Charges

A Charge is a term for anything that appears on a shield. Ordinaries are a sub-classification of charges themselves. If a charge is placed on an ordinary or another charge it is depicted upright. When a charge is placed on a bend, it is positioned at the same angle as the bend. A field that is decorated by a regular pattern of charges is known as a semy of or poudry of that charge.

A Charge could be any type of flora or fauna that is either common or magical in nature. Inanimate objects are commonly used as well. Humans as a full figure are very rarely used, although representations of individual body parts are used. Beasts, birds and insects each have several descriptors including:
