Languages - Proficiencies

Language Group

There are several different language groups through out the world.

For humans there are three primary language groups:

Each of these languages would require a character to spend one proficiency slot to learn to speak the language, and an additional slot to learn to read and write the language. Knowledge of the main language group is sufficient to understand all of the dialects in each language group.

There are other languages a character can choose that are used by other races in the world that are more homogenous then the human languages. Elven, Dwarven, Gnomish, as well as the many other racial languages are all possible to learn if a character wishes to spend the appropriate proficiency slots on learning them.

Each race gets its own language as a free slot at character creation. For humans choosing the language groups from their native area is typical. This does not give the ability to read or write that must be acquired separately.

This is a partial list of the many potential languages that the many intelligent creatures of the world use. Each of these creatures has their own language and possibly understands other languages as well.

See Session Style descriptions for how these languages are displayed in Chat and in Fantasy Grounds.
