Desperate Old Men - In Character Discussions
Hoffman speaks up: "I do not want to step on anyone's toes. I know my place now is more muscle, while I believe I am in the right place and time, I will leave that talk to QuiFon but I do believe we should enter from two different gates from the very begining. If not for Sir Indigo's fame, I would say all the ...er.. um members of our party that do not walk as fast travel separate so we may arrive a day apart. Maybe the best way to seperate is who will be the most distracting, QuiFon to travel with Indigo and Branwyn while I travel with.." ::looks at party:: "Who does not stand out?"
A few minutes prior to Hoffman speaking another conversation was occuring in the back of the room.
As Branwyn sat on the floor of their room worrying and reading the same sentence of her book over and over, Indigo came over and sat on the nearest bed and looked down at her. “You know you can’t put this off any longer. You’re going to have to come up with something.”
She snapped the book shut and looked up at Indigo, “You know I’m no good at thinking up elaborate plans. If the others don’t come up with anything, we’ll just go in like we usually do and make it up as we go along. We’ll figure it out. “
“I’m not talking about that,” Indigo laughed. “We’ll find Mina Mosskin. One way or the other. I was talking about your title. It was fine when we were at Jistelle. Everyone knows you there and it wasn’t a big deal. But now you are probably going to be introduced to the Count Vilmar and presented with the Mosskins at the coronation as what?” Indigo coughs, deepens his voice and pretends to be Medoro acting as herald. “Introducing Branwyn the Nothing, Court Mage of the Mosskins!”
Branwyn throws her book at Indigo, who while laughing at his joke, manages to dodge the projectile and watches as it flies across the room hitting no one and landing on the floor. “You really need to practice a bit more if you expect to hit people when you really want to,” he said, “and you have to think of a name. You don’t want to embarrass the Mosskins. Yullote had a name. Even Histille had a name. You have to think of something. How about Branwyn the Stupendous? Or Branwyn the Colossal?”
Grimacing she replied, “That makes it seem like I’m this huge monstrosity. No.”
“Well, what about B words. Belligerent? No… that doesn’t sound good. Brilliant?”
“But I’m not brilliant!” she said in total exasperation. “If I was so brilliant, I’d be at that table explaining my ingenious plan to rescue Mina and deliver her on time to the coronation. Instead I’m sitting in a corner trying to read but really just worrying about all of us, hoping that we can get through this without anyone landing in the Vilmar dungeons, or worse. Don’t get me wrong. I love being able to do what I do, but I hate all this damned mage arrogance that is expected to go with it. It’s really easy to think you are brilliant sitting in a tower all day. It’s another to actually have to be brilliant in the real world.”
Indigo’s voice softened and he threw up his hands. “Okay. Okay. I know. I’m just trying to help. But you will get asked. Very soon. And it won’t be by Medoro who you can easily brush aside. I just don’t want you to get caught off guard.”
Branwyn sighed. “I know and I’m grateful that you are thinking about me. It’s just nothing sounds right and I will hate anything that gets chosen.” Thinks for a second. “How about Mysterious? That will work and doesn’t sound too pretentious.”
“Branwyn? Ummm, don’t take this the wrong way, but you really aren’t very mysterious.”
This time it was her turn to laugh. “Of course I’m not. But that would be the whole mystery of it. I don’t look or act mysterious so there must be something really mysterious that they aren’t seeing, which would be kind of mysterious in and of itself. Right?”
“Or they just think the name is stupid,” he says ducking behind a pillow in case she decides to throw something else.
Branwyn stood up, heard Hoffman talking about splitting up upon entering the citadel and replied, “Who doesn’t stand out? Miranda and you that’s all. The rest of us stick out like sore thumbs.” As Indigo let the pillow drop, Branwyn quickly picked it up and smacked Indigo in the head with it and then walked over to Hoffman. “What exactly did you have in mind?”
Well... I was just thinking. Who would be in the second group, it still is the plan?
For ease of plots and schemes (which are the same things GoT reference) I think we should group the characters into teams. Of course people will add and drop as we got but this starts us off with something.
Team L - Branwyn, Heckat, Sarengar, Team C - Qui, Hoffman, Team G - Indigo, Foto, Team I - Ilero, Llath, Koorin,
Team I is the independent people who are out investigating and finding what every they can. Team G is starting their investigation by gambling. Team C is (you guessed it) going to start at the Church and Team L is going to find a way to be invited into the Lords manor house.
