The Loredan family is one of the oldest in the city of Rivers Bend and is one of the founding members of the Council. Giving themselves the title of Prince rather than King was supposed to show that no one family should dominate the cities politics. That has worked to a large degree if one ignores the fact that the family has the largest estate of the city under their control. The Palace District? consists of six islands along with the only set of walls inside of the city.
The family attempts to stay out of the internal politics of the city and instead runs the University at Rivers Bend. The Prince has always held the traditional role of Chancellor of the University although many over the years have left the actual running of the University to the Chairman of the University which is appointed by the Prince.
