[Shi'Nynze (Carissa)] (Yeah we're in grave peril right now)

I'm not sure what'll happen to the next three summaries. Guest summaries? Late ones? Non-existent? Either way, marking this point.

Update: Carissa will definitely not be doing summaries for the next three weeks. She will possibly not be doing them retroactively, either. So please do not look for anything by me (but if someone else did them...).

Session: 20180615c

I’d like to start this summary by telling you that we all logged in and got off to a running start, easing on down the road to the wedding. I’d like to. Really. But things don’t always work out the way you plan. Speaking of planning, that was the topic in various forms for a good chunk of the session.

But planning isn’t planning without other important issues coming to the floor. What exactly do you call your henchman when your henchman isn’t a man? Henchperson? Henchbeing? Hencher? Henchy? Henchit? And many others. No conclusive decision yet.

Can we go yet? Not until we decide what to do with the skiffs, what with having only Kenna, Snezana and Neith’s priest spells and Ilero’s camouflage skill. What to do, what to do. No, we can’t fit 6 skiffs in the room scroll. Even with a hypotenuse. Hypotenuse? Uh oh, were starting to get into dangerous math territory.

Consensus? Bury them. Who’s got the shovel? No one, but who needs a shovel when we have magic where Kenna can make mud and let them sink into the earth. So, if a skiff is 16 x 5 ft. and Kenna’s spell covers a 10 sq. ft. area times her 7th level, how many times does Kenna need to cast in order to bury all six skiffs? More math. Lisa has this covered … except she’s multiplying by 5 instead of six because 10 minus 4 clearly equals 5 so she just multiplies all the numbers on the page by 5. Let’s not let Lisa do math again. Can we stack the skiffs at a depth of 4 ft? And how does that change the equation?

But turning mud into solid ground brings the focus back to building plans and even more math is discussed.

In the end, the skiffs get buried, Brother Foto does some healing, and Miranda finds that she too attracted a few leeches. Miranda is able to heal herself, but isn’t quite able to help the wolves.

So we’re ready to go? Not a chance! We have a rowboat, two walking wounded and 4 chests. How much can Hugh carry? More math is required. After even more discussion, all chests go in skiff with Hoffman and Hugh pulling. Kel tosses Mara over his shoulder and carries her and no one takes care of our other walking wounded, Princess Anastacia. Neith casts an Easy March spell on some of our short-legged friends. Kenna, Brother Foto, and QuiFon get a movement of 9 for 7 days, but at a penalty of -1 to attacks because they have to do a magic jog to keep up. Note: Neith can cancel the spell when we get to the Ghostwood Estates. Lisa picked who should get the effect of the spell since it wasn't fully noted in chat. We are only as fast as our slowest people and if they can get to 9 then we should do that and not burden anyone else with a -1 penalty. We can discuss if you like.

We finally begin to walk and make it to our evening campsite by the road. Miranda does more healing before she lies down to take a Nap.

First Watch: Branwyn, Branadarus, and Hugh. Hugh sees an old man coming up the road. The old man doesn’t stop and Hugh doesn’t say hello. As the man comes around the bend, he runs into Branwyn. Cryptic conversation ensues where Branwyn tells him they are going to Ghostwood and the man says that “Stanley” puts on a good show. Stanley? You mean Count Drake. Are you sure you don’t want to rest and camp with us? No, thanks for the warning about all the hill giants out there and have a good night … Marquessa. Who is this old man really? Branwyn wonders if he is a vampire friend of Count Drake’s? Nah… couldn’t be.

Second Watch: Ilero, Hoffman and Indigo. Ilero takes a perch in a tree with an axe (his Count Drake signature axe maybe). Hoffman and Indigo discuss secrets. Indigo has no secrets. Indigo thinks Branwyn is stupid for having secrets but that doesn’t mean he’s going to spill the beans about Tiberius’ vampire mom. It feels like Hoffman has a secret? But it stays a secret. Hoffman thinks Branwyn hates him or at least is not happy with him so Miranda is in charge of talking with Branwyn. Indigo thinks Hoffman should talk to her anyway. They finish the watch discussing they need to do everything that their women want them to as the ladies tighten their grip on their men.

Third Watch. Shur, Shi, and Kel. Kel assures Shi he did not enjoy carrying Mara for 5 miles, and the possible ways that Mara could explode. You know. Seeing real sunlight. Wand of Wonder. Things like that. The pair agree that they are courting, Kel doesn’t need to hear about Shi’s past suitors, and relationships are more than just being about protection, right? Of course right.

Dawn breaks and Brother Foto and Miranda heal the masses. Next week we should speeding along towards Count Stanley’s castle.

Quotes of the Night:

[MarioCS] ah whohench
[Lisa] god bless you

[MarioCS] if the skiff is 16x5 and the room is 10x10x10, if we hypotenuse them in upper left to far lower right, they could fit
[TMO] pretty sure a 16' skiff won't fit in a 10x10x10 room, even diagonally. And is the door to the room 10x10?
[MarioCS] details, TMO those are just details!
[TMO] if you bring me into a math discussion, the details are gonna get brought

[Spring] dammit I have to math
[TMO] 5 castings will hold 4 skiffs, with space for 1.5' gaps
[Spring] wait what?
[Spring] that does not sound right
[Master] TMO does math for a living

[Branwyn (Lisa)] It's late to be walking these roads alone
[Old man (Master)] A good man is never alone
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Oh so you are a priest
[Old man (Master)] Do you know any good priests?
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Quite a few actually

[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) just so you know, I didn’t enjoy it. Carrying her, I mean
[Shi'Nynze (Carissa)] (E) She certainly did.
[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) can someone be too positive?
[Shi'Nynze (Carissa)] (E) Definitely.
[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) all the glee she has, and she's never even seen the sun!
[Shi'Nynze (Carissa)] (E) Wonder if the sun will burn it away?
[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) imagine the day she does! She will literally explode!

[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) He hasn’t done a thing to protect you, ever
[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) can his instruments protect you?
[Shi'Nynze (Carissa)] (E) You...know there is more to a relationship than watching out for each other, yes?
[Kel (MarioCS)] (E) of course I do, you’re all I think about

Session: 20180622c

This is my first, and quite possibly last, attempt at creating a weekly summary. I can certainly appreciate the time and effort it takes to create these wrap-ups, and the significance of telling enough of the story to get the point across, without telling too much and causing boredom and tediousness, all in all capturing the humor of the characters interactions, and the flavor of the session. I have done none of that. PLEASE feel free to correct, amend, modify, and enhance each and every part. Thanks -Mario

The night starts off scholastically, with maths, city planning, programming, and the ever-present pressure to move forward, or else...

The party struggles to get moving, to meet the deadline imposed by Carissa (um, where is she, anyway??). We manage to move the obligatory 100 feet, and continue onward.

Indigo and Ilero are leading the pack when Ilero hears the cries for help. Indigo, Ilero and Kel investigate, and find a large hole in the ground, where the young girl's cries grow louder. Ilero dips the lighted clasp held by his Hand into the hole, looking for the young child. But, to everyone's surprise (no one's surprise), the sounds were really made by a Leucrotta, which bounds from the hole. Indigo recognized it as the 'Thing that killed Llythandril!!" This meant certain death for the evil beast, which it met in super quick fashion. Kel checked its pockets, but found nothing. Neith negated the darkness of the hole, which prompted Ilero to climb down and investigate, which paid off tremendously: 3000gp, 600 pp, 2 potions, 5 gems, a magical broad sword, a magical shield, a magical medallion, and six objets d'art: a diadem (crown/headband), Art Boots, a sceptre, a set of pinchers, a chair. Yes, a chair, well kept, undamaged. While the theme of a Throne Room ransack does hold, we question who would carry a chair into the woods?

But where are we to put a fabulous loot like this? Leave it in the original hole?, dig another hole and put it there?, drag it with us on the rowboat? We decide to put the diadem, medallion, sceptre, and pincers in the loot chest (not Mara's); the sword, shield, and chair will ride in the rowboat. The coin are shoveled back into the hole, covered with camouflage and a dead Leucrotta.

After realizing BOB has us boomeranging (the farther we walk, the farther we are from Ghostwood), we are just 25 miles away. We'll be there in no time...

Branadarus wears the art boots, fit for a prince, and fears they will be ruined by smashed otter. Indigo suggests Tyberius speak with Treble's new rescue mom, Branwyn, about the fate of the furry one. The fact that Branwyn bought a cute pink collar for Treble pretty much means she's here to stay. If only Treble could behave as well as Shi's menagerie, he laments. Sigh. Parent Jealousy is not a pretty look on Ty.

The pair have little time to think about the otter, as a large flying lizard hovers just a few feet away. The airborne beast manages to hit Indigo, but was it with its tail? Isn't its tail poisonous? Ilero shudders. Baranadarus quickly retaliates, and the rest of the team catch up. Brother Foto blinds the foe, while the team again quickly defeats it. Kel checks the beast's pockets, to no avail, while Shur is hindered tracking a flying lizard. Ilero seemed to be shaken by the encounter, for sure reliving his last meeting with a wyvern, and runs off to collect his thoughts. The party almost starts off without him, but he comes back strong to lead the way.

Indigo again leads the pack, this time with Princess Anastacia Eustace. The crew figure out if Brother Foto can age people (no), and guess their age (yes, outside of the Mist). QuiFon keeps Mercy entertained while the grownups decide who is mist sick, who needs to roll again, and how much bonus to add to the roll. So who is still sick? Shi, and who else?

Ilero is so good at sneaking he walks right past a fire-breathing eight-headed hydra perched on a rocky crag. (He's good, real good!!) Its breath attack manages to get only Shur, our expert tracker, who didn’t see an eight-headed fire-breathing Hydra perched on a rocky crag. The party rolls Shur around in the dirt, puts her out, and is ready for retaliation. As the fire-breathing eight-headed hydra is perched on a rocky crag, it cannot move to attack the group, who have a clear path past the beast and onto safety. So let's go!

Or not. Hoffman launches a full frontal charge, axes swinging, negating all possibility of ranged magical offensive spells. He is quickly joined by Shur, out for revenge, Bastard Sword swinging for massive critical hits (a d200 will do that for you). Indigo cops a squat in the 'chair in the rowboat' for ringside seats. Kel, Hugh, and Marisu all manage missile fire, while Neith rains down a storm of lightning (close, but no cigar). Branadarus, still worried about Treble, finishes off the last head, and the beast was no more. Kel checks its pockets (nope) and determines this isn't the Hydra's lair.

Howard chats with Anastacia about his past, and how he has managed to stay alive so long working for Branwyn. He says he didn't, and cites the Anhkeg. She builds Howard's confidence, commenting on his magic prowess, just as a male gypsy crosses their path. The gypsy knows the Princess, which troubles her. He warns Anastacia to double up on the watches tonight. So, in return for this useful bit of advice, Anastacia manipulates Howard to fire magic missiles at the messenger gypsy man. Makes sense, right? Needless to say, the male gypsy is not too content, and the three argue about the semantics of yielding and whatnot. The gypsy scampers off into the woods, stopping, dropping, and rolling along the way. Howard, so proud of his deed, rushes to tell Branwyn, who is not pleased at all. Bran has a very respectful earful for the Princess, who channels Jenn and DARVO's the accusations.

We decide to end the night here, and prepare for nightfall. Will we double our guards? Will we hide the rowboat? Who gets to sleep in the chair? And will Shur still have super massive critical hits each roll? Tune in next week to see!

Quotes of the Night:

[Guy] once you start speaking elvish you can’t change back

[Gypsy Male (Master)] I never challenged, how can I yield?
[Howard Plum (Lisa)] You were warning under false pretenses!

Session: 20180629c

Hmmm, despite my warning that last week would probably be my last time writing the weekly summary, here I am again. If you managed to stomach the previous entry, allow me to try again… -Mario

PLEASE feel free to format this entry and last week's as well. Despite my best efforts, it's totally bleh. Thanks! - Mario

Welcome back! We start this week deciding whether Lisa needs a map, extolling the virtues of a properly cooked goat, and the feasibility of eating alligator tail, frog legs, cow brain, sea cucumber, bear, and crawdads. Seriously, how many duck tongues would you need to eat to be full?

I volunteered to do another summary in our usual author's (Carissa) absence, since TMO's plumber is under-qualified. And I will also attempt to go full circle, and also provide quotes. Read on at your own risk.

Heeding the warning of the male gypsy, the party increases the number of watchers each shift.

Bran and Ann review the Guard's list of names. Some names have X's and some have checks. The two deduce that potential dinner guests of the Bolpels are checked, while those not to be invited are X'ed. A quick summary shows Anastacia is X'ed, Jared is also X'ed, and the D'Ambreyvilles are hit and miss checked. The list must be old, comments Anastacia, as Bran and the party are not mentioned. The Doeskins are on the checked list, but all those in print happen to be dead (so no reunion at the wedding for Marisu (sorry, is that in bad taste??))
The ladies discuss Branwyn's marriage to Tyberius, and Bran's mother-in-law and her hospitality, or lack thereof. Bran's most memorable moment? "The end of the night was very nice". Hubba Hubba. Being the Hero of a kingdom doesn't prevent veiled threats, if said threats are made outside of said kingdom. Bran recalls seeing Count Drake at the Coronation, the first time since she stabbed him. Ann recounts chasing children for bullying Toybin, and her glower was enough to put them in their place. (read: stay clear of Anastacia's gaze if you should ever piss her off...)
The ladies decide setting fire to the nearby bushes would reveal Jared's hiding place, but would also lead enemies to the campsite like moths to a flame (which we still don't know why this happens.) All this chatting DOES lead enemies over: a column of zombies marching 2 by 2 marching down the road, performing night maneuvers. Before they get a chance to notice, Branwyn lets loose with a pent-up fireball, decimating every troop to ashes, leaving nothing but char, and Snee with a mouth agape. Before the flame can go out, Bran and Ann are already planning how to get the families of the region united again. Good luck.
Indigo notices the high quality, for an ogre, of the weapons, while Kel notices Indigo doesn't look so well. The Halfling puffs up, remembering Penelope's inspiring words that he looks dangerous. After all, he did scare away two ogres! Oh, the curse of being super strong, but physically unimposing, both Kel and Indigo being sufferers. Let them think what they want, we know better. Ilero looks on, trying to save face from his fall. The Hand gives the thumbs up sign as it helps to drag away ogres.
Mara wakes up cheerful (surprise!) and starts a conversation with Branwyn, but ends up speaking with Howard. Awkward. She finally finds Bran, leaving Howard confused, and reiterates her mission of keeping Branwyn healthy. Mara thanks Bran for the founding her church, and how it changed Mara's life for the better. Branwyn confesses to not owning a holy symbol which causes Mara to scamper off. Bran laments with her husband about the fascination with priests and their conversion tactics. Tyberius points out Barn's magnetic personality, and all priests just want to be near her. They continue, making plans about what to do with the rowboat full of loot, and who is an ally or not. Ty suggests just keep going directly to the wedding, while Bran thinks the Count may have important information they can use. Besides, those not going to the wedding need somewhere to stay.
Indigo gets healed by Mara, whether he was ready for it or not. She offers to play a tune on her recorder, which puts the pep back into Indigo's step (but makes Ilero shake his head: so much for stealthy movement). She also distances herself from Kel, for no apparent reason. Oh, Hi Carissa! Mara sings instead of playing the recorder, and everyone joins in (not).
Marisu chats up Mara, about sore feet and travelling, and Zephyr comes up. Marisu tells the sad tale of her horse being taken by bugbear slavers, which leads to Marisu's deep thoughts of her next actions, and if acting wrong is better than not acting. Mara plays a perky song, while Marisu uses the time to speak to Indigo. She asks if Indigo can get more direct, straight-forward facts from Anastacia about the deaths of her family. The two conspire to get Anastacia talking during dessert, or while they spar. Marisu opts for the former, citing her arms should remain attached to her body (good choice!)
Indigo and Ilero jump to the forefront, while Mara beats a hasty retreat behind Kel. Anastacia and Tyberius join the front ranks, and mayhem ensues. Ilero commands the Hand to try for a knockout punch. Shur and Shi'Nynze fire a barrage of arrows, while Branwyn lets loose with Manyjaws. Even Johan the Apprentice gets into the sorcery. But the surprise of the battle is little Treble gnawing away at foul-tasting ghoul flesh (He otter know better (wait, Treble is a female? ... (insert your own line here)))! The ghouls are not without their strengths, scoring a few critical hits themselves. All in all, the ghouls fall to the far superior combat unit, but at the price of the Princess being left paralyzed. Pockets are checked, and the ghouls are gathered in a pile, awaiting Branwyn's itchy trigger finger of Fireball, with Shi and Mara ready with water spells, just in case.

The night ends before the flame is sparked, so tune in next week, when we burn a heap of undead, plan overnight watches, tie Jared to a tree so he doesn't run off during his shift, ask how it feels to be another year older, and also how nice it is to play from home after traveling for a few weeks. Quotes to follow.

[Indigo (Lisa)] You can have it every second day of the week
[Kel (MarioCS)] I do hope it gets to settle in Orchard House
Kel (MarioCS) puzzled
[Indigo (Lisa)] There's a lot of people that might want to sit in that chair
[Kel (MarioCS)] once a week? can I take Tiberius’s turn too? we don’t have to tell him when it’s his turn...
[Indigo (Lisa)] Everybody will have to wait their turn
Indigo (Lisa) laughs
[Indigo (Lisa)] That's not fair!

But seriously, thank you! I think we all enjoy reading the perspective of others. Please keep that in mind next time I'm sent off to who-knows-where! - Carissa

After the side adventure of Bebbux

Session: 2018 11 02c

No more snails, no more Caverns of Doom, no more deceit, death and destruction. On to Wedding Crashers!

Ehhh, who are we kidding? The Wedding Crashers scenery may be more lavish than a cave full of stirges, but there is plenty of deceit, death and potential destruction for both story arcs.

Note: BOB has inserted a lot of detailed descriptions of the castle, its grounds, and the rooms we have explored so far. It would take up too much space to repeat here, but you can find them easily in the formatted chat as they are larger paragraphs.

Also Note: We had a guest player named Ryan come in, who hopefully will be coming back this week. Ryan made it into the quotes of the night, so he is off to a great start.

As we wake and start on our way to the castle, Petit-Singe asks for assurances that Branwyn does not have any priests with her. Ever the diplomat, she sidesteps the question with a slight insult against priests in general, to which Petit-Singe promptly escalates. But as a result, she doesn’t have to answer the question directly and away we go.

Things we discover about the missing mage Etienne:

  • Etienne has been missing since before Petit-Singe was born. (Petit-Singe is covered in white hair so he is likely an older fellow)
  • Dame Camille believes Etienne is alive but others don’t or don’t think he needs to be saved.
  • He was powerful and eccentric. A patient teacher, but impatient with people trying to manipulate him. Stubborn and hard-headed.
  • He ruled the domain?
  • Loved magical research which caused the failure of his marriage to Catharine
  • Only Camille and Genevieve knew he was mischievous and had a warped sense of humor

The d'Ambreville castle is about 3-4 times the size of the Doeskin castle and is quite opulent. Marisu and Branwyn briefly discuss magic that could have helped create this exquisite stonework.

But we’re here at last and meet Richard d'Ambreville, who as Spring aptly notes is somewhat of a dick throughout everyone’s introduction. Dame Camille is a hot mess what with her makeup mis-applied all over her face, saying she knows Branwyn, and generally rambling about nothing. She takes hold of Branwyn and leads the group out of the foyer and to her personal chambers.

Dame Camille’s room reveals a table with a crystal ball and a deck of prophesying cards. Hmmm… what good are those here? No answer. (Of course)

Once in her own suite, Camille instantly becomes rational and purposeful that Branwyn and her friends are to find her son, Etienne. What she tells us here about him is in the bullets above.

Camille tells us that her husband died fighting with Farthorn in the Wildlands. How old are these people?? The current year is 345 SKR. Farthorn in the Wildlands happened in ??? SKR. We are given free access to roam the castle. Camille will inform the golems. Our status will be as “paid companions,” a step above a servant. Titles don’t matter in this here castle. At least not ours anyway. Note: throughout the hallways we have seen golems and human guards scattered about.

Camille requests that we do not kill any of her sister’s children unless we have to and confesses that Richard, a.k.a. Dick, would kill her if he thought she had regained her memory.

Settled in their guest chambers, the ladies talk and Branwyn changes into her dress for the reception (much to Hugh’s chagrin, as he was not expecting to find himself standing in the girls’ changing room).

Ariette a maid enters, warning us to leave because the whole family is mad and no one is safe. Lovely! Time for the dance.

Magdalene whisks Hugh onto the dancefloor to tell him that something is terribly wrong, and she needs to see him in her chambers in half an hour.

Hugh whisks Branwyn onto the dancefloor for advice. Hugh decides to attend with Marisu as backup and carrying his chest of silver in case anyone is asking why a strange man is visiting the bride to be on the eve of her wedding.

Hugh and Marisu arrive at the meeting to find Magdalene dead, encased in amber with a scroll lying at her feet. The description says the scroll was slipped under the door. Not sure how PCs would know that. Hugh notices the scroll is cursed. He looks and looks and *poof!* the parchment turns blank. Marisu picks up the scroll and the two head back to the dance to inform their friends.

Anastacia says we need to make a scene about discovering the body. Branwyn insists that the scroll must be put back as it is the murder weapon and who wants to be caught with the murder weapon?

But everyone heads up to Magdalene to take a peek at the room and participate in the announcement. What we learn at the crime scene:

  • The golems have not set off any alarms. So if someone delivered the scroll, they were not considered an intruder.
  • There is a trap door in the ceiling. It’s locked by a regular lock and a magic lock at 11th level.

Although Marisu’s acting skills are a little off this evening, Snezana’s are in top form and the two sound the alarm. Of course, the one who comes running is Richard. He is not happy. We are ordered to our rooms to await questioning and he loudly calls for …. A priest! In this priesty hating town? Sure, priests are fine when it’s convenient now aren’t they? Magdalene is to be raised from the dead, so this won’t be the last we’ll see of her.

Branwyn tries to get everyone’s stories straight and then we all go to sleep. In the dead of night we awaken. (Does this mean we don’t have full spells in the morning?) Branwyn goes to the window to see the two moons and a sky filled with stars. After picking her jaw up off the floor, she calls the others to see that we can see moonlight. The Mist is gone.

Maybe it’s just a dream. Were we all just dreaming of no Mist? How did we all wake up at 2:15 in the morning for no reason? Will the Mist be there in the morning? Will someone Play Misty for Me? See you on Friday.

Quotes of the Night:

[Richard d'Ambreville (Master)] Sacrificing one’s ideals for any goal, no matter how noble, negates the worth of that goal
[Snezana (Spring)] (you trying to say something, pal?)
[Snezana (Spring)] (I sense some slights and digs)
Marisu (TMO)] (if politicking is does properly, then every sentence should contain those)

[Snezana (Spring)] (Richard is kind of a Dick)

[Camille d'Ambreville (Master)] What He Says: "The only difference between fools and family is that you feel guilty after throwing fireballs at fools."

[Branwyn (Lisa)] Why in the world would we kill anyone?
Marisu (TMO)] (looks at our track history)

[Camille d'Ambreville (Master)] Richard would kill me if he could
[Camille d'Ambreville (Master)] if he thought I had regained my memory
[Snezana (Spring)] (I KNEW he was a Dick)

[Branwyn (Lisa)] (thank god it's just a corpse and not some rescue mission!)
Marisu (TMO)] (yeah, just a dead body)
[Branwyn (Lisa)] (dead we can work with)

Marisu (TMO)] (you left that off! ;) )

Session: 20181109c

Summary by Mario

Sounds played a large role in this week’s session. Sadly not Fleetwood Mac songs, but sound effects, mood tunes, and spoken words from some of the NPCs. With the ambience set, we join our wedding party in the Chateau, …

The party wakes in the middle of the upstairs hallway, full clothes and equipped. Not odd. Guards line the hallways. The crew repeatedly hears the command “Concentrate!” They investigate the sounds, and find them coming from a classroom just off the hall. A small boy sits at a desk while an older man orders him to focus. The large window offers a view of the front lawn, which looks remarkably different. The antiquated-ly dressed man tells the boy he cannot go play, but must stay and study, as he has great talent. The father leaves as the party observes the lawn; it is as bright as day, but…it is still night. Both moons hang unobscured in the sky against a field of stars. The Mist has Lifted!

In the confusion, a Hill Giant approaches the boy and starts to beat him with a Jenn-o-Nine Tails! Shocked, the party intercede, and combat begins. The Hill Giant, who is wearing the clothes of the Father but in Giant size, continues to strike the child, while the party tries non-violence to stop him. Marisu tries to intimidate, Hugh orders the Giant to stop in Jotun, Snee tries to Dispel Magic, Branwyn makes herself a physical barrier between the two strangers. In retort, the Giant clubs Hugh. So much for negotiations… Battle ensues; the Giant is slowly wearing down. Branwyn asks him to yield. So, of course, Anastacia (remember her?) unleashes a bevy of sword hits, doing in the Giant. He slumps to the ground, And disappears. Along with the boy. So no treasure?

Hugh is patched up while Bran and Anastacia have words. The crew try to figure out if the Mist is truly gone, when the sound of hoofsteps emanates through the halls. They quickly peer out, to see the hindquarters of a mounted horse turn the corner, ridden by a women in robes. They quickly follow the sounds to the open courtyard, where they gaze upon a Unicorn! Wow! Dreams DO come true!

The woman has dismounted, tall, fair blonde in a willowy gold gown. She looks almost ethereal, and funny, so does the unicorn … HEY! The fair maiden looks over the crew, and declares them the Chosen Ones. They ask her (Veronique, it turns out) questions about unicorns, the magic in the chateau, the boy (called Etienne). True to NPC form for this world, she answers in generics and riddles. Surprised?

Veronique soliloquies a lengthy spiel about lots, very well summed up my Michael:

  • The dreams are the past of whatshisfaces memory.
  • He (Etienne) never experienced his childhood like his siblings because his father emphasized studying
  • The "Ogre" (Let’s be serious it was a giant) was only the memories of his father, not the actual father and/or a real giant. Just a memorialized representation.
  • Something about us not being what she expected and us being more than she hoped for.
  • We should help whathisfaces journey in dreamland
  • If we don't help whatshisfaces journey, dark dark forces will be working against him. With or without our intervention
  • So basically make sure he "lives up to his dream potential" to make him become the man he should have been. Or something.

Thanks Michael! Your quick note-taking skills helped out immensely with knowing what she said. However, no matter, as the crew immediately wakes in the chateau, in their respective rooms. A quick look out the window reveals the Mist in full form. So much for miracles, but it was “dreamy” while it lasted! The crew gets dressed, patches itself up, but alas, no sleep last night, so no spells. The team discusses the previous night, the Dream. Hugh isn’t so sure, as his pain is real. To be sure, he Pokes Mara, asking if she is real. And she is. 100 percent.

Branwyn points out that Camille's husband died fighting Farthorn in the Wildlands (but that was ages ago), they all wear old clothes, Camille’s son died before Petit-Singe was born, and Etienne once ruled this domain. Anastacia offers that Richard is Camille’s son, and appears about 40-ish. But what if he were a vampire? The crew wracks their brains to remember if anyone has heard of Richard or Etienne. Maybe Kel, or better Teb? Quite possibly. If only they were here…

Richard, like the Dick he is, barges in and swoops the entire cast to the mandatory family breakfast in the Dining Room. Richard announces that Magdalene has been Raised, so she lives, and has been moved to his chambers. He also accuses Catherine of the murder (is it really murder still, since she’s alive?) and has her placed under House Arrest. She protests her innocence (prisons are full of innocent peeps, right?)

(We break to let Lisa decide if evacuations from the California fires are necessary; she drives on like a champion! Flames be damned!)

At the breakfast, lots of food and spirits (Ha!) Count Drake is present, sans feather stole, along with Indigo’s “pal”, Orthinmadrigal the Amazing. The Count asks about Ilero and Indigo, while Branwyn introduces the two new ‘servants” as noblefolk.

Marisu see Anastacia getting restless (read: fingering her dagger) while speaking with the Bolpel Princess. Would that be awkward to happen here, today? Bloodshed? Instead, Anastacia tries to discuss a “proposal” with Count Drake, but Marisu wisely intervenes. Anastacia reveals to Branwyn her plan to make the Bolpels respectful again by marrying the Princess to Count Drake, since he’s wifeless now and all. Shame for that big ol’ castle to sit almost vacant.

Branwyn thinks poorly of the plan, so Anastacia casually asks Marisu if she has “anyone left” to marry the Princess. How Marisu doesn’t immediately drown her in the punch bowl is beyond me. Instead, in a calm rage, Marisu asks Ana is she left anyone alive. Optical daggers fly.

With the rudeness meter off the charts, Branwyn makes her way to Camille, who is busy spilling tea on her gown. Bran mentions the “strangest Dream” she had, of unicorns and stars, giants, and moons. And a little boy. Camille, true to her form, spouts prose of Wonderlands, fitting for this scenario, only to be followed by lyrics to 70’s Top 40 hits. She is nothing if not loopy.

And the night ends…

The below information was graciously provided by Michael, as he feverishly transcripted Veronique's monologue, all the while being distracted by a unicorn:

Alright, I know its a bit late in the week but I've just now started to come out of the illness haze. I barely remember working the past couple of days, let alone much of our game. BUT! I promised to do post of the convo transcription with glowy lady.

I remember Hugh getting the snot beat out of him by a dream giant. Oh, and some wonderful audio files that I will never again attempt to transcribe because despite listening to it spaz out my speakers three times, I still didn't get it all. The primary transcription was needed from glowy lady. So here goes for a quick summary because I was a sucker and promised to do a brief transcribe. Pardon my rambling.

To give a highly brief transcription summary of that wonderful conversation:
*The dreams are the past of whatshisfaces memory.

Oh and don't die. That would suck.

Critically important about this conversation:

She answers no real questions She has a pretty unicorn. That's about it. Mysteries within mysteries.

After we wake up, items we have used are gone. We don't rest at all it seems and thus our spells are on the fritz The mist is gone in Dreamland as it is a memory

So, the Mist is somewhat a recent event??? That's interesting.

Perhaps our spells will work. Dimension door anyone? I wonder how that would affect reality in the Dreamland. When we "wake" would we be in the area we "moved" to? Or would we "Wake" and be back at the estate.

OR, if we dimension doored, or did an auger spell, would the spell focus on the past due to memory? Or seep into the real world and be reflected there? This seems like a time-break loop that could do a lot. Anyone want to go back Dreamland, Assasinate the bad queen's past rivals, and jump to a different future? Oh my head hurts.

Anyhoo, I'll let someone else do the rest of the summary. I just had to post the transcription.

Quotes of the Night:

[Branwyn (Lisa)] (can you set your dream on fire?)
[Mara (MarioHome)] (I’ve had plenty crash and burn, so)

[Branwyn (Lisa)] We have vampires by day and ghosts by night.

[Mara (MarioHome)] I would have loved to pet it
[Mara (MarioHome)] alas, it was only a dream

[Carissa] Wedding
[Carissa] Not mine :P
[Branwyn (Lisa)] (how appropriate)
[Carissa] Hahaha didn't even think of that. Guess so!
[Mara (MarioHome)] (like a play, but you get no refunds regardless how bad the reviews are)
[Carissa] They aren't ghosts or vamps though that I'm aware of...
[Master] grins
[Lisa] hope not!

Session: 20181116c

Ryan joins us tonight in the body of the nearest playable NPC, 15 year old Earl Brandon Cowles, who was dragged to the wedding by his aunt Beatrice Cowles (rank not mentioned) to find a wife. As a note, the rank of Earl is roughly equivalent to Count (and the feminine version of Earl in English is Countess; a real feminine version of Earl never developed).

The group discusses dream worlds and adventures, only to be interrupted by Earl Cowles, who had been shamelessly eavesdropping. Mara distracts him with her assets for a bit until Marisu contrives a sudden desire to be introduced to his aunt for ... reasons. Totally valid reasons, I'm sure!

The rest of the group discuss the dream world events and what to do for a bit, then Branwyn heads off with Mara to try and find Etienne's laboratory and library. Branwyn asks a guard for directions to the magical library and gets pointed to the door right in front of her. Sadly, this is only the 'regular' library, and only contains hundreds upon hundreds of books from floor to ceiling in massive bookcases. They do find a Manual of Iron Golems, which would allow her to create and control a single iron golem. Mara finds a book on how to create poisons from a particular breed of swamp mushrooms. Neither of these books being of immediate use, Branwyn goes back to the guard and grills him, gaining only the gnowledge that Etienne's old rooms now belong to young Master Henri (being only 255 years old qualifying him as the youngest).

The hour chimes go off, signalling only an hour remaining to finish dressing for the wedding.

At noon, the wedding happens in the temple, quick and short, presided over by Simon, a priest, in this priest-hating household. Shortly after the ceremony concludes, Simon's vestments burst into flame. As Simon gruesomely burns to death and we hear his screams via sound file played over our speakers, the party is suddenly transported into another dream...

... They are all suddenly on a battlefield, mounted upon armored chargers, bearing plate armor, shield, sword, and lance. Etienne, at age 17, leads a score knights, including Our Heroes. A soldier rides up to Etienne, telling him his father's forces are surrounded, and the reinforcements are being pushed back. Etienne immediately organizes a counter-attack to relieve his father's troops. Hugh is caught up immediately in the scenario, acting as if he were a fully vested warrior in Etienne's retinue, pausing in confusion only when he catches sight of Branwyn and the others. He doesn't pause long and immediately rides out to assist Etienne, followed closely by Marisu, an experienced rider. Branwyn and Mara are sorely out of sorts with this scenario and follow much further back, Branwyn trying to figure out how to cast a spell while encumbered with plate mail armor. (Michael tries to get Branwyn into the spirit of the encounter by comparing her armored steed to a car in LA traffic, but she's not buying it)

Sadly, Etienne is not in time, and his father has fallen by the time he reaches him, the PCs only moments behind. As Etienne cradles his father's dying body on the ground, one of his generals rides up and tries to convince Etienne to execute all the prisoners of war and civilians in retribution for his father's death. Hugh protests against this course of behavior, urging Etienne to stay the course of righteousness, even going so far as to strike General Hazelthorn for talking back to him (note, in case it's important later, Hazelthorn has red hair). Hazelthorn recognizes the party as being real, from the Chateau, and declares that they've made an enemy before riding off.

Etienne thanks Hugh for his advice and gives him a heavy golden ring mounted with a perfect sapphire. Scene fades...

... and the party is back in the temple in their same positions as before, with a greasy smear on the floor where Simon fell, and Hugh still has the ring. He recognizes it as a House D'Ambreville ring, few were made and even fewer given out, and swears to someday return it. Petit-Singe surprises everyone and passes on the message that Dame Camille would like to meet them in the morning for breakfast, the rest of the wedding party is at the reception in another room, regardless of the grisly death of a family member. He also politely suggests the group retire to their rooms, so that questions of where they were for the last several hours wouldn't be inconveniently asked of them.

Once again in our chambers, there is a knock on the door, and young Earl Cowles comes a-visiting to make sure the group, and Marisu, are all right. An hour spent in Marisu's company seems to have shifted his attentions from Mara's bounty. Shortly after, there is another knock on the door, and Count Drake comes in at Branwyn's invitation. He makes a special note that she has invited him in. this is phrased in a very ominous way

The conversation quickly gets around to Count Drake's wife Seewick and he uses curious verb tenses when talking about her, using past and present forms simutaneously. A vampire thing, maybe? Anyways, he confesses that after a few years, she wanted to leave (Branwyn mentions that swanmays rarely want to stay in any one place for long), and how could he allow that? What woman would want to leave him anyways? Their only disagreement was over a pod of shapechangers in his forest (snailmen, mayhaps?).

There's a small pause as Anastacia once again seizes the opportunity to try and end the civil war through a sudden marriage between two unwilling participants. sigh Because of course there's no better time for it than now.

Drake states that Richard is a vampire, and a lot of the conflict between him and his family is over that and that the rest of his family became werewolves (this very definitely gets Anastacia's full attention). Branwyn then attempts to discover the identity of the old man on the road who talked to her about Drake, but is unsuccessful. The conversation turns to Etienne, who Drake says was instrumental in creating the Mist, 100 years ago. But... if it was only 100 years ago, why can no one remember him? That's well within recent memory. Drake throws more confusing time references into the conversation, just to muddle everything even more, and claims that Branwyn was is will be a great mage (there's that verb tense stuff again).

Now that everyone's synapses are thoroughly cudgeled, the next topic of discussion of who gets to write up the summary, with TMO being the lucky recipient, who will forever treasure the opportunity. Well, for at least 3 minutes or so, until he goes to sleep. zzzzzzz...

Quotes of the Night:

Hoffman (JohnAA)] you want me to hit him?
[guard #3 (Master)] (I needed to do math to make sure how old)
Branwyn (Lisa) smiles "perhaps not. It looks like he is trying to think."
Hoffman (JohnAA)] I guess the threat alone was enough
[Branwyn (Lisa)] (and yes that is what I was thinking)

[Master] It might be a driver issue whenI run the troubleshooter it says to restart the computer
[Mara (MarioHome)] (this time, by request!)
[Master] as long as you can hear is good
Marisu (TMO)] (troubleshooter always says that)
[Mara (MarioHome)] (what?)
[Young Earl Brandon Cowles (Ryan)] (As a troubleshooter, that... isn't inaccurate)

[Count Drake (Master)] Etienne was instrumental in creating The Mist
Marisu (TMO)] (TMO deletes the question he was about to ask)
[Branwyn (Lisa)] He was? Was he a vampire too?
Marisu (TMO)] (mmm... shoe leather. tasty)
[Count Drake (Master)] Not that I am aware of
[Branwyn (Lisa)] Hmmm... I think I shall be having some very interesting dreams tonight
Marisu (TMO)] Count, if I may ask, how old *is* the Mist? I've heard different rumors and stories.
[Count Drake (Master)] a century
[Count Drake (Master)] or forever
[Young Earl Brandon Cowles (Ryan)] Forever?
[Young Earl Brandon Cowles (Ryan)] What do you mean?
[Count Drake (Master)] Have you ever heard of a time without The Mist young Earl Cowles?
Young Earl Brandon Cowles (Ryan) frowns in thought. "No..."
[Count Drake (Master)] So perhaps The Mist has always been

Session: 20181228c

[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] Of course The Mist is there, has it taken over the world yet?
Marisu (TMO)] No sir. The southern part of Drillian, mostly.
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] Only Drillian?
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] Did we run out of dwarves?
[Thistle (Carissa)] Dwarves? Those don't exist.
Marisu (TMO)] It is still spreading, slowly.
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] We needed something strong, steady long lasting
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] to feed it
[Thistle (Carissa)] Feed what?
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] The Mist

  1. So yes, it sounds suspiciously like dark ritual sacrifice of dwarves is what keeps The Mist growing. Is there slight room for misinterpretation? Yes. Maybe the dwarves are just labor to move something else to feed the Mist, but uh, yeah, none of us really believe that.
  2. And regarding the Mist and some interesting tidbits:

[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] The Mist can be circumvented
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] all powerful magics can
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] I spent time with Ozimandus
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] he created a sanctuary for himself
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] it could only be pierced by true love
[Etienne d’Ambrevilles (Master)] The Mist is only vulnerable to the loss of its feeding

  1. Please note the link in the conversation regarding Ozimandus. Also yes, Etienne is displeased vampires are taking credit for his great achievement.

Quotes of the Night:

[TMO] have a party, get drunk, sleep in the garden
[TMO] sounds like a frat party

[Master] the moons are bright, the stars shine
[Mara (MarioHome)] (deep in Texas?)
[Thistle (Carissa)] (clap clap clap clap!)

[Master] (new argument for the Oxford Comma: At Milwaukee’s cat cafe, you can eat, drink and pet cats. )
[Hugh D'Ambray (mharm-15549)] I like " I hereby grant my estate to Bill, John and Cathy
Marisu (TMO)] "eats shoots and leaves"
[Snezana (Spring)] (traveler meets Nelson Mandela, poacher and porn star)

Branwyn (Lisa) curtseys "Branwyn the Mysterious"
[Thistle (Carissa)] The Bright!
[Mara (MarioHome)] The contessa!
[Hugh D'Ambray (mharm-15549)] And M'lady

[Thistle (Carissa)] I ran away but grandma might be mad if I stay away TOO long, but if I got her a barge so some of the clan can leave...
