Chapter 5 - Sleeping - Casting Spells - Recovery

Watches

When the adventurers are out exploring they often want to post some sort of watch while the rest of the group is sleeping.

We divide the nights into three watches: First, Second, and Third

This covers a time frame of roughly 9-12 hours. Enough time to make camp, settle in with food, sleep for eight hours, wake and get set for the new day.

There are a couple of things to consider when setting up the rotation of characters for the three watches.

1 - A character gets 1 hit points healed back naturally by getting 8 hours of sleep. This increases to 2 hit points if the night is spent in a bed in a safe place. 2 - Spell casters require 8 hours of consecutive sleep to be able regain their spells in the morning. 3 - A character that is sleeping will wake up {when they succeed a Constitution check} if there are large disturbances around them, whether they want to wake up or not.

The effect of this tends to be that the groups spell casters do not take the second watch because this would interrupt their extended sleep pattern.
