The group awakens and sets out again on the leg of the river trip to reach Bywater
Licornah casts Orison to help heal Zayden.
The group tries to pay attention for any odd events occurring.
Youtargim: [SKILL] Seamanship [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 14] [d20 = 1]
Licornah: [SKILL] Observation (vs. Target 15) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 18]
Indigo: [SKILL] Boating [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 10) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 14]
Youtargim : [Translation] crap crap crap
Talwin: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 0] [d20 = 13]
Youtargim : [Translation] Indigo did you feel that?
Indigo: rows oblivious to his surroundings
Raelynn: Um, can you use your words we understand?
Youtargim Startles
Raelynn: I don't speak math.
Youtargim: Sorry Rae
Youtargim: Indigo did you feel that?
Indigo: What?
Youtargim: Was thinking of the last time
Youtargim: We need to get away to deeper water
Indigo: okay
Youtargim: Everyone watch
Craigh: [TOWER] [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 15) [FAILURE by 3] [d20 = 18]
Indigo: I'll row harder
Youtargim: [SKILL] Seamanship [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 6] [d20 = 9]
Lanek: [SKILL] Boating [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [FAILURE by 5] [d20 = 19]
Indigo: Watch what?
Indigo: rows harder
Raelynn: Oh, okay.
Lanek: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 14] [d20 = 1]
Raelynn: Wait deeper water?
Raelynn: Isn't that where worse things live?
Indigo: [CHECK] Strength (vs. Target 17) [SUCCESS by 10] [d20 = 7]
Youtargim: Yeah I hope they drop off
Raelynn: Er... what drops off??
Indigo: WHO?
Youtargim: Lampreys
Indigo: Is this a magic thing again?
Licornah: Huh? The anchor already fell off
Youtargim: They are like eels
Licornah: what else could fall off?
Lanek: rows
Raelynn: Well you can eat eels. I think.
Youtargim: But they stick to the ship
Youtargim: Oh I suppose you can eat these too
Raelynn: So can't we just... poke them off?
Indigo: Should we go check the sides of the ship?
Youtargim: Nods to Rae, yeap
Youtargim: If you want to go down into that water and wrestle with them
Craigh: Do we have any spears?
Bixi Fizzlebang: Sounds like a job for Talwin
Indigo: Licornah has a lance
Youtargim: That is why we need deeper water, so when we do go down we do not get tangled up in anything
Youtargim: We can probably just keep going on
Licornah: :: frowns :: You don't eat those things.... they are poisonous
Youtargim: They are like leeches
Youtargim: They might slow us down depending on how many are down there
Craigh: We can tie a rope around anyone who does go over so there's no chance of being left behind somehow.
Indigo: I'm rowing as fast as I can. Are you steering us to deeper water?
Youtargim: Yes
Raelynn: So is it worse to keep them on or worse to go into deep water where things worse than giant slugs live?
Licornah: Anyone know a mage?
Youtargim Shrugs
Indigo: Nothing stuck to the ship is a good thing
Raelynn: Well okay.
Lanek: rows
Raelynn: [CHECK] Strength (vs. Target 11) [SUCCESS by 5] [d20 = 6]
Licornah: zip zap zoom... no more lamprey
Raelynn: rows
Youtargim: I like Howard as a mage, but can you cast underwater Howard?
Youtargim: I have not known any mages who could
Howard Plum: It's difficult as you have to say the words under water
Howard Plum: I don't think it is impossible if perhaps I had a water breathing spell so I wouldn't drown by opening my mouth
Youtargim: Good point Howard
Howard Plum: Should I try?
Raelynn: That seems a bit more complicated than it's worth.
Craigh: Couldn't your magic missiles hit a lamprey underwater while you're up here?
Howard Plum: Only if I could see them to cast upon them
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I can go down under if you need me to
Craigh: I still have a Potion of Water Breathing if we need it
Howard Plum: walks over to the side of the ship to see if he can see anything from the surface
Lots of very pretty dark water for Howard
Howard Plum: [SKILL] Whistling/Humming [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 1] [d20 = 13]
Bixi Fizzlebang: I can give you water breathing for awhile Howard...but is it safe to go down there?
Youtargim: No
Howard Plum: Nothing is safe around here
Youtargim: Gestures to Halgert,
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Nods sadly
Howard Plum: I believe the question is will a lamprey attached to the hull damage it in some way?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Yes
Youtargim: No
Howard Plum: Our ship has taken quite a lot of damage lately
Youtargim: Looks at Halgert
Howard Plum: I'm not sure how much more it can stand
Talwin: And we are jury rigging an anchor
Youtargim: She is a steady ship
Howard Plum: Well which is it?
Talwin: Yes, I think we need repairs and for her to rest
Youtargim: We can handle a lot more
Talwin: at our next port
Raelynn: How far until the next port?
Youtargim: Nods to Talwin, That is good
Craigh: Is there a wood spell that can grow spikes out of wood? We could cast that on the ship
Youtargim: Looks at Halgert
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: We need to reach Bywater
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I had thought it was two and a half days away
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: but this ship is faster, so I do not know
Youtargim: That is a very creative idea Craigh
Youtargim: That would be very useful in combat, but it would likely slow us down too
Youtargim: I like it though
Youtargim: How often can you do that?
Youtargim: Do the spikes break off?
Craigh: I can't do it at all. I was asking if there was such a spell. I know there are spells that warp wood, this is just a variation.
Youtargim: OH
Lanek: rows
Bixi Fizzlebang: I can... theoretically... warp wood, but I've never tried it, and I worry that I might accidentally sink us instead
Howard Plum: I received contradictory answers to my question. If lampreys are attached to the ship will they damage it?
Youtargim: I say they will not harm the Buttercup, because we can keep on moving, they will create extra drag depending on how many are down there, so it will slow us down
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: They will stay with us until they are full and then will go look for the next meal
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Unless we drop off enough food for them to eat they will stay with us
Raelynn: We just need to get out of this area and then maybe things will improve.
Howard Plum: Full from eating our ship?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: and if we go into the water, they will come after us
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: that is what we were doing with clearing the lines, to stop anything like that from coming after our catch
Indigo: keeps rowing
Bixi Fizzlebang: Wait... what if I summon insects? Maybe they will go chase the insects and leave us alone? What do they eat?
Indigo: [CHECK] Strength (vs. Target 17) [SUCCESS by 12] [d20 = 5]
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I have not seen them eat wood, but they could cause damage if they dig in too deep
Youtargim: Not the Buttercup
Youtargim: she has a good hull
Howard Plum: Can you send the insects under the water to them? I can't even see anything from the surface
Youtargim: That is interesting Bixi
Youtargim: Can you get them into the water
Youtargim: grins at Howard
Youtargim: Our magic general
Youtargim: or would that be General of Magic?
Bixi Fizzlebang: No
Bixi Fizzlebang: frowns
Craigh: Water beetles?
Howard Plum: coughs awkwardly
Howard Plum: It seems like we either have to go under water and kill them ourselves or just keep going and hope nothing terrible happens worse than all the terrible things that have already happened
Bixi Fizzlebang: Well... I mean, if anyone wants to jump in and size up the situation, I'm happy to give you water breathing. It lasts a few hours, so plenty of time if someone needs to go back down there
Talwin: Sighs
Talwin: Alright Bixi. But before I go down, I want a CHAIN holding me to a safety crew
Meanwhile you are traveling ahead still
rowing sailing etc.
Raelynn: points to the anchor chain
Craigh: I can't think of a spell that does this, but if Howard needs to see the lampreys to hit them with magic missiles, is there anything that would let him see through or around the hull?
Talwin: Rolls eyes
Talwin: Not a bad Idea Raelynn
Talwin: Grumbles
Raelynn: smiles
Talwin: Who wants to go down with me?
Bixi Fizzlebang: Can we throw in a fish or something to make sure they're not like the carp? Do we have any fish left to throw?
Talwin: And seriously, a crew needs to be on deck ready to pull us up in an emergency
Talwin: frowns
Talwin: Don't know much about Lampreys Bixi.
Talwin: Shrugs
Raelynn: Zayden has fished enough. We should have some left, right?
Howard Plum: They will be like the carp in the way that they will try to kill anyone that goes down there
Talwin: I could take some fish down with me and see if it helps?
Talwin: Nods solemnly at Howard
Talwin: Yeah, that's what I'm trying to avoid
Bixi Fizzlebang: I just... don't think it would be great for anyone to lose any limbs. Or any more, as the case may be
Bixi Fizzlebang: Oooh, that's a good idea. Distraction bait!
Craigh: Wait... why go down with a fish?
Talwin: Why don’t we repel down and a few feet from the waterline throw out some bait
Craigh: We have fishing poles!
Talwin: Smiles
Talwin: Great Idea Craigh!
Youtargim: Craigh you are a genius
Howard Plum: We cannot touch Zayden's poles though
Youtargim: Just be careful
Raelynn: Okay but don't tell Zayden anyone touched them.
Youtargim: I mean
Talwin: Meanwhile Zayden can relieve himself overboard and see if that disturbs the lampreys enough to let go from sheer shock!
Raelynn: nods and points to Howard
Howard Plum: I'm not touching them after last time!
Youtargim: there are not any sharks around here right?
Youtargim: That is how you get sharks, blood in the water
Raelynn: shrugs
Youtargim: I have never heard of fresh water sharks before
Raelynn: I only know land things not ...sea things? River things?
Youtargim: but this has been a hard trip
Talwin: I don't mind using the poles, really guys, if it came down to it, you could just let go of the pole
Craigh: Just tell Zayden it was a water zombie, came up and used his pole
Youtargim: IF Talwin lets go of one of Zayden's poles, I will not be responsible
Talwin: Do we have any fish that we could gut or bleed a tad? I'll throw it in the water and we could test it out?
Howard Plum: chuckles
Talwin: I'll buy him a new one
Talwin: Grumbles
Youtargim: Don't you owe him one already?
Talwin: No
Youtargim: Who does?
Talwin: I don't know, but I’ve never touched one of Zayden's “Poles” before now
Talwin: So not my concern
Bixi Fizzlebang: Look, we can buy him new ones soon, I think he'd prefer getting to our destination in one piece
Howard Plum: If you put a fish on the line I can supply some blood
As this is going on you have successfully rowed right through other possible encounters
Talwin: Thanks Howard
Talwin: Grabs one of Zayden's poles carefully
Talwin: inspects it
Raelynn: Blood from where??
Howard Plum: my hand
Talwin: Gods Howard
Talwin: We aren't doing that
Howard Plum: takes out his dagger
Talwin: NO!
Howard Plum: Not a lot
Talwin: How about none at all. Let's try the damn fish before you start gutting yourself yeah?
Youtargim: Smear it all over the fish
Raelynn: Gut a fish instead?
Talwin: Goddamnit Yout
Talwin: We aren't cutting ourselves
Talwin: At least for this shit
Lanek: grumbles
Talwin: Gods above and below
Lanek: rows
Talwin: Shakes head in frustration
Raelynn: OH! Or maybe borrow some of Zayden's old clothes? They probably still have blood on them from yesterday if these things don't care about freshness.
Talwin: Thanks for the fish
Talwin: Nods Appreciatively
Howard Plum: Well if you change your mind I can do that
Talwin: Hooks the fish on the Pole
Talwin: Gently reels the line downward
Talwin: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 3] [d20 = 10]
Talwin: [CHECK] Strength (vs. Target 18) [SUCCESS by 0] [d20 = 18]

Lanek: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 9] [d20 = 6]
Raelynn: quietly sits there contemplating new beauty routines.
So Talwin drops over the dead bloody fish into the water, letting it trail down
you feel a gentle rocking as the ship adjusts to lighter weight on the port side
and apparently at least one or more lampreys have let go to go after the fish
Talwin: Cuts the line in preparation of a new fish
Talwin: Next fish please
Talwin: We'll try the Starboard Side
Lanek: shocked face
Talwin: Shrugs
Talwin: I wasn't going to try and reel it back in, the fish will keep them father away from the boat then attracting them back to it
Talwin: Nods in Thanks
Talwin: When handed the next fish
Talwin: Carefully attaches it, strolls over to Starboard. Need my buddy!
Talwin: Waits for his buddy
Talwin: Tosses the next fish over the railing and gently lowers the line down
Talwin: [CHECK] Strength (vs. Target 18) [SUCCESS by 5] [d20 = 13]
Talwin: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [SUCCESS by 11] [d20 = 2]
Indigo: [SKILL] Boating [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 10) [FAILURE by 1] [d20 = 11]
Raelynn: daydreams about being on land again.
and yes after two or three more dropping in bloody fish you manage to dislodge the last of the Lampreys
The time is 8:00 AM
The time is 10:00 AM
The time is 12:00 PM
The time is 2:00 PM
you are out of the Dark Shire and the bank on the north side (port side) of the lake is more pleasant.
Talwin: Sighs in relief
Talwin: That stretch had me quite anxious guys
Raelynn: woo
There is a ferry service that makes the 140 mile trip from Bywater upstream and into Terraguard that carries some trade back and forth across the river. There are some small clandestine and informal docking ports for other trade traffic going up or down stream to other ports. One such port is Undertowers which has its own solution to keeping river traffic stops to a minimum.
Talwin: I'm glad we made it though with only a lost anchor and some ship damage
Talwin: Perks up
Talwin: You want to spar Indigo?
Indigo: I think maybe we should just keep rowing
Talwin: Nods slightly crestfallen but understanding
Talwin: No you are right
Raelynn: You can arm wrestle later! It's not dire yet.
Indigo: laughs
Talwin: I can actually help with more rowing. I need something mindless to do
Talwin: Grins
Talwin: Hops on the Oars
Youtargim: [SKILL] Detect Noise [PERCENT:Detect Noise] (vs. Target 70) [SUCCESS by 24] [d100 = 46]

But it is the afternoon and you still have many miles to get to Bywater as far as you can tell
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Hey! That is Crignors Cliff!
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: WOW How did we get here so far
Talwin: Picks up head
Raelynn: What?
Talwin: What?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: That place there, (Points to the shore at a small cliff with a split down the middle that is passing )
Talwin: Huh
Talwin: It's certainly an interesting landmark
Talwin: Anything special about it?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Legend has it that the Stone Giant Crignor was trying to kill Gilgim, a hin ranger
Lanek: rows
Talwin: Raises eyebrows
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: and he split the cliff in half trying to get him
Talwin: Big damn giant
Talwin: Did the ranger die?
Indigo: It's hard for giants to hit us sometimes them being so big and all
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I always heard that he escaped while the giant was trying to dig his sword back out of the cliff
Talwin: Nods in contemplation
Indigo: Gilgim is a hero and famous
Talwin: Twists to Indigo
Talwin: I've...never heard of him. I suppose his antics go beyond the Mountain that is cut in half?
Talwin: Grins
Indigo: He escaped into the woods where he met half a dozen trolls that Gilgim battled all by himself and won!
Indigo: The giant never found him
Talwin: Wow
Talwin: Impressed
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Little Hin pretend to be Gilgim when battling the big people
Indigo: It's said if you climb up the cliff you can find shards of the giant sword that broke off
Talwin: Really!?
Talwin: Can...can we stop on the way back?
Indigo: I'm not a good climber so I haven't done it
Talwin: I'm not either, but...to see the sword
Talwin: Awestruck
Indigo: But merchants try to sell shards they say came from the cliff
Talwin: Skeptical
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I would say we are less than a day from Bywater now
Raelynn: You have your own giant sword.
Talwin: Yeah, but what they say and what is real...
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: at the speed you have this ship moving
Talwin: Nods at Raelyn
Talwin: Indeed
Raelynn: Is there an inn there?
Talwin: Smiles
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: at Bywater?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: There are Inns that are only for Humans and other Big People
Indigo: That's good news Halgert
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: You might even see an elf there too
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: The Gnomes stay to themselves unless they are trading things
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: There are a hundred or more Big People overall
Raelynn: What qualifies as big people...?
Indigo: [CHECK] Intelligence (vs. Target 11) [SUCCESS by 0] [d20 = 11]
Indigo: Everyone bigger than me and Bixi
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: The Mayor has always been fair
Raelynn: Oh. Okay.
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: We pay our taxes, we serve in the militia
Raelynn: is just wanting to know if there is a bed for her to sleep in.
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: If we are lucky there will be an elven minstrel from the woods in to tell stories
Raelynn: nods and listens politely.
Indigo: That would be nice!
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: The Castle is a welcome sight, you know you are home then
Indigo: I've never stayed in Bywater other than passing by. Whose castle is it?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: That is the Mayor's Seat
Indigo: I think about the port and the ships and not the mayor stuff
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I can see why
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: You are one of the best hin sailors I have seen
Indigo: smiles
Indigo: Thank you!
Indigo: Are Bixi and I going to have to stay at a different inn than the rest of our friends?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I know there are several that cater to mixed crowds
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Don't you have family to stay with though?
Indigo: Not close enough
Youtargim: We have not stayed in an Inn in a while, it will be good to get a nice bath right Rae
Indigo: And it will be hard for me to repair the ship if I go visit
Raelynn: Oh very much. We could already use one.
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Really? I have not known a Hin to not have at least a second cousin to have a second breakfast with
Talwin: Well...how far Indigo?
Talwin: It's not like you get to visit that often
Talwin: It's up to you of course, but we've come so far, I would be remiss if you didn't get an opportunity....
Talwin: We can always keep an eye on things if you would like
Indigo: It's okay. I've been gone six years plus to them and so it would be hard to visit for a short time and leave
Talwin: Nods slowly
Indigo: I will have to make a trip when I can stay a while
Talwin: Okay. Just let us know if you change your mind
Talwin: Smiles
Indigo: Thanks Talwin
The group sails into the evening and then stops on the river to spend the night.
Bixi Fizzlebang: [SKILL] Alertness [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 10] [d20 = 4]
Licornah casts Wyvern Watch on a part of the ship for protection.
Licornah casts Orison on Zayden to aid in his healing.
First watch – Howard, Talwin and Licornah
Licornah: :: weaving away ::
Talwin: Begins by stretching before doing a patrol on the Deck
Michael (Talwin): As approaches Licornah, nods politely. “What are you weaving? It's very pretty”
Licornah: I'm working on a blanket... well, I hope it will be a blanket
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Can you make nets too?
Licornah: Maybe in might end up as a cover up
Talwin: Cocks head
Talwin: Coverup?
Licornah: :: ponders :: I'm not nautical by nature, but I might be able to figure it up
Licornah: :: thinks :: Cape?
Talwin: Ah
Talwin: Nods
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Was thinking if you could make nets, blessed nets, something magical you could sell a LOT of them
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Lots of magical things just disappear
Talwin: Grins “But then she'd be rich and couldn’t be with our merry band of adventurers”
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: but if you can weave something real then enchant it
Licornah: :: ponders turning over an entrepreneurial spirit
Talwin: Sees her contemplation, and smile falls as he backtracks
Licornah: Then I would give up being attacked by leeches and kidnapped by spiders... Hmmmm
Talwin: Er, of course if that would make you happy Licornah, I was just making fun
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Your group has been wonderful, you seem to have spells all the time
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: but us normal fisherman do not get the chance at that
Licornah: :: ponders sitting on a pile of coins like a dragon :: Could be interesting
Talwin: We have to be Halgert. I can swing a sword real nice, but can't do any magic worth a damn
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: a magical net that never tangled would be amazing
Talwin: Can you weave a fleece made of golden threat?
Talwin: Chuckles to himself
Licornah: :: thinks :: I have never tried that either
Licornah: I grew up on a farm... nothing so elaborate
Talwin: Raises his eyebrows in surprise
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: There is not a lot of magic around town, at least not the flashy kind
Talwin: I...didn't know that about you
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Yes, that is what I am used to
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: farm magic
Talwin: Flashy magic is a great way to make yourself a target
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: calves birthed without problems
Licornah: :: thinks :: My Father used to have the priests bless our crops
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: crops just growing
Talwin: Nods in agreement. That is good magic to have Halgert
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: the ale a bit tarter
Licornah: Cider?
Talwin: For your community, that is a great value correct?
Talwin: Oh...Cider
Talwin: Dreamy expression
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I do not know that sort of thing,
Talwin: I haven't had that in....many years
Licornah: Made of ... apples, right?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I just appreciate that it can happen in town because we are safe
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: the Hin call it the comfortable lands for a reason
Licornah: Your town has gnomes?
Talwin: Almost bitterly
Licornah: or Dwarves?
Licornah: Or both?
Talwin: Nowhere is perfectly safe, even in a town Halgert
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Dwarves are strange
Licornah: That is so true, Talwin
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: there is a small group of gnomes that live on the northeast side of the Hill
Talwin: Perks up
Talwin: Have you met any dwarves in person?
Licornah: Danger can be anywhere and from anyone...
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I think I have seen some from a distance
Talwin: Nods to Licornah
Talwin: Indeed
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: There was a group of bearded hooded people once along the edge of the Dark Shire
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I saw them from the great water
Licornah: Maybe they wanted to be left in peace
Talwin: Shudders
Talwin: I didn't like being near the Dark Shire
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: It is dangerous
Talwin: Indigo pointed out where a river led deep into the Underdark
Talwin: I don't know if I ever could go there
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: We go there for the chance to catch things that are not near our part of the great water
Talwin: Nods solemnly
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: I do not know anyone who has gone up that river and returned
Licornah: :: frowns :: The Underdark is a dangerous place for certain.
Talwin: Yes, I think you know exactly how dangerous it can be
Howard Plum: Branwyn wished to have a summer holiday there but we never managed it
Talwin: Chokes on air
Talwin:;What?
Licornah: Maybe they encountered Drow or Lloth's handmaidens
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: BLINKS
Licornah: Spiders have voices to her
Talwin: A...Holiday!?
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: What are Drow? or lloth?
Howard Plum: She was quite bored with her ambassador duties and thought it would be entertaining for her and Tiberius
Talwin: .........Yeah, actually that sounds like Bran
Talwin: My bad
Licornah: Drow are like my kind, but darker skinned and in many cases, darker souls
Howard Plum: Oh many people go on holiday in the summer in Dryads Lair
Talwin: Not to the UnderDark Howard!
Licornah: Lloth is one of their deities, she's known to take the form of a spider... as are many of her handmaidens
Licornah: She's cruel
Howard Plum: laughs
Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman: Spiders are ok I guess
Licornah: I can't imagine a “holiday” in the Underdark but :: shrug :: everyone is different I suppose
Talwin: And nods at Licornah. “I had heard that. Not about the Spider bit, that's new to me, but a darker.....soul is probably good enough description”
Licornah: Not all drow are evil... there is one Qilue, of the Sisters, who rebelled against Lloth
Talwin: One day she's going to get bored and just decide to conquer the world, I swear
Talwin: Shakes head
Talwin: Really Licornah? I didn't know that either.
Licornah: :: shrugs :: I haven't met her...
Licornah: [SKILL] Observation (vs. Target 15) [FAILURE by 2] [d20 = 17]
Licornah: :: continues weaving pondering Lloth and Drow and then thinks about home ::
Talwin: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 13) [FAILURE by 6] [d20 = 19]
Howard Plum: [SKILL] Whistling/Humming [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 14) [SUCCESS by 9] [d20 = 5]
Licornah: :: nods :: Good night all...
Second Watch – Lanek, Indigo, and Craigh
Lanek: ugh
Lanek: grumbles
Lanek: paces, rubbing his neck
Indigo: You should take it easy Lanek. You've been rowing really hard
Craigh: Craigh sits down on a crate and watches the water's surface.
Craigh: Is it always this dangerous to make this trip, Indigo?
Indigo: Pretty much. We had a lot of trouble didn't we?
Craigh: How does this place get any trade done at all? Is every ship armed stem to stern with guards?
Indigo: Think they don't
Indigo: Terraguard trades with itself and in the other direction
Craigh: Wonder how it even got founded in the first place, if there's this much danger right next door.
Indigo: Rivers Bend probably trades in the opposite direction
Lanek: humph
Indigo: Gold Hills doesn't do a lot of river traffic except Bywater and Halgert fishing in the Dark Shire is probably pretty rare
Indigo: Between you and me, it wasn't really smart to take a small boat like that out here
Craigh: I'm not sure it was smart bringing a large boat out here either.
Craigh: Craigh chuckles.
Indigo: laughs
Craigh: You've been out here before though, right?
Indigo: Sailing through? Just when we went to Dryads Lair years ago
Indigo: We had wind spells then
Indigo: Shi was good with that
Craigh: Well, Dryads Lair too. Rivers Bend is the farthest I've been out this way, and even that was only once before.
The date is Ko____tre, 17th Man (Early Spring), 358 SKR
Young Moon's phase is Last Quarter
Old Moon's phase is Evening Crescent
The time is 12:00 AM
Indigo: If you like cities you will like Dryads Lair. Many things to do
Lanek: pulls a small flute out and practices finger placement without blowing
Lanek: muttering to himself
Craigh: I've heard about it, but some of it could have been exaggeration.
Indigo: Guilds and things if you belong to those
Craigh: Craigh nods.
Craigh: I think my memberships are at least recognized out here.
Craigh: May not be very useful.
Indigo: Dunno. We could be here a while
Indigo: Sword training takes a long time
Craigh: Heh. I wouldn't know.
Lanek: that's a A. uh, this C. I think
Indigo: See what?
Lanek: concentrating
Craigh: Doing some learning there, Lanek?
Lanek: no that's D
Lanek: uh, wha?
Lanek: oh this
Lanek: waves the flute
Lanek: I used ta play one a these when I was a kid
Craigh: Ah. I've never been very musical, unfortunately.
Lanek: I dint keep up with it and mebbe I shoulda
Indigo: Play us something
Craigh: Craigh nods.
Lanek: grumbles
Lanek: I’ll try quietly
Lanek: [SKILL] Musical Instrument [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 14] [d20 = 2]
Craigh: Sounds good to me.
a beautiful melody wafts over the knarr
Lanek: mournful tune
Lanek: hey I got it right that time
Indigo: claps
Indigo: That was pretty!
Craigh: Thanks
Lanek: grumph
Lanek: it's meant ta be SAD
Indigo: Sad can be pretty
Lanek: alright then
Lanek: plays a different sad tune
Lanek: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 6] [d20 = 9]
Craigh: [SKILL] Observation [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 13] [d20 = 2]
Lanek: while watching
Indigo: [SKILL] Boating [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 10) [SUCCESS by 3] [d20 = 7]
Lanek: [SKILL] Musical Instrument [MOD:DEX] (vs. Target 16) [SUCCESS by 13] [d20 = 3]
Indigo: claps again
Indigo: That was very sad and not pretty!
Indigo Craigh, and Lanek as they are moving about near the end of their watch notice that there are weeds clinging to the side of the ship
and as you stare at them they are moving
Craigh: Yeah... I'm pretty sure those weren't there earlier...
Indigo: Hey! Look at those!
Indigo: Go away bad plants!
Lanek: are they stuck on?
Indigo: Do you think they liked Lanek's music?
that does not seem to work for Indigo
Indigo: goes over to cut one off
Lanek: gods I hope not
Indigo attacks the Strangleweed 4 Intelligent Plant multiple times with his Short swords, killing it.
Lanek: lessee if they are a threat before we wake ennybody
Craigh: Given the way this trip has been so far...
Indigo: Seems like we can cut them off
Craigh: Craigh pokes at one of the stems with his dagger
Craigh: it is totally ineffective
Craigh: Maybe *you* can cut them...
Youtargim and Halgert, Human, Sailor/Fisherman sleep through the initial plant commotion.
Strangleweed 1 Intelligent Plant stumbles into the Wyvern Watch and gets caught.
Craigh: Oh crap...!
Craigh: I wasn't expecting it to be *fast*!
So Indigo killed one, three of them climbed onto the deck, and one climbed onto the deck and got caught up in the Wyvern Watch
Lanek wades in and SLASHES Strangleweed 1 Intelligent Plant to bits
Indigo attacks the Strangleweed 5 Intelligent Plant multiple times with his Short swords, killing it.
Youtargim: [CHECK] Constitution (vs. Target 10) [SUCCESS by 1] [d20 = 9]
Youtargim : [Translation] WHA WHAT what is happening
Youtargim awakes.
Indigo: Sorry! Didn't mean to wake you. Just killing some plants
Strangleweed 3 Intelligent Plant tries to attack the sleeping Talwin, but misses.
Strangleweed 2 Intelligent Plant attacks and entangles the sleeping Bixi Fizzlebang.
Lanek and Craigh see that one of the plants has entangled Bixi as she sleeps on deck
Lanek: THEY ARE A THREAT !!!
Craigh: Craigh takes his lasso and tosses it over some rigging and back down and then tries to wrap up the bundle of walking weeds and hoist it into the air.
Craigh tries this on Strangleweed 3 Intelligent Plant, but misses.
Lanek tries to grab the weeds that are strangling Bixi but cannot get a good grip on them to pull them off
Indigo: tries to cut the weeds without chopping up Bixi
Indigo carefully attacks Strangleweed 2 Intelligent Plant with his Short swords, killing it and freeing Bixi without harming her in the process.
Youtargim runs down and SLASHES the remaining weeds to pieces
Indigo: Yout! You're awake!
Youtargim: I heard a haunted melody then woke to the sounds of swords so I ran to where you were Indigo knowing you would be in the middle of everything
Indigo: You didn't have to get up
Indigo: laughs
Youtargim: Weeds
Youtargim: Did they grow magically?
Indigo: Well it's almost time for 3rd watch anyway
Indigo: Don't know. They just showed up
Youtargim: So magic
Craigh: They came up over the sides
Indigo: Maybe they liked Lanek's music too
Youtargim: Moving?
Youtargim: Yeah maybe Lanek summoned them
Lanek: hope not
Craigh: Craigh nods
Youtargim: It was good music
Youtargim: powerful
Lanek: not gonna test it
Youtargim: I did not know you could do magic Lanek
Craigh: We should probably put all this into a sack and tie it shut. Bixi here might want to look at it.
Lanek: nods
Indigo: pulls the loose weeds off of Bixi
Craigh: Thank you, Yout. I couldn't get this one trapped.
Youtargim: I will go wake Rae
Indigo: Bixi, are you okay?
Youtargim: Shakes Rae's shoulder
Youtargim: Time for you to take over
Raelynn: mumbles and rolls a over
Bixi Fizzlebang: I'm fine, why?
Lanek: points
Youtargim: Rae, Bixi needs you, she was almost killed by a bunch of plants
Indigo: This big plant was strangling you
Youtargim: She will have issues
Lanek: tried to strangle ya
Bixi Fizzlebang: eyes widen
Indigo: It's dead now
Bixi Fizzlebang: [SKILL] Botany [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 15) [SUCCESS by 0] [d20 = 15]
Indigo: See!
Indigo: points at cut up plant
Youtargim: Rae, You need to wake up
Raelynn: Oh what?
Youtargim: Bixi needs you
Raelynn: For what? Make up?
Youtargim: She was almost killed by a plant
Raelynn: Oh.
Raelynn: OH!
Bixi Fizzlebang: I feel fine
Youtargim: You need to go help her understand
Raelynn: jumps and goes to check on her
Youtargim: I am going back up to my ....
Youtargim: area and be ready if you need he says to himself
Raelynn: [SKILL] Diagnostics [MOD:WIS] (vs. Target 15) [FAILURE by 1] [d20 = 16]
Raelynn: Hmm, she looks fine to me....
Indigo: Think we got it before it could do anything bad
Indigo: If you're okay I'll go to sleep now
Craigh: Craigh loops up his lasso and puts it back on his belt.
Indigo: Watch for more plants. They will hurt you if they can
Indigo: Goodnight!
Indigo: heads off to sleep
Raelynn: [SKILL] Herbalism [2] [MOD:INT] (vs. Target 11) [FAILURE by 4] [d20 = 15]
Craigh: Do you want any of these, Bixi, or shall I just dump it all overboard?
Raelynn: I think she's fine. Thank you, Indigo and others. Sleep well!
Third Watch – Bixi, Raelynn, and Craigh
Bixi Fizzlebang: Oooh strangleweed. Hmmm. I wonder if we can just keep a little piece in a container of water... maybe I can do something with it back home
Bixi Fizzlebang: I don't want to lug around a whole plant though, that's too much for this journey. Thanks for the offer though, Craigh
Craigh: We can use a spare waterskin to hold it
Bixi Fizzlebang: Perfect!
Craigh: Just don't forget which one it is.
Craigh: I'm a bit too hyped up to go to sleep, I'll stay up with you if that's alright.
Raelynn: Sure! What do you want to talk about this time?
Bixi Fizzlebang: I'd be very glad for your company
Bixi Fizzlebang: sneaks a LOOK at Yout
Craigh: You missed a couple of very nice tunes from Lanek on the flute. I was surprised.
Craigh: I didn't know he could play.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Oh really? He and Zayden should start a band maybe
Raelynn: Maybe that's why I slept so good.
Craigh: Maybe so.
Bixi Fizzlebang: What would they call themselves, do you think?
Craigh: Craigh chuckles.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Zayden and the oldies?
Craigh: I won't come up with any names.
Raelynn: Will they play oldies are their songs?
Bixi Fizzlebang: I mean, does Lanek strike you as the type to come up with fresh new songs? He seems like he would like the classics to me
Craigh: No clue. Music's not really my thing.
Craigh: Nice to listen to when it's available though.
Raelynn: Really? He looked more like someone who'd improvise to me. Or play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star many times.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Hmmm, maybe all my thoughts about him are wrong
Raelynn: I could sing if you like. Um, although maybe not until others are awake. They need sleep.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Maybe we could get Knotty to do percussion.
Raelynn: Can he do that...?
Craigh: You'll have to sing for us some time. That would be nice to hear.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I don't know... he did circus tricks, I bet he could learn to stomp a drum
Bixi Fizzlebang: Yes, Rae, I would love to hear your singing sometime
Raelynn: I'd be happy to! We use to sing and dance all the time at the temple. We haven't really had many opportunities while traveling.
Bixi Fizzlebang: We probably had some time those first few days but... yeah... these last few have been entirely too eventful for my taste
Raelynn: Well, yes, but I really wanted to hear Zayden sing. He was very enthusiastic about it, and surprisingly good!
Craigh: Probably won't be hard to convince him.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Even if Lanek isn't interested, I bet Zay and Knotty would make a great team
Raelynn: True. Maybe once we get to, well, anywhere at this point. I hope he's feeling better by morning.
Raelynn: They'll make an, er, interesting team....
Bixi Fizzlebang: Yes, we really need to get to town. I have a lot of glitter to buy
Bixi Fizzlebang: A one-man boar band!
Raelynn: Glitter?
Craigh: .. ?
Bixi Fizzlebang: Yes, glitter
Bixi Fizzlebang: I shouldn't have said that out loud. No one mention it to Talwin, please.
Raelynn: For what? I have some glittery eyeshadow if you need it.
Raelynn: ...and glittery lip balm if you want some for Talwin?
Bixi Fizzlebang: I'm going to make his sword pretty... um... without his consent
Bixi Fizzlebang: It's a religion thing
Craigh: chuckles
Raelynn: nods knowingly
Raelynn: I know when to not ask questions I'm unsure I want the answer to.
Bixi Fizzlebang: God of the tricksters and whatnot
Raelynn: Just don't get it on anything else, please? It's hard to get out of things.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I guarantee we will all see the results! For... weeks... maybe forever.
Craigh: I'll be sure to be well out of the way.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Rae, I would do anything for you... but I can't do that
Raelynn: Um... well I thought you meant his... no no I don't want to know what you meant now.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I mean his giant evil sword!
Craigh: shudders
Bixi Fizzlebang: If we have to deal with that crazy thing, at least it can be nice to look at
Raelynn: Ummmmm, okay. You do you, Bixi!
Bixi Fizzlebang: Rae, what are your favorite songs about?
Raelynn: Everyone has their... quirks.
Bixi Fizzlebang: subject change!
Raelynn: Oh silly. Love songs!
Raelynn: I'm sure you could have guessed that.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Sure but more specifically. Are there particular characters that show up often, or are they all different?
Raelynn: Elven ones are my favorite, but you have to find a really good musician to play it. They can just play such dreamy music...
Raelynn: OH! Like Nieven! Have you met him? He's written some really nice ones.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I... don't think I've met him?
Raelynn: You should visit the forest more often. Um, not that I like visiting it TOO often, but somewhat often!
Craigh: shakes his head.
Raelynn: I prefer a bed for sleeping in to a tree, personally.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I really should. I spent a lot of time cooped up studying, and... some of the spells I was trying to learn are still a little too difficult for me to really get my head around
Raelynn: nods
Craigh: Elves don't really sleep in tree branches, do they? I've never seen one do that.
Raelynn: And Shi could probably teach you about some other plants besides whichever one it is we're getting for you.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I wonder if I could find somewhere to make a nice little home in a hill or something, with a little garden or a greenhouse around it
Raelynn: You clearly haven't been paying attention to N'laea. I don't think she knows how to sleep in a normal bed.
Raelynn: Well I guess you'd have to spot her doing that, though.
Bixi Fizzlebang: It would be nice to have a sort of home to come back to
Craigh: I try to be very careful around N'laea, I wouldn't want to offend or upset her by accident.
Raelynn: laughs
Bixi Fizzlebang: N'laea is very intimidating
Bixi Fizzlebang: In a good way!
Raelynn: nods in agreement
Raelynn: It's... not hard. Umm, I might have done that. Multiple times....
Craigh: smiles.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Oh no, what did you do?
Raelynn: But I'm sure we can find a good place for a garden when we get back, Bixi!
Craigh: It's a slightly different situation for you and her though. I'm a stranger.
Raelynn: Be me, apparently?
Bixi Fizzlebang: But you're so great!
Raelynn: Oh, you've only known her a few months less than me.
Raelynn: beams
Raelynn: Thank you, Bixi! And so are you!
Bixi Fizzlebang: You're always so sweet and helpful and offering to share your expertise!
Bixi Fizzlebang: How could anyone be upset by that!
Raelynn: smiles
Raelynn: I just want the best for everyone! But maybe I'm too cheerful? Sometimes? Or so I'm told. I don't agree with that at all!
Craigh: shrugs
Bixi Fizzlebang: Oh, then she must not like me either. I'm also too cheerful
Bixi Fizzlebang: Craigh, does she like you?
Raelynn: I think sometimes she gets annoyed with my questions, too. But she's, well, a wood elf, you know? They're very... independent and solitary and not at all like the elves from the temple.
Raelynn: No such thing as too cheerful!
Craigh: Honestly, I'm not sure. I don't think she *dislikes* me, for what it's worth. I probably just don't really have a rating, like or dislike.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Well that's not bad
Raelynn: I think mostly she's neutral? But if you impress her, she'll take notice of you?
Raelynn: She told me once about this warrior... umm, wait no, she wouldn't want me to repeat that.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Ooooh, did she have a secret romance!?
Craigh: Well, warrioring isn't something I can impress her with, so no worries there.
Raelynn: glances around conspiratorial before leaning in and nodding vigorously
Bixi Fizzlebang: Oooooh! I won't ask you to share secrets, but that's so exciting!
Bixi Fizzlebang: Craigh, do you have any secret romances to share?
Craigh: snorts.
Raelynn: She wouldn't give me any good details, though! Just that it was some woman who was like, really good with her sword. Which, you know, being a woman means she meant a real sword.
Raelynn: But don't tell her I told you!
Craigh: No, sorry.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I'd be too scared to tell her I knew anything
Raelynn: Which is why I feel safe telling you!
Raelynn: beams
Bixi Fizzlebang: Why not Craigh? There must be some humans out there who really like the one-armed battle-scarred type of guy
Raelynn: And Craigh didn't spill any of his secrets last time I asked him. He's very tight-lipped.
Craigh: shrugs.
Raelynn: Oh! What about a dwarf? They like the rugged types, right?
Bixi Fizzlebang: It's probably a bad idea to drink while we're on watch, right...
Craigh: Not in my experience, I'm afraid. Only the ones interested in coin, as far as I can tell.
Bixi Fizzlebang to Raelynn: We need to get him drunk to loosen those lips! Get the secrets out!
Craigh: No worries, Raelynn. I'm very good with secrets.
Raelynn: Well do you want someone to be interest in you? We'll have time to kill in Dryads Lair...
Bixi Fizzlebang: What's your type? I bet Rae could help you find someone?
Raelynn to Bixi Fizzlebang: You're his apprentice. You must have an idea of how to get him drunk.
Craigh: blushes and stammers a little bit
Raelynn: Yes! I already told Zayden I'd help him!
Bixi Fizzlebang to Raelynn: I am? I thought that was just a joke!
Raelynn to Bixi Fizzlebang: I didn't think it was a joke. Does Craigh make jokes?
Bixi Fizzlebang to Raelynn: I don't know! Apparently he blushes, and I didn't know that until right now!
Craigh: I haven't really given it that much thought. I mean, if it happens, great, but chasing after it is just .... depressing.
Raelynn: I got the spells ready to make it all easier for you.
Raelynn: holds up her hands and wiggles her fingers
Craigh: winces.
Bixi Fizzlebang: You can't see someone you're not looking for!
Craigh: I absolutely do not want someone interested in me only because they were compelled into it.
Raelynn to Bixi Fizzlebang: Well you have your mission now! He didn't blush when I tired to get him to talk last watch. You can do this!
Craigh: That would be even worse than none at all.
Raelynn: rolls eyes
Bixi Fizzlebang: No no no, it's not like that
Bixi Fizzlebang: You're not chasing, you're just letting people know you're available
Raelynn: There is no compelling. That's an insult to Hanali. She likes pure, honest love.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Just meet people and talk and see if there are sparks!
Craigh: What magic I do have is mind magic, remember. I have some experience with what it can do.
Craigh: smiles at Bixi.
Raelynn: Well you have to be yourself! You can't base a relationship off of lies.
Craigh: Bixi, I talk to lots and lots of folks. No mutual sparking that I've ever noticed.
Bixi Fizzlebang: You're talking to the wrong folks then
Raelynn: Ugh, are you like N'laea?
Craigh: How so, Raelynn?
Raelynn: She won't let me set her up, either.
Bixi Fizzlebang: When we get to Dryad's Lair, Rae and I will take you out somewhere nice, with drinks, and we'll see who we can meet. Right, Rae?
Raelynn: She says she doesn't understand what makes it all so great!
Craigh: takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Meet for Craigh, I mean. I don't want to meet anyone
Raelynn: nods
Raelynn: Umm, Bixi, it isn't fair to only try to set him up.
Craigh: Okay, feel free to try, but don't be upset when it doesn't work out.
Raelynn: I won't be! I've been at this long enough to see failures, but that's what makes the successes better!
Bixi Fizzlebang: We're not trying to set him up! We're just meeting people and seeing if there are sparks!
Craigh: Well, I can at least get drunk I suppose.
Raelynn: And if there are no sparks, well, I suppose I have to respect that.
Bixi Fizzlebang: I mean, if I happen to find sparks, great, but I'm not really interested
Raelynn: Oh yes, we'd be happy to get you drunk. You seem like you'd be a fun drunk.
Bixi Fizzlebang to Raelynn: Success!
Craigh: chuckles.
Raelynn to Bixi Fizzlebang: Good job, apprentice of his!
Craigh: Depends on my mood at the time.
Bixi Fizzlebang: Yes, if nothing else, it might be a fun time with friends
Craigh: I'll accept that.
Raelynn: Don't worry. Bixi and I will have plenty of cheer to share with you to make it a good mood!
Morning breaks and the group sets sail for Bywater.
Licornah and Raelynn cast Orison spells to heal Zayden, Lanek, Craigh, and Indigo.
