Session: 20200117c
- Well the group makes it to Loosend just fine thanks to clicking off time. Wonderful, isn't it? But we do need to be here to tie up some loose ends (in Loosend, get it?) before we keep going.
- We start by running into Hoffman. What's he doing there? A premonition. Also they were taking a lot longer than one expects to take for a trip that was originally only supposed to go to Loosend. Anyways, where's Miranda?
- Branwyn tells Hoffman what happened, and that while Miranda is alive and still herself, she does look, well, a little teensy bit different.
- Hoffman runs off to the temple where Miranda is to try to figure out the next step in their relationship. Hopefully you read that link, but for now Miranda will remain in Loosend for some soul searching.*
- While Hoffman and Miranda talk, Branwyn goes to return the shell. We may not have returned with the daughter of the priestess (whoops, can't speak for everyone, but I forgot about her), we did get back the shell. Geas gone, Branwyn is safe from losing spells, and gets to keep her revived husband. Success!
- The acolytes who accompanied us? Gerard is returned, but Drayven (Holly to the temple) has asked for leave to find himself again while traveling with the Dragonslayers. With both parties accepting, Drayven takes his leave from the temple.
- We meet back up with Hoffman, who tries to give Branwyn back the ring, but she refuses and asks that he gives it time and thinks on it. He reluctantly agrees, and will move ever forward as he considers their relationship as he travels back.
- Before they leave, they're stopped by a random barkeep. They're going south, she heard? She quits her job on the spot and joins the group. Penny's the name, by the way. Every heard Dragon Fen is the place for farmers to go now and that's what she wants to do. Also known as Carissa needs a temporary blank slate character to play while we travel. And yes, she is of the Borden line of Bovine Valley so expect cow puns, jokes, and cheese.
- Everyone now settled, we start down The Dry Road with an aim for the intersection with Crouse Pass Road of the various roads of Drillian. But now that we're officially in Drillian, we are greeted by the toll collectors wearing the colors of the Queen. Our wagon of doom will be tolled per axle so we owe them 2 gp. No, if we had brought a sled, we wouldn't have escaped the toll, either. Thanks for finding out for us, random gnome.
- Of course, we're only going off their statements. While 2 gp is nothing, not everyone agrees that we should pay it and be on our way. After telling the toll taker he should pay us, and not getting the response he wants, Drayven charges the poor man and kills him on the spot. This... does not please everyone.
- Branwyn does what she can to take control of the situation, ends up paying 8 gp and 2 gems more than the initial toll to give to the dead man's family, and tries to hurry the group along before more of a scene is caused. Whether or not that'll be enough in the end, who knows? But we are allowed to continue on our way.
- Rather than push on for the night, the group makes camp in an area probably safe from any spring flooding. Everyone is in a very pensive mood after the toll incident. Penny hands out award-winning cheese, Kenna puts Dray at the top of her spit list officially moving Ilero down a spot, and watches are decided.
- First watch is, to no surprise, Branwyn and Drayven. They talk about failure, their viewpoints on the incident, consequences to ones actions, and that perhaps a calmer approach is better warranted now that we're not in a life and death situation.
- Second watch is Indigo and Penny. They talk of the Mist, how to tell if a cow is happy and seeing them run, Jilly, and what Indigo plans to do without his lady friend (who was more than a friend). Penny gives him his own block of cheese since an empty stomach only makes one sadder, and promises to let him come watch her future cow herd run and play when she gets them. But no chickens because... well, chickens.
- Third watch is Ilero and Kenna. I mean, Kenna never did understand why Ilero murdered an orc (done with the best intentions to prevent Shi from becoming a murderer, instead). Kenna still wonders if there was a better option while Ilero tries to figure out why everyone thinks he's a killer when he's only ever once stabbed someone in the back (MacBeth, yes?) once since joining the Dragonslayers. The good news is the conversation did not end with him getting spit on.
- We're two days from The Mist and manage to at least making until evening. What encounter that was stated before rolling awaits us? Who knows. Something devious? Something gypsy? A happy cow stampeded? Could be anything. Guess we'll find out!
*Dear all, by my accounts, we're now up to four (five??) different characters doing some major soul searching in an incredibly short amount of real and game time. Can we, you know, go back to just attending parties and minor shenanigans? While nice for character development, I am a little concerned about who might be next. How about we at least wait a year real-time before someone else has a life changing occurrence? Thanks.
Quotes of the Night
[Lisa] we have the wagon from hell and horses
[Master] and you could have the ..... dun dun dun... the wagon with you........
[Master] grins
[Lisa] beat you
[Master] so
[Master] everyone is good with the wagon of doom?
Ilero (TMO)] (I don't remember why it's the wagon of doom)
[JohnA] would rather regular waggon, but eh
[Master] have you ever had a wagon on your adventure that did not cause trouble TMO?
Ilero (TMO)] (ah, so not something about this wagon in particular)
[Lisa] bugbear wagon mishaps, skull church wagon mishaps - just 2
[Lisa] wagons are evil
SpringyDew grimly nods
[Ryan] A wagon murdered my first wife
Indigo (Lisa) waves his arms around "And that's everybody! You'll get to know them"
Indigo (Lisa) calls out "Everybody? This is Penny! She's travelling to Dragon Fen"
Penny (Carissa) yells back into the bar behind her, "HEY! SHANE! YEAH, THIS IS MY TWO WEEK'S NOTICE TWO WEEKS LATE! I'M OUTTA HERE!!"
Indigo (Lisa) ride, ride, ride
Ilero (TMO)] ridity ridity ridity
[JohnA] walk, stagger, jog
Session: 20200124c
- You know what's nice after a long, endless night of death, death, and more death? Winding down with some RRRP: rest, relaxation, and role playing (not to be confused with AARP).
- We start with the evening encounter where we're given a choice of talking encounter or whatever BOB has up his sleeve encounter.
- Did someone say something about cheese? We are reminded that Tiberius is not quite... bright. It's impressive what he does pick up on, but that doesn't mean he's the sharpest tool in the shed or the brightest bulb in the box. He's a few cards short of a deck, has only one oar in the water, a burger short of a combo meal, if you get my drift? The driveway doesn't quite reach the road, if you know what I'm saying. Another brain would be lonely. No grain in the silo. Eats soup with a fork. The wind is blowing, but nothing is moving! Or, more fitting, the cheese slid off his cracker.
- ANYWAYS (that was fun), he doesn't know how to make cheese, and doesn't understand Penny's explanation, and then makes some questionable recommendations of what type of milk to use to make cheese. It's an interesting conversation, to say the least.
- ... the umbrella is up but there is no rain. A nice cage, but no bird. In a battle of wits, he's unarmed (probably why he prefers arm wrestling).
- We make camp for the night in an uneventful spot with some eventful conversation.
- Hoffman, Branwyn, and Shurkural are up first with the latter two filling in the first on what he missed during their trip. They do talk about Indigo and Penelope, dragons as pets, and Hoffman's future plans as well as Miranda.
- Kenna, Indigo, and Ilero are up next. They talk about making sausage with cheese, history forgetting the adventure part of the story, and learning to write. With Indigo's help, Kenna composes a letter home to her uncle.
- Third shift is Penny and Tiberius, and poor insomniac Shurkural. They talk about what campaigns are, the children, who really owns a farmer's herd (or flock), and again, how important milk is to making cheese (All volume, no content). You can't make cheese without milk, Tiberius. Shur also shows off her sword, they talk a bit about religion, and also how important second breakfast is to certain party members.
- We leave off having just entered the Mist. The good news is Shur, Ilero, and Penny rolled successful checks. Indigo and Branwyn? Not so much., but they apparently are used to it, and so with modifiers, are also fine! Well, actually they all have to deal with sickness no matter, but it's very short-lived.
- What about everyone else? Guess what you're doing first thing on Friday? See you then!
Quotes of the Night
Hoffman (JohnA)] Wait so if we come across a female Beaver, we have to keep it for Penny and Shi?
[Kenna Westfoot (SpringyDew)] hm beaver milk cheese?
[Indigo (Lisa)] Yuck!
[Penny (Carissa)] Er, I ain't sure how to milk a beaver.
Ilero (TMO)] Small bucket
[Kenna Westfoot (SpringyDew)] the ninnies must be tiny!
Hoffman (JohnA)] So did Shi get any pets?
Shurkural (TMO)] I think she wanted the dragon.
Hoffman (JohnA)] AS A PET?
[Penny (Carissa)] (if only...)
Shurkural (TMO)] Yeah, but the kind of spells she can still do are yours. The priests might have a different view on it.
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Priests!
Branwyn (Lisa) sigh
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Sorry. People always seem to make things more complicated than they have to be.
Shurkural (TMO)] 'Xactly. You've never been a huge fan of priests, so her losing that ain't much to you.
[Branwyn (Lisa)] It's not priests. It's all the silly things that they attach to their magic which isn't really a whole lot different than any other magic.
Indigo (Lisa) sticks the quill on his tongue
[Indigo (Lisa)] Ouch!
Indigo (Lisa) sticks it in the inkpot
[Kenna Westfoot (SpringyDew)] oh no!
[JohnA] on no is right, now it's a blood contract
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] Have you ever been out on campaign Penny?
[Penny (Carissa)] A campaign? Well I ain't sure what a campaign is.
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] when you go out to fight
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] to take something from someone
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] or defend yourself from someone trying to take it
[Penny (Carissa)] You mean stealin'? That's against the law there, sir.
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] if you have the bigger stronger army
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] it is not stealing
[Lord Tiberius (Master)] it is winning
[Penny (Carissa)] Still ain't changing the law. The law's the law.
[Penny (Carissa)] That's just bullyin' with some stealin'.
Session: 20200131c
- We keep on walkin' and talkin' as we travel because that involves less death, and that way I don't need to advert my ears or eyes. That's a good thing, right? RIGHT? You know who you are.
- Anyways, we do start off with some Mist Sickness Rolls for Hoffman and Skarp. The first failed, but the second succeeded. I believe we're still missing (misting?) a few other rolls for other characters (including you Mr. Eats Soup With A Fork), but at the moment, we're not really combating things, so it's all good, right?
- Some OOC talk about places we may end up visiting, finding Skarp a dwarven lady friend (we know one with a peg leg...), and trying to clarify Skull Church plans.
- We jump back in RRRP with Penny thinking Ilero has a creamery, Hoffman thinking she might be an apprentice for the thief guild, and just wondering where she'll end up once in Dragon Fen. There's also some talk about what makes a happy cow and making cheese (which is not a fungus) until we're interrupt by a girl dressed like a gypsy.
- Do we want to camp with her? She says her clan could use some extra protection over the night. Well, where's the rest of her clan? They're coming, Wisewoman Carol isn't too far away.
- On the chance you are unaware, Carol is neither a gem nor a flower nor an animal (Carolina Chickadee, maybe, but that's a different story). Nor do they have leaders named George while the Wisewoman is aware. So yeah, about that camping...
- Clearly an ambush as someone with really, really bad aim shoots a dart at Branwyn. And misses by 10 ft. So what now?
- Well they don't try again. We take the girl, named Jenny, ... hostage? Rescue her? I'm not sure the morality here or which word to use. Point being, she gets tied up and tossed in the wagon. Her pals don't come rescue her. This makes her sad. Why don't you care, Billy?
- We find out Jenny is a run away from one of the farms. She's not a fan of all the hoeing and raking just to watch beans grow. Cute Billy and his three brothers convinced her to run away for the life of thievery. She's only twelve, but who knew what other plans they'd have had for her when she got older.
- So what'll we do with her? Too dang early to know. We decide we'll let her decide once we get to Dragon Fen. Orphanage, milkmaid, working at the inn, recruit for the guild, adoption, fisherman, adventurer. There's options for her, except for robbing people. She's not allowed to do that anymore.
- We find empty tents, but Jenny's pals never materialize. So we decide to make camp, set watches and see how the night plays out.
- As they settle down, there is still debates about punishing a child and if we should just toss her to the wolves. Indigo reminds them the wolves are in Dragon Fen anyways which confuses Penny. She doesn't know about the rest of them, but she ain't about to be trustin' no wolves.
- We get to first watch with Skarp and Talwin. We're given a bit more backstory on both of them from Talwin's life growing up with mercenaries in the Badlands to Skarp talking about Dwarven life and his father (da). They do discuss some of the differences between how humans and dwarves handle various things and how even that is varied.
- Next watch is Hoffman and Ilero. Talk is about orphans, plans with the church, and what it's like having a crew to be responsible for and how you can (or cannot) get used to it.
- We move to third watch with Penny and Shurkural. Not at all because we're running out of time with these characters, but yeah, probably partly because of that. They talk some about Penny's dreams and plans for her dairy farm, she finds out she's traveling with the Marquessa (whoops) and how the group knows the Queen (double whoops). Better off finding out now when she get those jitters out. Cheese puns follow. As well as girl talk that ends before Shur's dirty humor gets out of control. We end with a little more about Shur's life and her lack of understanding that Vilmar is actually DEEPER in the Mists. Pretty sure no sun there.
- We're about 5 miles from Mosskin Hall then 10 miles from the intersection of Hill Road then 48 miles from Redfern Lake (and 962 miles from Oz, according to TMO).
- ...for those of you can understand directions without seeing a map (not me). In short, we're making progress. Yay! See you next week!
Quotes of the Night
[Carissa] An evening of fun is much preferred to an evening of death.
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] Why not both?
[Carissa] Too much death lately. I'm good skipping it.
[Carissa] It gets... deathly boring.
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] BOB, if you could get something to flash across the screen when someone is about to die, it would give Carissa a chance to avert her eyes
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] WARNING: DEATH MAY BE IMMINENT.
[Master] How about something like this?
[Master] Combat has begun!
[Master] ROUND: 0
[Master] Combat has finished.
[Carissa] DEATH!!
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] ARGHLGHLUG
[Carissa] How do avert my ears?
[Master] cotton
[Master] beeswax
[Carissa] Of course, of course. Let me grab some out of the beehive.
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] You could create a scrappy kobold creature that seeks to undermine Branwyn, also played by yourself
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] That way, no matter how it goes, you lose
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] The ultimate roleplaying challenge. Do you drink the wine that you just poisoned thirty minutes ago?
[Carissa] And did you fake yourself out as you expected it?
[Lisa] would be a battle of wits
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] Lisa: You chose wrong.
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] Lisa: No, you only think I chose wrong. That's why it was so funny
Hoffman (JohnA)] Well are w going to decide where she stays or give her the coice, where de we need the most cheese?
Indigo (Lisa) points to his belly and laughs
Hoffman (JohnA)] Oh wait, Branwyn
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Yes?
Hoffman (JohnA)] you can make more cows
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Cows?
Hoffman (JohnA)] yes
[Branwyn (Lisa)] No
Hoffman (JohnA)] that is what we were just talking about
Hoffman (JohnA)] Don't you have that spell to turn frogs into cows?
[Branwyn (Lisa)] It is unnatural and the newly made cow would be like a frog in a cow's body
Hoffman (JohnA)] but tthe milk would be cow milk?
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Not the happy cows that Penny striives for
Hoffman (JohnA)] We also protect ourselves
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] I... I am not sure about Upland customs. Do we kill her, even though she is a child?
Hoffman (JohnA)] Turn her into a cow
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] If I see a girl worth her beard, I will let you know.
Ilero (TMO)] You mean bread?
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] Do women grow bread on their faces above ground?
Ilero (TMO)] Oh, you mean beard for real?
Skarphedin (Ryan) stares blankly, nods, then heads to bed.
Ilero (TMO)] Hye t'ought you just misspoke or somet'ing wit' accent.
Hoffman (JohnA)] Wat is it like having a whole crew to be responible for?
[Ilero]] (TMO) exhales harshly. "Hard. So many t'ings keep track of. Lucky hye got some good help keep everyt'ing running. Too much for just me keep eye on.
Hoffman (JohnA)] You really have to trust someone, that must take time
[Ilero]] (TMO) wags his hand uncertainly. "T'at take time. Big difference between mistake, incompetence, and treachery, but sometimes all look t'e same."
[Master] everyone be sure to go on message boards and tell them how exiciting it is to be a Dragonslayer and debate farming of beans versus cows
Session: 20200007c
- After attempting to summon various individuals, and only succeeding twice with the spell, we start off the game heading to the Mosskins as per Hoffman's request.
- Hoffman and Branwyn talk some about family, their plans for Skull Church, and what it means to be (or not to be, that is the question) simple.
- A guard meets them to welcome them to Mosskin Hall. He's glad to see Countess Branwyn Branadarus the Mysterious, Prince Sauscha, the elves... wait no elves? How disappointing. Oh, but there's Admiral Indigo who saved him from pirates on Chandler Cowles years ago, remember? Not him, specifically, he doesn't expect that, but remember how you saved those sailors? That was very brave of him.
- Anyways, he heard you were out in the Wildlands? Which, as you know, means anything outside of The Mist, apparently, including Loosend? (The elves rolled their eyes in the distance. For reference, it's way way north of that, further than Glamis, past Bucklebury, but anyways...). Introductions done, he'll escort you.... A DWARF??
- No dwarf, actually. Just an illusion cast by Branwyn. She has very impressive magical capabilities. Or so Ilero convinces the Guard which doesn't help Skarp at all convince the Guard he is, in fact, a real dwarf. Clearly it's just Branwyn able to make him speak and eat and such, as if he were a real living thing.
- Anyways, you know that guard? Baron Mosskin in disguise (from my interpretation based on his comment to Indigo, thanking him again for saving him). He's glad to hear Branwyn really was who the Queen has talked of, and he's happy to get formal introductions of the party.
- We hear some about his father fighting in the earlier civil war. He's still confused on how Skarp can really be a dwarf when we all know they've died out. Not like he hatched out of a rock. Or did he?
- Introduction with Tiberius again points out that his mother may not be, ah, alive anymore, but his sister is the... well, it doesn't matter, does it?
- Off to get cleaned up before dinner you go! Provided the servant girl Galinda can keep her cool around Branwyn who may or may not turn her into a newt as she fears.
- Ilero asks Galinda if she knows any jokes, she repeats a bad one about a cow and crow (yes crows can talk), and Penny jumps in at the sound of cows asking if there are some she can see? Lots! Galinda and Penny get super excited, then try to remain calm and dignified, lets the Countness get settled first, and THEN eventually run out to the barn, taking Jenny and the curious dwarf along with them, to see the two cows.
- While hanging out with the cows, Galinda asks Penny about Branwyn, talks about the stories she's heard about her and Indigo, and tries to comprehend that Skarp is, indeed, a real dwarf (or a butterfly dreaming he's a dwarf). Of course, Skarp didn't know beardless women were a real thing and yet here we are. They also talk briefly about proper cow diets, proper affection to give to cows, and proper milking procedures. And which of these could be applied to the Countess, as well.
- Dinner involved the adult's table and the kid's table also known as those with an important last name (or a last name at all) and/or title, and the others.
- Besides Baron Mosskin and his father, Count Drake of the River Drakes is also there (with one less leg), but does not interact with the group. Too many people with the same name.
- Baron Mosskin tells Branwyn about how Dragon Fen has been spoken of over the past season and how it's viewed as her trying hard to be a strong power. Not necessarily her intent, but whether not he believes her, he'll be watching her progress out in the wilderness (sigh).
- Baron Mosskin rides with them to the edge of the estate in the morning with a few more words (he's quite talkative, innit he?). Maybe he'll visit with his father one day. Okay, bye!
- Ride, ride, ride. We mention towns and geography and questionably named towns. They pass plenty of pasture and farms, and as they're close to Redfern Lake, decide to camp rather than find an inn at a town.
- This means watches and time for Branwyn to speak to her carefully crafted Illusion, er, I mean Skarp. She apologizes for that, and they talk some about people as individuals not a group. They also speak about death and coming back from it, how it all began for Branwyn, diversity, what it is to lead people, and seeing a Dwarven Kingdom. Of course, none of that sentimental talk happened, nope. Cough.
- Indigo and Tiberius take second watch, but those dice are feeling lonely, so let's roll them! Two confused badgers sneak up on them in the middle of the night, but barely do any harm (especially with those crits). Good thing Shi isn't here so we can eat badger steak in the morning! (Awww...). Oh, and yes, sounds like Tiberius is getting soft as he complains about camping. Hmm.
- This leaves us at third watch. It's late, most have logged off by now, and we're debating what to do. Roll the dice? Let the boys help with another watch? Let Penny do watch by herself where she very likely would start talking to herself?
- Rather than make a decision, we leave it here to be decided in two weeks. Because no game this coming week. Log on all you want, we just won't be playing. See you in two weeks!
BOB notes: Yes it was Baron Mosskin that Indigo saved a few years ago, it was an obtuse hint. The young Baron often performs the tasks of lower people in society so he knows what they are thinking, such as a sailor or a town guard. Yes we pick up on third watch. You are 'close' to Redfern Lake only in that you have already traveled hundreds of miles. It will be where you rest for the night next if all goes well. You travel 24 miles per day and Redfern Lake is 22 miles from where you currently are.
Quotes of the Night
[Guard (Master)] a dwarf... a dwarf!!!! They do not exist
Ilero (TMO)] Nope. T'is is illusion cast by Branwyn.
[Guard (Master)] just
[Guard (Master)] WOW
[Guard (Master)] OH
[Guard (Master)] I understand
[Guard (Master)] yes there is no such thing as dwarves
Skarphedin (Ryan) glances around.
[Guard (Master)] yes it is very impressive
[Guard (Master)] Thank you Countess
Skarphedin (Ryan) stares at the guard, blinking slowly.
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] Burn my beard...
[Baron Mosskin (Master)] (any last questions for the Baron before you farther down the road?)
Hoffman (JohnA)] (you mean Father down the road?)
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] (Who is John going to father?)
[Kenna Westfoot (Spring)] (well if he knew that ahead of time he would be some kind of psychic)
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] Dwarven architecture lasts millennia. Human architecture... not so much.
[Penny (Carissa)] Well, ours last us a few generations if'n yer good at upkeeping.
[Penny (Carissa)] I, uh, ain't sure that's a millennia though.
[Skarphedin (Ryan)] A millennia is... hmm... 5-7 generations.
[Penny (Carissa)] Oh! Well ain't that bad! We have an old barn that's been in the family for 4 generations now! Ain't long 'til we hit 5!
Skarphedin (Ryan) blinks in surprise. "Huh... not bad. Maybe I underestimated human buildings."
Penny (Carissa) smiles and nods (and clearly doesn't know math or dwarven lifespans).
Session: 20200221c
- A week break and we're back at it starting with third watch. Who's up? Kenna and Hoffman save us from hearing Penny talk to herself through the night.
- Talk about dead badgers, confusing nicknames (Shi versus She, Shur versus Sure, and thank goodness Wu isn't with us right now), last names and if they're worth having, and how to properly cook a badger. See links in chat if you're interested.
- Hoffman wants to continue on his diplomatic mission and opts to visit the Medipops as it's on the way. They also come across two real gypsies nearby, but we'll get to them in a minute.
- First are those who opt for the medipops. Hoffman, Branwyn, Talwin, Kenna, Shur, and Tiberius all decide to visit the grand marble palace. Here they get confused by the younger Toybin (Medipop, so different, but everyone looks similar and is named similar so nothing is confusing at all). There's some talk about Dragon Fen, treasonous talk about chopping down Valoris Wood, the upcoming venture into the Wastes, the possibility that Queen Kristen Medipop haunts the ruins, and Grandma Thorina wanting to visit. They say hello to her, too (and accidentally call her fat), and exchange pleasantries including non-specifics about how we're going to deal with Quellcon.
- Back to the gypsies, Sad(dle) and Brown, who are traveling alone as their Wisewoman died. You know, Wisewoman Thistle? Before that was Wisewoman Sunflower, but we don't believe they mean THE Wisewoman Sunflower? Anyways, they're off to link up with new family in Billstone. So are there any connections? Do you really believe Bob's world is full of coincidences? We don't know as they end up going a separate way from us without prying, but maybe we'll meet up again one day in the future and find out. Oh, and yes, Jenny disappears with them.
- The big moment of the night happens at Old Man Millers, by which I mean the introduction of TMO's new character for when Ilero disappears into a well-earned retirement. It is certainly one better read on your own, but in summary...
- Old Man Miller acts oddly which we find out is due to the presence of The Order of Brotherhood. You know the ones. Vampire hunters and all that jazz? Oh don't worry, TMO will fill you in with all that lore in the future. Anyways...
- While Old Man Miller's palm is fine, he is on edge. A Brother Sundown ends up coming to greet them, but they put him off until they at least finish dinner. Always better to talk with someone after a good meal, anyways.
- Talwin goes to fetch the main brother so he can talk to Branwyn, where we're more formally introduced to Brother Brer Necholas (beard, eyepatch, hood, shadows). Relation to Brother Sundown currently unknown. Anyways, they're here to offer assistance! ... what?
- He's responding to a call from long ago, and while they might be too late to help with whatever that earlier problem was, perhaps they'll help with Skull Church? Well, let's talk about the appropriate methods of doing that...
- I mean, he IS a paladin. They have very strong feelings about things that are evil including using evil to fight evil. You know, like that time Branwyn used an evil dagger to fight evil which left a mark. No, not on her hand, but on her soul (says the paladin). That doesn't mean he feels a need to rid the world of Branwyn, but maybe he can stop her from being exposed to more evil? You know, in exchange for asking some questions from time to time? Odd, but... okay?
- Some fun banter (or lecturing, depending how you see it), but Branwyn accepts to the conditions. Brother Brer leaves them to their meal and we leave there for the night.
- Oh and we can now call Ilero the Black Hand of Tiera. Unless he's already slipped away.
- Lots of questions, lots of potentials, lots of things the future may bring. Anyways, see you on Friday!
Quotes of the Night
[Carissa] Except I'm trying to remember two weeks ago what we did.... just dine and dash?
[Kenna Westfoot (Spring)] (OOC I haven't the first clue)
[Master] You know Carissa, there is this place on the website where people write Summaries
[Master] You could look there sometime
[Carissa] Really? I probably should! Good idea.
Hoffman (JohnA)] Pen... na Penny, what is your last name?
[Penny (Carissa)] Borden! Of the Borden Family! We're known in the cattle world.
[Kenna Westfoot (Spring)] (I’ll say you are!)
[Kenna Westfoot (Spring)] (even humans on other planes have heard of the Bordens!)
[Thorina Medipop (Master)] You have grown
Branwyn (Lisa) smiles "Having two children will do that to woman"
Thorina Medipop (Master) pauses
Thorina Medipop (Master) LAUGHS
[Shurkural]] (TMO) looks confused.
Kenna Westfoot (Spring) whispers to Shur ""that lady had 15 children
[Shurkural]] (TMO) whispers back, "So did Branwyn just call her fat?"
Hoffman (JohnA)] Lady Branwyn has ... oh no no, not That forest
Hoffman (JohnA)] We are considering going the other way, further into the Wastes
Hoffman (JohnA)] Bring life, not take it
Session: 20200228c
- First thing first, if you haven't been on Discord, please go now. New map creation is in progress and any comments on it are appreciated (but may or may not be too late).
- Anyhow, we start back at Old Man Miller's and Hoffman needing a drink. You know who doesn't think he really needs that? Sundown. His belief that there are other ways and how one should keep themselves cleans results in him turning ale into... water? That's a thing??
- Although Hoffman has a good point. Did he just pay extra for water since it was ale? Was he cheated out of more than a stiff drink? Kind of rude, if so.
- Meanwhile, Old Man Miller asks Branwyn if she'll be around more, says he heard from Jane that Jistille is getting more visitors, asks where Jilly is, and mentions to Indigo that he's looking for help as his cook left.
- You know who used to work a bar in Loosend? Penny. If you get her a cow or two to start (and they'll need a barn to live in), Penny would be more than happy to help out at the tavern. Miller might not be convinced on the cheese ordeal, but he has a cool cellar and with the recommendation of the others, hires Penny.
- And yes, Howard and Johan have a new job: help build a barn! Let's hope they can do it with magic because I feel like they'll have to build it one way or another...
- Morning they say goodbye to Penny and start the final leg of the return trip to Dragon Fen. As a note, anyone else notice Brer has a dog?? Too bad we don't currently have someone who can (accurately) speak to it...
- Hoffman and Sundown speak briefly about women (and Shur about men). Not sure that's a topic Hoffman cares to continue on considering Miranda is still in Loosend.
- Good time to get to know our new companions better, right? Brer asks how the Queen is doing, Sundown explains his name which confuses Indigo (which is fair, seeing the sun go down on final time on a creature that lives in the night is slightly confusing), and Indigo tries to get a better handle on their motives.
- Which is to say, does Brer plan to kill Branwyn? Well, does Branwyn plan to become a vampire? If not, then why worry? Now that said, Brer and Sundown clarify they plan to kill each other if one of them turns into a vampire (or possibly undead). And then Sundown will take his own life on his vow. Wait, no. Brer says no, don't do that last part, thanks.
- Point being they take promises seriously, and so they can't promise they won't kill Branwyn because while they hope that day may never come, they can't guarantee it.
- Also we do talk some about Ilero being the Black Hand of Tiera the Shieldman. Of course, Brer isn't a theological expert, but he does suspect there is a special relation there. You know, kind of like Branwyn recieving Kipytutto's blessing (lucky her). Anyways, Indigo points out that she isn't evil and Brer says there was a misunderstanding.
- This philosophical conversation is interrupted by Jilly. Anyone else forget how much Jilly talks? Because she loves to talk. A lot.
- Jilly is pregnant. Treble met another otter named Choir and had babies (is everyone having babies right now???). Babies comes to greet them. Babies, babies everywhere. Oy.
- Anyways, yes Brer and Sundown can stay the Inn for free, no charge.
- Morning means breakfast, meetings, and a mad teenager.
- By which I mean Thistle yells at Ilero for breaking his promise of stopping Shi from going home. Not that he could really stop her, but what does a teenager know or care? Branwyn comes to his rescue with the letter, Thistle doesn't know how to feel about it, but in the end, there isn't much anyone can do.
- That said, she's not sure she's happy to have them trade Shi for two weirdos. Brer makes his case for why he's not a weirdo, but Sundown, well...
- Breakfast means Nevin clarify that the Brotherhood has no official Royal Sanction and so are therefore at the mercy of Branwyn, a warning message assumed to be from Quellcon, the Bolpels offering to marry Demi to their daughter (future propositions must be made in person), Nevin declaring that Jilly will be having a girl and asking Branwyn to marry them (and Indigo and Shur be the godparents), Red Cloak sending a message offering his help only if he gets to take over Skull Church (nope), a note that Gnomes will be visiting in the morning to formalize an agreement to protect their village, and Ilero wanting to say something. But what?
- That will wait until next week (as well as 29 potions to identify), but now that we're back, we'll officially (re)begin Third Time Is Tradition. Yes, that is a link to those summaries. Yes, that means you should look there next week. Yes, I am wrapping this up.
- See you next Friday! But again, won't be on this page!
