Priest of Silence
The concept: (Numbers and rules aside) A good priest who hates evil and chaos with an extreme vow of silence. Not really an issue if he stays around the church. But this God still needs His people to spread the Word (or lack of it) and go out and eliminate evil and chaos and noise. What better way then show the benefit and power of silence and to lead by example but to have a permanent silence spell on the priest. He can not make make noise. What a better way to command attention then to have people have to look at you and really think to understand what you are trying to say with gestures. He can move his lips and can communicate with the deaf if they read lips. You might think he would get to a point where he would use telepathy, but that just adds to the noise in the head. Silence is golden, even in one's head. As a priest, he still has to cast spells so all of his spells would have no verbal component. It would have to be a special silence, that would only effect the priest, and the priest would still have to be able to hear as his goal is to eliminate the noise in others; in combat he would have to take on the loudest opponent.
Gaming: This would be the most challenging character to play at the table but in Klooge, it is even more so. Played correctly, the game would take on a whole new level, saying what the priest is signaling. There would be so many times where the priest wold want to get someone's attention and so many different ways to get his point across. A spell caster who can not be silenced and can cast more subtle, can be quite powerful, but less so for a priest depending on the schools. Individual priests would still have room for differences, but I will work out the details for my next character. Unless everyone objects.
I like the concept and it actually works better in Klooge because you can't 'cheat' and mumble something, etc. You could set up some standard phrases of movements that you copy and paste into the chat room, or if you wanted to be super creative create a short video clip that the players can view to see the actions. (takes some planning).
And there is a perfect pantheon for that. Shardik is of the forests, a god of silence would work well there. Also the Suomi might be fitting, they are the northern mountains and forests but not sure if there is a god there that would work.
I think it's a cool idea and would probably be partially frustrating but extremely rewarding to play. The funny (to me) thing about your timing is that I've been playing around with the thought of a mute character, which would be slightly different from your idea but no less fun to roleplay.
I also think it would be fascinating if your priest of silence had a sidekick/henchman/whatever that was blind. How would you deal with that? They can't see your lips move, and you don't make any noise... would be interesting, to say the least.
