• 20190524c = Exploring Skull Church, Ilero has panic attack after facing the ghoul that nearly trapped and ate him last time.

Day 20 Trall ___ se, Kye {Late Winter} 20th, 348 SKR.

• 20190531c - oilskin-wrapped package found in a hole under a stone tile in Skull Church (TMO/Ilero are not at this session)

  Howard Plum (Lisa) reaches down and takes package carefully from the hole and sets it down in the aisle on the carpet

  [Master] there is a piece of paper tucked into the outside wrapping

  [Master] under the strings

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] This is a very strange place for a package

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] There's a note!

  Howard Plum (Lisa) calling out to the others

  [Guiote (Carissa)] Oui?

  Howard Plum (Lisa) puts down the khopesh and slides the note out from under the strings

  [Master] It is a family tree

  Howard Plum (Lisa) opens and reads aloud

  [Master] with names crossed off

  [Master] Howard immediately recognizes Ilero's name

  Howard Plum (Lisa) looks closer

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] This ... is a family tree!

  [Master] six of the names on the same line of his are crossed off

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] I see Ilero's name!

  Hoffman (John AA)] really?

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] Oh my! We must show this to Ilero as soon as he is recovered

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] There are what I assume to be deaths in his family

  Hoffman (John AA)] but why here?

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] This is a Suomi church

  [Master] It is the size of a book

  [Master] like Howard's spell books

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] Perhaps I should not open this and give it to Ilero for him to unwrap

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] I think this may be a private matter for him now that I see this tree of lineage

  Howard Plum (Lisa) picks up everything and returns to the group

  Hoffman (John AA)] I hope he appreciates it

  [Master] so Ilero is slowly untying the package, then he asks

  Howard Plum (Lisa) pulls the family tree from his pocket and hands it to Ilero

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] This came with it.

  [Ilero]] (TMO) takes it and unfolds it.

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] I'm not sure what it means, but it does not look good

  [Ilero]] (TMO) reads the papers

  [Master] Seosur Ileaen Tyairo Aelan are all crossed out

  Howard Plum (Lisa) watches anxiously

  [Ilero]] (TMO) stares at it for a few moments

  [Ilero]] (TMO) folds it back up, staring off into space.

  [Ilero]] (TMO) stashes the paper into a pocket.

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] (Ilero just had a mini-breakdown less than an hour ago - Howard was trying to be cautious)

  Ilero (TMO)] (honestly, I'm not sure how Ilero would react to the implications when he's 100% sane.)

  Ilero (TMO)] (and now throwing it on top of that... :P)

  [Ilero]] (TMO) looks around for a safe pillar or wall to climb.

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] Aren't ... aren't you going to open the package?

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] Mara said it was safe from traps

  Mara (MarioHome) nods

  [Ilero]] (TMO) blinks dumbly at Howard, then looks at his hand in surprise, having obviously forgotten it was there.

  [Howard Plum (Lisa)] It felt like a book

  [Ilero]] (TMO) takes a deep breath and unwraps the string.

  [Master] inside is a book

  [Ilero]] (TMO) looks at the cover and spine for a title.

  [Master] On the cover is the Sauscha family crest

  [Ilero]] (TMO) flips it open to the front page

  [Master] the first page is torn in half

  [Master] the remainder is bloodied

  [Master] blood soaked book

  [Ilero]] (TMO) closes it back up and wraps the paper back around it.

  [Master] then Ilero sees a written note on the inside cover

  [Master] as he is closing it

  [Ilero]] (TMO) pauses to read it

  [Master] The sad ending of the Noble Line of Sauscha, dead from fire, flood and The Mist

  Ilero (TMO)] (any slim chance he recognizes the handwriting?)

  [Master] no

  Ilero (TMO)] (didn't think so)

  [Master] but the wording implies it was written back home in Blackwater

  [Master] and it apparently implies that the entire family is dead

  [Master] including Ilero

  [Ilero]] (TMO) closes the book and wraps it back in the paper carefully.

  Ilero (TMO)] (oh, is his name crossed too? I thought the summary was that his was uncrossed)

  [Master] correct his name is not crossed out on that note from the outside

  [Master] but the note inside the book implies he died in The Mist

  [Ilero]] (TMO) ties the string back around it and stashes the whole thing safely in his pack.

  [Ilero]] (TMO) looks around for a good wall or pillar to climb that he can perch on top of.

  SpringyDew fidgeting fingers

  [Master] there is the balcony

  Howard Plum (Lisa) looks cautiously at Ilero "Do you want to tell us what that was?'

  [Ilero]] (TMO) opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.

  Howard Plum (Lisa) nods

  Howard Plum (Lisa) looks around "Ummmm ..."

  [Ilero]] (TMO) gestures helplessly with his hands, then shrugs.

Day 11 Trall ___ tre, Man {Early Spring} 11th, 348 SKR.

• 20191025c - Ilero mentions having sent Kazimir Huisto to Blackwater to gather information.

• Anything further Bob or anyone wants to add
• Questions:
  • We never RP'd Ilero reading the actual book.
  • Did Kazimir Huisto return, and if so, what info did he bring back?

BOB comments

• Sending Kazimir to Blackwater in 348, he did not return to Dragon Fen
• He could have been expected to make it to Blackwater and return to Dragon Fen by the start of 349 if nothing went wrong
• Ended Cosmological Quandaries in 358 which included Ilero being the Regent at Dragon Fen for several years (351-358)

My thought is that after everyone is back, the Estate has settled back down, Ilero would want to go investigate on what happened to his family and Kazimir. Staying 65 days to help Branwyn get settled back in after Book Return means leaving on the road towards Blackwater on 02-01-359 SKR

How does that feel for starting the story?

TMO reply:

• Question is, why did Ilero wait 11 years to follow up on this? Potential answer: he blocked it out, totally forgot about it. He had just gone through a fairly major breakdown, and then Kaz left and didn't come back, and Ilero just went on with his life. In 359, his children are 12 and 10. One of them could find the book stashed away in a remote or hidden corner and bring it out asking "what's this?"
• Also he was the Regent during those years. He really only had just about 24 months or less between sending Kaz out and Branwyn leaving and Ilero becoming Regent. Then a handful of weeks after she comes back he goes off.
