GM: tomorrow is Bookfest for me, start of Summer Learning

seyfert: Rollercoaster of a week. Bookfest sounds fun.

mharmon1: Also, to be fair, that program introduced me to Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and a whole bunch of other classics so it was well worth it.

mharmon1: Although...Never read Wuthering Heights. That was a mistake

GM: We give out lots of adult books too, but at events

LorieD: We had a list that was given to us at the end of 8th grade that was STRONGLY encouraged to all of us... oh the torture of some of those books

seyfert: It's rare for me to hate a book. But I'll read whatever you toss in my face.

LorieD: (It's been almost 20 years, I'm still bitter about that series!)

mharmon1: The best teacher I had let us do Catch-22, 1984, Book of Luke, Picture of Dorian Gray, and the Hounds of the Baskervilles in my Sophmore year. The book selection went downhill from there.

mharmon1: Ah I gotcha Carissa haha. Yeah, i'll read a book, but now when I'm halfway through or so, if I'm not liking it, I tend to put it down now. Just don't have the time I used to :(

LorieD: I did my senior thesis on Dystopian worlds -- Brave New World, 1984, Handmaid's Tale, Clockwork Orange

mharmon1: Brave New World was a fantastic book, but I can never read it again. It scarred me a bit in a way 1984 did not

seyfert: Same! No reason to waste time on a crappy book, but I've had good luck on the ones I've picked out lately

mharmon1: I got in trouble my freshman year because I wrote that ahem, and I quote: "Romeo and Juliet were humanistic failures because of their entitled attitudes of nobility. Furthermore, they lacked empathy" But the part that got me in trouble is I ended it with: "Finally, the fact that they lacked any reasonable amount of commen sense and succumbed to being narsiccistic young adults made this a pointless play."
