BOB Podman 3 is dead
BOB Podman 4 is barely up
The circumstances are looking quite dire. For one, Melange, one of their viable front-liners, is being dragged off by the pod creatures. For another, both Rothuss—their quick-footed inspiration—and Lirtimya—their sensible strategist—are staggering from their wounds. Even worse still, a podman is touching Vee without consent, Temperance is off nursing the stomach virus that had plagued Vee and Levi a couple hours before, and the rest of the party is not without their scratches and bruises. Still, they decide they’d rather struggle on than leave Melange to face those pimply pod nightmares alone.

Though dazed from the blood leaking from his wounds, Rothuss lurches forward to teach the pod that touching without consent is a clear violation of boundaries. Alas, his wounds slow his movements and blur his line of sight, causing him to pierce the air instead.

Despite desperately wishing the rest of the party would just save themselves, Melange continues to attempt to free himself from the pod tentacles violating his personal space (because, surely, he’s reserving those hugs for Levi should he return in one piece). He has, however, been struggling for quite a while, and his strength isn’t enough to untangle himself. Levi swings his machete at Pod 4 because, gods, he’s certainly tired of repeating the same lesson to these thick-skulled pod creatures. How many times does he have to say DO NOT TOUCH WITHOUT CONSENT, DAMN IT? Alas, the pods simply slither out of the way of his swinging weapon.

Hearing Melange shrieking from the other side renews the bloodlust in Vee, because I’m sure labeling it “protective instincts” would have her cringing. She grips her dagger with the same amount of anger she would have if Matthias pushed her off her own ship and stabs the lights out of Pod 4. It squelches out disgusting pod liquid, leaving her and a teetering Rothuss stinking of rotten fish.

Lirtimya is trying her best to hold her own despite the daze she’s in. She grips her dagger and aims, but her head is spinning from the attack she received earlier. Jericho is throwing rocks, but his frustration and conflicted feelings over whether this move may go against his nonviolent ideals causes him to get distracted from aiming properly. Rothuss, who begins to understand that he’d be in better shape retreating than becoming another pod for the rest of the group to have to deal with, scooches back and throws a rock on the way out. Pod 6 squiggles in pain at the hit.

Both Levi and his machetes are so tired of these pods possessively wanting warm-body attention. They tell Pod 6 to go find a therapist in the pod afterlife and slash through numerous parts of its body. Unfortunately, Pod 6 refuses to leave without a goodbye hug. Vee tells it to just buck up and LEAVE ALREADY because she hates whiners and shanks it with her trusty Trident.

As if intimidated by the frustrated energy of these warm bodies, the pods are losing confidence quite fast. Lirt is attempting to grab the two stone daggers from Vee’s hips because they don’t lie even while she’s fighting, whilst Rothuss and Jericho are having a bloody awesome time stoning Pod 12 for its sins. Pod 12 squelches and shrinks back because the attacks are quickly becoming too personal.

Ratbone, who’s been itching to land a hit on these snot-balls, decides her bagpipes and extra rations aren’t bringing her joy at the moment. After dropping them off her, she grips her club, imagines the face of that ONE FOOL who hurt her feelings and swings with all her might. THUNK, SQUELCH! Both twins wear a satisfied expression as Ratbone wipes pod juice off her face. TAKE THAT, STUPID FRANT.

While the twins revel in satisfaction over Pod 12’s momentary retreat, Melange takes a moment to make sure his ribs aren’t being squeezed. Levi attempts to finish Pod 12 off after Ratbone brings it to a marvelous daze, but his brain is too filled with concern for his Baby being off in the distance to focus. Vee tells him, respectfully, to get it together as she swings her Trident at it, hoping to finish it off to show Levi how it’s actually supposed to be done. Much to her chagrin, Pod 12 bounces out of the way to live another minute with its unhealthy mental mindset.

Midway through the pandemonium, Temperance stumbles back into the fray, finally having calmed the godforsaken nausea. After taking a quick scan of the battlegrounds, she decides Pod 12 has had enough unlawful breathing time and tests her luck on her shortbow. Two out of the three arrows pierce through it, and it releases a small shriek before releasing pod juice on the floor of the cave. Satisfied that the doorway is now clear, the priestess steps back and whispers a habitual prayer. Not that it’s gotten her or this motley crew anywhere great so far, but…best not to lose faith nor composure in a pod’s den, as they say.

By contrast, Melange is definitely beginning to lose faith and tries to share some tearful goodbyes to everyone before he becomes a pod. This kicks Jericho’s empathetic nature into high gear, and he frantically engages in conversation with Vee about who he needs to cast Sanctuary on. Meanwhile, Lirtimya successfully passes the dagger from Vee’s swaying hips to Rothuss. Ratbone sighs and tries to stab it with her knife but struggling with the tentacles and stabbing is harder than it looks. Melange pulls a NO ONE TOUCHES BABY WITHOUT CONSENT move and swings twice. One of them SQUELCHES into pod flesh, and fishy-smelling liquid oozes from open skin. Levi clenches his fists and WHOOSH-SQUISH. Also, her crew is either inexperienced or injured, so… who else is going to do this? Temperance aims as carefully as she can so she doesn’t mess up Vee’s rhythm, and aims for Pod 16. One arrow scratches past the pod, hopefully enough to mess up its rhythm. Lirtimya and Jericho try the same with rocks, but their arm strength is too wobbly for the aim to be accurate.

As Temperance once wrote in her observational notes, affection is a powerful catastrophe. Melange channels this catastrophe against Pod 13, swinging his Battle Axe with surprising precision and SLASHING THROUGH pod flesh. Organs and all fly about in glorious slow motion as he tells the other baby to run. Which probably won’t happen, but hey, good news for the rest of the party: their two muscular frontliners have now bonded over a common enemy AND FREE TO WREAK HAVOC with their renewed baby-bonded energy. Now unhindered by stupid pods, Levi takes multiple slashes at Pod 14 with his machetes. The pod stands no chance and leaks blood and organs onto the floor. A justified price to pay for unlawful, unconsented physical contact.

Now sporting two holes leaking its life liquid, it looks more like a slimy fountain. Vee manages to divert a bit of attention from bloodletting another pod to acknowledge her efforts. Rothuss says EXCUSE YOU, I can do some stabby-stabbing and brings down his main-gauche on the same pod. The pod does not expect the blade to aim for its eye sockets because of Rothuss’ flourishing fake move towards its gut, and it HOWLS as it’s blinded by the SLASH of bright blade.

He sees Pod 16 is still pathetically breathing and nonchalantly sticks out his Battle Axe as he passes it. Battle Axe goes FOR BABY, HECK YEAH and the pod goes ROCK-A-BYE-BYE forever. Vee is calling for the umpteenth time for these idiots to get back behind the door, but this time it’s Ratbone taking her anger out on the already dead Frant-pod. Levi coaxes Ratbone that she’ll find some other way to heal her broken heart and tries to drag her through the door.
