[Fritz] My plan at this point is for Val and Mentor to drink their potions. Increasing Val to an 8th level fighter and allowing Mentor to have the "physical" powers of a vampire (gas form, climb walls, regeneration only). Rave will lower Paul, and either physically attack the Beholder with a poisoned sword or try and hurl him with telekinesis into the green slime

[Fritz] That is round 1...what happens after that depends on (as Guy would say) "luck of the rolls"
[Kaz] Liam and Finglas can both shoot arrows at the Beholder
[Kaz] which is the only threat that we have seen so far
[Hansie] K. There has got to be something in the rocky crags about where you said. Do you know the range of the spell that was cast? What about the range of the spell that got Kira, who is at the top of the slope?
[Fritz] I imagine that both Mentor and Val'Iant would realize it wasn't a ray from the beholder attacking us and look for other assailants down at the bottom.

[Fritz] Correct. So we are looking at either 2 spells 1 being area of effect or 3 spells. All with a potential range of 150 feet
[Guy] how would they realize that when none of us down below know whats happening up top?
[john2] the beholder is 10 ' back from the edge, dependding on how high he is floating, it is going to be hard to see him

[Hansie] Beholders are full of themselves. They would not float at ground level. They would be above their prey. Seeing them would not be difficult. They *want* to be seen, to be feared, to be respected.

[john2] well, you could cast fireball for example at the top of the slope
[Fritz] True about the seeing to "shoot" Kaz. But the ray effect would be like a beacon coming from the top of the scree bathing all of us up there in it's effect. So that you would be able to see.
[Fritz] We dealt with this issue on our first encounter with beholders and Bob verified that

[Hansie (to Guy only)] so he's almost a blue belt. And he's kick-butt, man. That says a lot, because he's a very sensitive and extremely mild child. Compared to my 6-year-old, that is!

He's in the gifted program at his school, but he's a wild man when it comes down to it. Definitely very interesting, but a little intimidating if you know what I mean.
