Hillshire Haven
This small prospering halfling village on the Great Trade Route lies in the GTR-North section just north of Bozawa. It is an important stop on the way north as the first settlement in 60 miles.
It is here that the best pipeweed east of Gold Hills can be found. The halfling farmers make enough profit on their crops to import luxuries not found in the area to make life more comfortable.
Every year there is a big auction of pipeweed in the summer. There is a traditional blessing on mid-summers night, then there is a four day period where potential bidders walk the fields inspecting the crops. The actual auction takes place during the last week of the fourth month of the year.
Because this is a popular waypoint, the town can support 2 inns that cater to both halfling and human patrons. There is a temple that is dedicated to the halfling pantheon, with several small shrines to the various goddesses and gods.
The halfling population here is over 300 adults, with an additional 50 or so humans living in the community. The Mayor rules the town in a hereditary position. There are seven inherited deputy positions for the guards of the town. The Mayor appoints a Sheriff over them, but the appointment is confirmed by a vote of the deputies. One additional quirk in the system of ruling here is a tradition unusual among halfling communities. Those youth that are considered to potentially inherit one of the eight positions are sent out of the community to go "adventuring" to get a new perspective on the outside world.
These journeys might be as simple as visiting distant relatives in Wolfspack or the much longer journey to see the massed numbers of halflings living in the Gold Hills. One adventurous halfling in particular traveled far and wide setting up a new home in the Chang-liu-shui Oasis.
