guejada nation was grateful to Myrtle. Though they did not bond, she was made his honorary queen, in effect making her my stepmother, as you humans would put it. Shortly after, her treachery began. My people faced surprise attacks from the Orc, the Drow, and the Grey Dwarves, all within a short time. Spells that she cast that were supposed to protect or heal my people were either nullified or reversed, making the recipients vulnerable, or worse. A short time later, my people faced our second encounter with the Pieuvredoue and Enoch's grandfather, Chastain. During the battle, I was severely wounded. Myrtle was supposed to cast a healing spell on me. Instead, she reversed it, turning it into a curse.
- brushes the hair away from the left side of her face and neck, revealing a criss-crossing of scars traveling down her lower face, neck, and shoulder, and disappearing beneath her tunic
- :
This is her handiwork, Sir Paul. It's not pretty, and it burns like hell. It also bears her essence, and lets me know when she, or someone she has met, is nearby. The closer the contact, the more it hurts.
- covers up scars again and sighs tiredly
- :
My people discovered her ultimate betrayal when she stole the spell book we recovered from Chastain, Enoch's grandfather, and tried to recreate some of the spells in it. Her deceit was discovered before she could do so, thank Corellon Larethian, and she was exposed for the traitor she is. She fled Guejada lands before her death sentence could be carried through, and we've been looking for her ever since.
- looks at Sir Paul, her eyes very old
- :
As to why your people haven't noticed her before now, I can offer a couple of theories. Myrtle is half-Drow, and your people are used to seeing half-Drow in this area. As I said, Myrtle is a beautiful woman, and an expert at seducing and enchanting people. It would not be hard for her to go unnoticed around here, especially if she does not want to be found. She knows that going into Guejada lands is foolhardy at best, but this is Anasari territory, so she is not as well-known here. Even so, I'm betting that whatever her goal is, it is very important to her, or she wouldn't be this close to Guejada country. I'm also willing to bet that that goal has something to do with you, since you're one of the most powerful wizards in this area.
- sits back and waits
