Terraguard

This is the largest kingdom in the Western World. Terraguard is made up of many smaller entities, that were brought under the King of Terraguard's rule by either conquest or other alliance. Some areas still maintain their old allegiances barely under the surface like those living in the Highlands. There are many cultures that bump against each other in Terraguard also. Parts of the southeastern territories are greatly influenced by the Viking Way while other countries can be considered to be living similar to the Celtic World. When Greek and Kayugan cultures are added to the mix the cauldron can bubble over.
The Geography of Terraguard is a vast network of rivers and small lakes that help connect all of the many fiefdoms. This has led to a surprising number of lighthouses to help guide travelers.
Each of the many fiefdoms that make up Terraguard has its own ruler, and these individual rulers owe allegiance to the King of Terraguard. This does not mean he is the only king in Terraguard, but he is the overall ruler. The Kingdom is made up of Kingdoms, Principalities, Dukedoms, Princedoms, Baronies, Duchies, Jarldoms, Earldoms, Protectorates, etc. The Kingdom normally is not all quiet, with wars and battles being fought by its components almost constantly. This is allowed to continue as long the King's lands or rule is not brought into question. The Kingdom breaks down as follows...

Terraguard Hierarchy
As can be expected with so many differing countries and systems of ruling gathered under one leader there needs to be some way of deciding who outranks whom.
The top of the list is the King of Terraguard. He is the ruler of all of the Kingdom and the end link of fealty.
Below this rank are the Princes of the Principalities. Dryads Lair, Terrabrink and Terraguard. These three principalities are ruled by appointment of the King of Terraguard. Very often it is a son or daughter who is being groomed for inheriting the Kingdom that is assigned to one of these, or a trusted adviser.
Below these top four positions are the rest of the countries that make up Terraguard. In order from highest to lowest these are:
- Kingdoms
- Princedoms
- Dukedom/Protectorate
- Barony
- Earldom/Jarldom/County
- Mark/Marches
- Dominion/Squire/Divinarchy
- Mayor/General
note - proper wording only allows "The ___ Mark" or "The Marches of ___" there are no "___ marches" or "Mark of ___" permissible in the Rules of Heraldry
