Just so everyone has the same basic knowledge and separate fact from fiction, Tranor's Pass does exist and does extend compleatly through the mountain range. Of course it was started by dwarves mining for gold, I understand it was Varton the Second that started the mine as a way to prove himself to mother that thought he had spent too much time with humans. The amount of time spent on the village at the base of the mountain was all the proof his mother needed to disown Varton. But in time, the mine did start to produce ore and not just gold. Before the people of the village even knew it, a fortress was built into the face of the mountain and one of Venton's young traveling companions, a warrior named.. Anybody? That's right Tranor had established a human outpost in the mountain. A lot of interesting things happened over the years that followed, ups and down with the local and greater area but the dwarfs kept digging and with the humans, there was plenty of trade and security to keep the the former outpost, now a thriving community secure, well managed by the balance of Dwarven stubbornness and human desire. As any student of geology will tell you, when mining you follow the vein. Well in this case, the dwarfs found themselves so close tot the other side, it was as much out of necessity that they added a shaft for fresh air and discovered a natural plateau and what would become to be known as Venton's East. By the time the pass was officially open, both Tranor and Venton were dead and their sons and daughters were working together to recover from the war and fierce natural disasters that closed the path for more than three years. By the time it was reopened the secret was out and the world knew the existence of red gold. Within six months, not a human nor dwarf lived in or near the pass. The defenses had always been set to defend against humanoid and giant attacks, but when the dragons attacked from both sides and then used their minions and magic to get past the initial level of defense, the internal road was quickly controled by a trio of dragons. What little we know from the next decades, is more from scrying and other divination but we do know one of the dragons were killed by the other two whom also collapsed the middle of the pass. The mining dried up and our side became just another lair where would be DragonSlayers would go to die and treasure hunters would spend a fortune to be yet another trophy on the wall of skulls. For the last generation, we have been responsible for watching for the next dragon sighting and well we had one. The old girl came out for one last pillage. Maybe we got lucky, maybe years of experience finally worked in our favor or maybe she wanted to go out fighting. It took half the army and even those alive are in no shape to do what must be done. Before anyone knows the dragon is dead, someone must go and see what is left of her minions. We can offer you an Airship to get you there quick and quietly but that means you can not be too heavily armed and you will not be brining back much in the way of treasure but you will be writing yourself into history, one way or another. What do you say DragonSlayers?
