Chandler Cowles River
The Chandler Cowles River flows from the far Western Mountains and through the large expanse of forests towards the east. The Chandler Cowles river is traditionally said to be 1,500 miles long.
The river flows through the heart of the Kingdom of Jarvis and down past the independent city of Loosend dividing the Small Kingdoms of Drillian and Gold Hills. The river loses force after passing Loosend becoming a wide slow river until it winds its way to Lake Peipus and Rivers Bend it meets the confluence of the Rumbling River that flows West from the Great Mountains near Wolfspack and also the Velikaya River that comes from the North. The Chandler Cowles empties a large amount of silt which slows down the flow of all three rivers and creates a ribbon delta that merges with the Great Swamp. The Chandler Cowles regularly floods areas of Drillian and the southern shire of Gold Hills where is it simply called the Big Water.
There are several occasional ferries that cross the river at unexpected points but the key crossing points that most people use is the city of Loosend or at Rivers Bend.
There are several stretches of the river that are traditionally discussed.
- Dettifose Waterfalls and upstream.
- Upstream from Jarvis
- Upstream from Loosend
- Upstream from Lake Peipus
The Chandler Cowles River is named for the explorer and later King of Drillian of the same name. He traced the river from its mouth at Rivers Bend up past where the (at the time) reclusive temples of Loosend were and declared that the Dettifose waterfalls to be the source of the river. He was wrong as was proven by the Ranger Reginald Jarvis many decades later. The original name for the river by the communities living near it was the Green River; so named for both the color of the silt laden water and the fact that the mostly yearly floods refreshed the land.
